He jumped straight out of the cockpit and crossed the circuit, which is a breach of regulations. But given his role model status within the series, and the danger represented, governing body FIA feels this may not have been enough. Hamilton reached the inside edge of the Losail track shortly before Russell arrived at full speed having exited the pit lane. He is third in the F1 standings behind Red Bull drivers Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen, who clinched his third straight F1 title in Qatar. Alpine driver Esteban Ocon vomited inside his helmet as track temperatures reached 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit).

And I'm not alone: People are spending less and less time on social media. But instead of spelling the death of social media, it may be the beginning of a better era. But instead of spelling the death of social media, it may be the beginning of a better era. Welcome to the Great Social Media Splintering. One recent study found social media could cause an increase in eating disorders and poor body image in men and women. The fatigue I have felt is therefore partly fueled by another, more-pressing concern: Which social network should I bank on? But until it emerges, I expect to continue living a splintered and nomadic online social life.

ImageWanderingDear Diary:I was wandering through Greenwich Village on a spring day, admiring the brownstones as well as the daffodils that were beginning to emerge from the earth. I noticed a man and a woman walking toward each other in opposite directions. Moments later, I saw the man look back over his shoulder for one more glimpse of the woman. They missed each other’s second glances by a matter of seconds, and to this day, I wonder what might have happened if they had looked back at the same time. I like to imagine that they now stroll through that neighborhood hand in hand, walking in the same direction.

3:30 p.m. Tour downtown’s Black historyTake in history on foot with Lost Stories of Black Charleston , a two-hour walking tour that starts at Buxton Books on King Street and explores two downtown neighborhoods: the French Quarter and South of Broad. On a recent stroll, the author and historian Damon Fordham (who said he never gives the same tour twice), pointed out the Broad Street location of the country’s first known Black law firm, Whipper, Elliott, and Allen, which opened in 1868. In front of the South Carolina Historical Society, he spoke of Denmark Vesey, a free Black man who, in 1822, planned an unsuccessful slave revolt. When his plan was revealed, white Charlestonians burned down Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where Mr. Vesey was a member. The church was rebuilt in 1872 (and again in 1891, following an earthquake) and was the site of the 2015 shooting that claimed the lives of nine Black churchgoers.

Welfare payments, dubbed "citizens' money", for more than 5.5 million jobless in Germany will rise to 563 euros ($605.06)from 502 euros per month for single people from next year. They will receive up to 636 euros per month for their first child and another 530 euros for every other child. Germans are divided whether the increase in welfare payments is justified with 45% in favour and 44% against it, the survey of 1005 respondents showed. Finance Minister Christian Lindner said last week in a presentation on the basic child allowance that benefits should not discourage people from working.

So I can say from experience that today's corporate return-to-office mandates are ridiculous, unnecessary and, in some instances, even cruel. For one, CEOs and CFOs are looking at big expenditures on corporate offices that remain either empty or are vastly oversized. The best run companies are focusing more on the thing they can best measure from afar: the work employees actually do. Not only do you do the work, you also eat there, work out there, and do your hobbies on campus. An office work environment will naturally evolve back to being a social hub over time, without draconian mandates that lack data and research to support them.

German consumer morale to fall in September -GfK
  + stars: | 2023-08-29 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
REUTERS/Michael Dalder Acquire Licensing RightsBERLIN, Aug 29 (Reuters) - German consumer sentiment is expected to fall in September, due to declining income expectations and propensity to buy, a GfK institute survey showed on Tuesday. "The chances that consumer sentiment can sustainably recover before the end of this year are dwindling more and more," said GfK consumer expert Ralf Buerkl. Persistently high inflation rates are hindering any improvement in consumer sentiment, said Buerkl. The consumer climate indicator forecasts the development of real private consumption in the following month. According to GfK, a one-point change in the indicator corresponds to a year-on-year change of 0.1% in private consumption.
