A federal judge reimposed a gag order on Donald Trump in his criminal election interference case, rejecting Trump's arguments that the restrictions on his speech were unconstitutional. Trump called Barr "dumb" and "weak" and a "loser," in response to Barr's remarks at the University of Chicago's Institute of Politics last week. A spokesman for special counsel Jack Smith, whose team is prosecuting the case, declined to comment on whether Trump's latest attack on Barr violated the gag order. Lawyers for Trump had asked for a longer stay of the gag order while they appealed it in a higher court. Trump has already violated that gag order twice, drawing a total of $15,000 in penalties.

Former President Donald Trump faces a key week ahead, and yet again the drama won’t be on the campaign trail but in the courtroom as the GOP front-runner’s children prepare to testify before a judge. Ivanka Trump was initially listed as a co-defendant, but a New York appeals court dismissed that status, finding that the claims against her were too old. Chutkan had imposed a narrow gag order on Trump earlier this month, barring him from making public statements targeting prosecutors, court staff and potential witnesses. But she paused the gag order to allow Trump’s defense team time to argue why his speech should not be restricted. The ACLU has sided with Trump, arguing that the gag order is a violation of First Amendment free speech protections.

CNN —The federal judge overseeing Donald Trump’s federal election subversion criminal case has reinstated the gag order she issued on the former president earlier this month. US District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Sunday denied Trump’s request to pause the order while his appeal of it plays out. She also lifted a temporary freeze on the gag order that she issued on October 20 while she considered his request. The gag order, which was limited in scope, had prohibited Trump from making certain statements about the special counsel’s team or potential witnesses, including any comments that directly targeted court personnel, potential witnesses or the special counsel and his staff. This is a breaking story and will be updated.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan imposed the gag order at the Justice Department's request. A copy of the judge's written decision reinstating the gag order was not immediately available. Trump has made extensive comments to TV cameras staked outside a New York state courtroom, where he is currently standing trial on civil business-fraud charges. Special counsel Jack Smith urged a federal judge to reimpose and broaden a gag order on Donald Trump, outlining how the former president has used the short window of time since the original gag order was lifted to attack and intimidate witnesses. But Chutkan paused the gag order last week to allow Trump’s defense team time to argue why his speech should not be restricted. The ACLU has since sided with Trump, arguing that the gag order is a violation of First Amendment free speech protections. It took only days, though, for Trump to give Smith more ammunition for why the gag order is necessary. In response to the news, Trump took to his TruthSocial account to address Meadows.

By Andrew GoudswardWASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Friday asked former President Donald Trump whether he wants to appear on television when he stands trial in federal court on charges of attempting to overturn his 2020 election defeat. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington asked Trump’s lawyers to give their opinion by Nov. 10 on media requests to broadcast the trial, which is scheduled to begin in March 2024. They argue that a federal rule barring broadcast of criminal proceedings is unconstitutional. First, Trump appeared to make a new attack on the judge’s clerk in defiance of a gag order. It was not the first time Trump was fined for violating the gag order. As lawyers try the case inside the courtroom, Trump’s conducting his own public trial outside in the corridor. Former U.S. President Donald Trump attends the Trump Organization civil fraud trial, in New York State Supreme Court in the Manhattan borough of New York City, October 25, 2023. The American Civil Liberties Union argued Wednesday that the gag order slapped on former President Donald Trump in his federal election interference case violates the U.S. Constitution. The ACLU, a frequent and vocal critic of Trump that applauded his criminal indictment in the federal case in Washington, D.C., said that the restrictions placed on his speech run afoul of the First Amendment. "No modern-day president did more damage to civil liberties and civil rights than President Trump," said the group's executive director, Anthony Romero, in a press release. "But if we allow his free speech rights to be abridged, we know that other unpopular voices — even ones we agree with — will also be silenced," Romero said.

The long-shot legal motions represent Trump’s latest effort to have dismissed his federal election-interference prosecution and add to a mounting pile of requests under consideration by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan , who has indicated she has a low tolerance for politics in her courtroom.

But the case that may pose the greatest threat to Trump’s candidacy in 2024 is not one of his criminal cases. We are confident the rule of law will prevail, and this decision will be reversed — whether at the Colorado Supreme Court, or at the US Supreme Court,” a Trump campaign spokesperson said. But the Colorado case could be the one that makes it to our nation’s highest court. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment was intended to keep former Confederates from holding office after the war. The state’s Supreme Court rejected Griffin’s final appeal to overturn the decision earlier this year.

The former Trump attorney willavoid jail time but agreed to testify as a witness and pleaded guilty to six misdemeanors for conspiracy to commitintentional interference, downgraded from felony charges she had faced. He pleaded guilty Friday to a single felony, conspiracy to commit filingfalse documents. Trial dates have not been set, and Trump has pleaded not guilty. But guilty pleas, Williams said, are now evidence that crimes were committed as Trump tried to make Joe Biden’s 2020 victory disappear.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Iowa on Monday, Trump called the judge's order "unconstitutional" and vowed to appeal it. The order bars Trump, frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, and attorneys in the case from personally targeting Special Counsel Jack Smith, prosecutors working with him and court staff. Donald Trump made statements that threatened the integrity of his criminal election interference case, a federal judge said Tuesday as she detailed her decision to impose a partial gag order on the former president. The statements "pose sufficiently grave threats to the integrity of these proceedings that cannot be addressed by alternative means," the judge wrote. The gag order on Trump has been tailored "to meet the force of those threats," she added. Trump has vowed to appeal Chutkan's ruling, claiming that the gag order will hamper his ability to speak on the 2024 presidential campaign trail. Chutkan delivered that ruling from the bench Monday after hearing arguments from a federal prosecutor for special counsel Jack Smith, who sought the gag order, and a lawyer for Trump, who opposed any restrictions on his speech.

The federal judge in Trump's election interference case issued a gag order against him on Monday. Another gag order was issued by the judge in Trump's New York civil fraud trial earlier this month.
