Paris CNN —Simone Biles is once again the Olympic gold medalist in individual all-around gymnastics after winning one of the most dramatic finals of these Paris Olympics. Biles held off a spirited challenge from brilliant Brazilian Rebeca Andrade, who once again won silver and Biles’ teammate Suni Lee took the bronze. Her artistry and rhythm were infectious and, until her final floor exercise penalty, she turned in an incredibly solid, well-rounded performance. At the World Championships last year, Andrade took gold in the vault, while Biles took silver. The winners of the last three individual all-around gymnastics gold medals took in the moment to soak in the cheers.

Biles, the 2016 all-around gold medalist in Rio de Janeiro, led the U.S. women to their first team gold since Brazil on Tuesday. She led the individual all-around competition after qualifying and enters as a heavy favorite to capture her sixth gold medal. McIntosh, 17, won her first Olympic gold medal Monday in the grueling women’s 400-meter individual medley. Marchand, 22, has won gold in all three of his events in Paris, with the 200-meter individual medley remaining.

Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade could be Biles’ biggest competition in Thursday’s all-around finals – and has gone head-to-head with the American before. At the World Championships last year, Andrade took gold in the vault, while Biles took silver. This victory made Andrade the first athlete to surpass Biles on the vault in that competition since 2015. Andrade also won the world all-around gold medal in 2022. This apparatus can make a difference between who wins gold and who wins silver.

CNN —The head coach and players of Team USA’s women’s basketball endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid on Wednesday. Harris took over the Democratic nomination earlier this month after President Joe Biden decided to end his reelection bid and endorse his No. The players on Team USA – and the WNBA in general –have been far more willing to engage in political statements than some of their other professional sports peers. Harris had visited the men’s basketball team during their training camp ahead of the Games. “If she’s on the ticket winning the election, like it’s, it’s a big, big deal to say the least and she represents the Bay Area,” Curry said last week.

Sven Hoppe/picture alliance/Getty ImagesThe women’s and men’s Olympic triathlons will go ahead on Wednesday in the French capital, Paris 2024 organizers and World Triathlon announced. Poor water quality levels in the River Seine had led to the cancellation of numerous training swims and forced the postponement of the men’s triathlon, which was scheduled for Tuesday. About $1.5 billion (1.4 billion Euros) was spent trying to clean up the river ahead of the Games. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo swam in the river earlier this month to display her confidence in the river’s water quality.

Alev Kelter helped her team win bronze in rugby sevens — the US's first Olympic medal in the sport. But that wasn't the case for Alev Kelter, an American rugby sevens player who scored on Tuesday to help Team USA win its first medal in the sport. She'd never even touched a rugby ball, but she thought ice hockey may have given her the right mentality for rugby. In 2016, just two years after picking up a rugby ball, Kelter was among the first rugby sevens players to compete in the Olympics. Sevens features seven-person teams playing seven-minute halves instead of the traditional 15-player teams playing 40-minute halves.

Biles is now the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast in history with eight Olympic medals. And she says it wouldn't have been possible without consistent mental health support. Three years ago, she withdrew from the team gymnastics competition at the postponed 2020 Tokyo Olympics citing mental health concerns. "I have to focus on my mental health," Biles said after pulling out of the Olympics in 2021. On Tuesday, the Team USA gymnastics team won gold in the Olympic women’s team final, and Biles made history as a result.

South Sudan’s men’s basketball team defeated Puerto Rico 90-79 in Paris on Sunday in its first ever appearance at the Games, but the result meant more than just picking up two points in Group C. For South Sudan Basketball Federation President Luol Deng, it was the culmination of everything that he and the team had worked so hard to achieve. “When the national anthem was sung, you know, it just gave me goosebumps, and I realized that this was bigger than basketball,” Deng told CNN Sport’s Amanda Davies. He was born in Wau, in what is now South Sudan, before the country’s independence. South Sudan officially gained independence from Sudan in 2011 following a referendum, making it the world’s newest widely-recognized state. South Sudan players celebrate after defeating Puerto Rico.

Roland Garros, Paris CNN —Coco Gauff looked to be cruising against Donna Vekić in her third-round singles match at the Paris Olympics. The most fraught moment of the match came midway through the second set when Gauff was reduced to tears during a heated exchange with chair umpire Jaume Campistol. A line call on Gauff’s baseline was initially deemed out, but Campistol overruled the decision and handed Vekić a crucial break point. The supervisor also came onto the court and the ensuing debate lasted five minutes, with Gauff wiping tears away from her eyes. The ball was flying a little bit, but after that, I got in rhythm and it was pretty good.”The dispute with the umpire in the second set, Gauff later explained, didn’t alter the result of the match.

Afterward, Gauff, who was the flagbearer for Team USA alongside LeBron James, said that she “felt that they called it before I hit.
