arena that is home to the Maple Leafs was jammed and jumping like a mosh pit on a damp, cold — even for Canadian springtime — Saturday night. Far south in Tampa, Fla., center John Tavares scored in overtime against the Lightning to end an excruciating stretch of playoff futility for the Maple Leafs. Back in Toronto, near and far from the outdoor crowd watching the game on a ginormous screen, car horns bleated across this longtime playoff wasteland. The mob, some members of it screaming, some crying, some setting off fireworks, some suddenly shirtless, throbbed like a nightclub throng. A few dramatic celebrators climbed lamp posts, hanging by one hand and filming the scenes with the other.
CNN —When the Toronto Maple Leafs last won a playoff series, George W. Bush was the US President, Lance Armstrong was winning Tour de France titles and The Facebook had just been launched. A lot has happened since 2004, and it has been quite the wait for the Maple Leafs. Before Saturday, the Maple Leafs had lost six straight first-round series, in addition to a qualifying-round loss in 2020 during the NHL bubble. In 2004, the Maple Leafs defeated the Ottawa Senators in seven games to advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals. The Maple Leafs will face the winner of Game 7 between the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers Sunday.

Carlos Tavares, Chief Executive Officer of Stellantis, poses during a presentation at the New York International Auto Show, in Manhattan, New York City, April 5, 2023. DETROIT – Stellantis is offering voluntary buyouts to more than 33,500 U.S. salaried and hourly employees, as the global automaker attempts to cut costs and headcount. The buyouts will be offered to 31,000 hourly employees with at least one year of employment and 2,500 salaried non-union U.S. employees who have 15 or more years with the company, the automaker said Wednesday. General Motors earlier this year offered buyouts to a majority of its salaried employees following performance-related layoffs. Stellantis earlier this year idled a Jeep plant in Illinois, placing about 1,200 workers on indefinite layoffs.
Stellantis is offering thousands of employees buyout packages, The Wall Street Journal reported. The move comes weeks after crosstown rival General Motors offered employees buyouts. The salaried employees getting the offers have 15 or more years of experience, according to the Journal. In the memo, Stewart attributed the move to the EV transition, writing, "The competition is fierce, and the cost of electrification cannot be passed on to the customer," The Wall Street Journal reported. Stellantis last offered buyouts to salaried US employees last fall.
AI systems must reflect China's "socialist core values," according to new rules reported by The New York Times. Proposed regulations could make it harder for Alibaba, Baidu and other Chinese tech companies to chase OpenAI. Bytedance and Tencent are also competing in the new AI race against Google and Facebook. A new wave of AI models is already beginning to disrupt Western business and society by automating some tasks and convincingly lying about important topics. Tencent, Bytedance, Baidu, Alibaba, Sensetime, and other big Chinese tech companies have the technical prowess to develop their own generative AI models.
TORONTO, April 20 (Reuters) - Captain John Tavares scored his first postseason hat-trick as the Toronto Maples Leafs avenged a Game One rout with a 7-2 thrashing of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, leveling the opening round Stanley Cup playoff best-of-seven series at 1-1. Leafs fans had their fingers on the panic button after a 7-3 loss to the Lightning on Tuesday, booing the team off the ice. "We needed a response tonight in a big way," said Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe. The oddsmakers are backing Toronto to win the best-of-seven series but history favors the Lightning, who have won seven consecutive playoff series after taking the first game. Thursday's contest turned nasty right from the start with the Leafs' Mark Giordano and Tampa Bay tough guy Zach Bogosian dropping the gloves to fight early in the opening period.

The teams traded goals in the third, Ross Colton counting for Tampa Bay and Calle Jarnkrok for Toronto.
Stellantis on Wednesday said it has hired the chief financial officer from global grocery company Ahold Delhaize to replace CFO Richard Palmer, who plans to leave the company at the end of June. Palmer will be succeeded by Natalie Knight, who has served as CFO at the Netherlands-based food retailer since early 2020. The automaker did not release details regarding why Palmer, who served as CFO through two major global mergers, is leaving the company. The resulting automaker then merged with French company PSA Groupe in 2021, forming Stellantis. Stellantis said Knight will be based at the company's U.S. headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, "with extensive travel to Europe and the other regions."

NEW YORK, April 5 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) and Chrysler-parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI) said on Wednesday that most of its electric and plug-in electric hybrid models will see tax credits halved to $3,750 on April 18 after new U.S. Treasury rules take effect. The other models currently getting credits - Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford E-Transit, Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid and Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring - will see credits drop to $3,750. Stellantis said of its three plug-in hybrid electric models, its Chrysler Pacifica plug-in electric hybrid will qualify for $7,500 tax credits after April 18, while the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and Jeep Wrangler 4xe qualify for just $3,750. All U.S. EV consumer tax credits require vehicles to be assembled in North America and have income and retail price caps. Electric vehicles leased by consumers can qualify for up to $7,500 in commercial clean vehicle tax credits without any of the same restrictions.
The EV truck will go on sale in one of the most important segments of the North American electric vehicle market. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said the truck will be built in the U.S. and the location would be announced soon. He told reporters on the sidelines of the auto show that consumers will choose the Ram over other EV trucks because it will exceed other trucks' performance on range, speed of charge, towing and other factors. The Ram truck's launch late in 2024 will come more than two years after similar EV trucks like the Rivian (RIVN.O) R1T electric pickup and Ford's (F.N) F-150 Lightning electric truck. The RAM EV truck will be built on a new body-on-frame architecture designed for full-size EVs, capable of towing up to 14,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 2,700 lbs.
GM expects to get 400 miles of range from its electric trucks. That’s one reason why having a lot of range can be an especially good thing in an electric truck. The pickup truck battle of numbers isn’t just limited to power and pulling, however. Even the Ram TRX, a pickup designed for high-speed desert driving, has a 702-horsepower V8 engine, only slightly more power than the Ram REV. Essentially a plug-in hybrid, that truck will be for customers who aren’t ready to trust a fully electric truck.

NEW YORK — An upcoming Ram electric pickup truck from Stellantis will offer up to 500 miles of driving range when fully charged, the automaker said Wednesday as it officially revealed the vehicle. That range would top Ram's current gas-powered 1500 full-size trucks as well as all-electric pickups currently available such as GMC's Hummer EV, Ford's F-150 Lightning and Rivian's R1T. Tesla has said its Cybertruck, which is expected later this year, would be capable of up to 500 miles of EV range. "We are delivering an electric pickup truck when we should, because for electrification being first actually might not be the best," Ram CEO Mike Koval Jr. said during the event. "The Ram 1500 REV lineup will give our customers options depending on how they use their truck."

MILAN, April 4 (Reuters) - Proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) is recommending a vote in favour of Stellantis (STLAM.MI) Chief Executive Carlos Tavares' remuneration after he took a pay cut and shareholders rejected last year's compensation package. The recommendation came in a report on Stellantis's upcoming annual general meeting seen by Reuters on Tuesday. The world's third largest carmaker earlier this year said Tavares' total pay for 2022 amounted to 14.9 million euros ($16.3 million), 14% lower than a 17.4 million euro compensation for the previous year. The executive remuneration package for 2021, which prompted criticism from trade unions and politicians, especially in France, was rejected by over 52% of Stellantis investors in a consultative vote at last year's annual general meeting. "The affordability is not there, because the raw materials are scarce and very expensive, and I would add very volatile," Tavares said. Even mining executives have expressed concern that demand for these materials continues to outstrip the current available supply.
The EU has progressively tightened limits since "Euro 1" in 1992. The Commission's proposal widens real-driving emissions (RDE) testing and adds continuous testing of emissions via an on-board monitoring system. Euro 7 would take effect in mid-2025 for cars and in mid-2027 for trucks and buses. The European Commission estimates Euro 7 could add up to 150 euros to car prices and 2,600 euros for trucks and buses. A Commission spokesperson declined to comment on executives' statements, but said Euro 7's real-driving emissions tests were important because of "scandals in the past about cheating devices".

In the long run, this generation may also be hit by cuts in Social Security benefits. In the longer run, millennials' retirement may also be affected if Social Security benefits are cut. Millennials in their 30s are accruing debt faster than their peersWhile Experian and Credit Karma research show Gen X has the highest average debt, millennials still hold a lot of debt too — and are accumulating it faster than anyone else. Millennials face looming retirement insecurityIf all of that wasn't enough, millennials' retirement situation in the future could be different from Gen X and baby boomers. Additionally, millennials' retirement safety nets are likely to be affected if they can't get full Social Security benefits.
CNN —After I parked a new 2023 Toyota Prius and walked away, I turned around to look at it. How could hybrids, vehicles that burn gasoline, reduce greenhouse gas emissions more than vehicles that burn no gasoline at all?. reducing emissions rather than just acting as an inducement to buy an electric car, pointed out Jason Keller, Toyota’s director of dealer policy in the US. Prices for the Toyota Prius, for instance, start at just $27,000, a price only a few electric vehicles, like the Chevrolet Bolt, can approach. Lexus, Toyota’s luxury brand, is expected to sell only electric vehicles by 2030.
