Elon Musk and his political action committee are seeking to move the Philadelphia District Attorney's lawsuit targeting their $1 million swing state voter daily lottery to federal court from a state-level court. It is not clear what will happen at the hearing, given the notice of removal in federal court. As a rule, federal law bars a state court proceeding from taking place if a party in the case has filed a notice of removal to federal court and a copy of that notice is filed with the state court. The notice filed in federal court by lawyers for Musk and his America PAC argue that because that PAC is registered as a federal entity, it is not subject to state law. Krasner's lawsuit, which claims Musk's $1 million giveaway is an illegal, unregulated lottery, was filed in Court of Common Pleas on Monday.

Lutnick could hold serious sway over which prospective candidates get in front of Trump as they vie for key positions in the federal government. Kennedy on Monday told supporters that Trump has promised to give him sweeping power over multiple agencies if the former president wins the election. Trump has previously told CNN he would consider appointing Kennedy to a role in a potential second administration. Kennedy serves on Trump’s transition team and has been campaigning as a surrogate for him in key battleground states since exiting the presidential race.

Philadelphia CNN —Tech billionaire and Trump ally Elon Musk is trying to move a lawsuit over his $1 million giveaway to voters into federal court, short-circuiting a required appearance Thursday at a Pennsylvania court. Lawyers for the Tesla CEO filed a “motion of removal” in federal court late Wednesday night. The parties will now continue pressing their case in federal court. Foglietta said he’s available later Thursday or Friday if the federal judge sends the case back to state court. Musk endorsed Trump in July and has donated $118 million to his super PAC.

SpaceX workers got stuck on a barge with a spaceship full of toxic fuel in 2010, a new book reports. After the Dragon spaceship's first flight, a SpaceX crew retrieved it from the ocean. A Dragon spaceship approaches the International Space Station with astronauts on board in 2021. That's why SpaceX workers immediately checked for leaks, according to the book. The Dragon spaceship went on to become a staple of NASA's programming, transporting supplies and astronaut crews to and from the International Space Station.

“We have to reduce spending to live within our means,” Musk said. That gives Musk’s frankness about reductions — and his track record of making large, painful cuts at his own companies — added weight. The Trump campaign didn’t immediately comment but has previously said that the GOP agenda wouldn’t cause short-term economic hardship. There’s some skepticism on Wall Street that a new Trump administration could implement spending cuts on the scale Musk has proposed. “They’re both indicating they intend to maintain substantial deficits and elevated government spending, certainly compared with the strength of the economy,” Elliott said.

They have thrown economies into a tailspin, causing deep recessions and social upheaval. Elon Musk and hedge fund manager John Paulson are calling for cuts to the U.S. budget if former President Donald Trump is re-elected and they join his cabinet. Both have both endorsed slashing budgets, with Musk this week calling for a $2 trillion reduction. The other question involves the impact of sharp budget cuts on the U.S. economy. Musk has suggested the economy – and, by extension, Americans — would need to endure short-term pain for long-term gains.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk speaks at a rally for former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at Madison Square Garden in New York, October 27, 2024. Former President Donald Trump's top allies and surrogates, like Tesla CEO Elon Musk appear to accept that the Republican presidential nominee's policy plans could trigger a short-term economic thunderstorm. But they contend it will be worth the sunnier long-term outlook. "Correct: If I raise the tariff on just this particular idiosyncratic product, yes, right, it will be more expensive," Lutnick said in a Thursday interview on CNBC's "Squawk Box," responding to a question about whether universal tariffs would effectively become a short-term sales tax. Trump's running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, has also nodded to the potential consumer pain of Trump's vision for across-the-board tariffs, though he hedged that it would be worth the possible benefits.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner is suing Elon Musk and his super PAC to block their million-dollar giveaway to registered voters, seeking to halt the lottery-style stunt that election experts, and the Justice Department, have warned might violate federal law. It’s illegal under federal law to pay someone to vote, but Musk insists he isn’t paying people to register. Musk and America PAC have said that their monetary giveaways are to encourage petition signatures. Still, his contest is only open to those in key battleground state and favors Pennsylvania voters by awarding them all $100 each. An attorney representing America PAC did not respond immediately to a request for comment on the suit.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Elon Musk and Vladimir Putin have shared secret calls since 2022. A former DoD analyst said that a relationship like this could pose national security concerns. Because of his work with the federal government via SpaceX, Musk holds a security clearance that gives him access to some classified information. "The security clearance adjudication process looks at several factors, and undue foreign influence is just one of those factors," Stransky, now a partner at Thompson Hine law firm, said. The existence of an ongoing Musk-Putin relationship would be further complicated by the billionaire tech leader's recent foray into US politics.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk defended the legality of his super PAC’s $1 million daily giveaway to registered voters in swing states, days after the Justice Department sent a letter warning that the lottery-style contest might be unlawful. The PAC is also offering $100 to Pennsylvania registered voters who sign the petition. Musk’s daily drawing for $1 million is open to registered voters in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Musk took a harsher tone toward the Justice Department on two other subjects during the online town hall. Astronomers have never detected dark matter, but they believe it makes up about 85% of the total matter in the universe. Meanwhile, the existence of dark energy helps researchers explain why the universe is expanding — and why that expansion is speeding up. A prime example is the European Space Agency’s wide-angle Euclid telescope that launched in 2023 to investigate the riddles of dark energy and dark matter. Euclid this week delivered the first piece of a cosmic map — containing about 100 million stars and galaxies — that will take six years to create. These stunning 3D observations may help scientists see how dark matter warps light and curves space across galaxies.

President Joe Biden called out Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, now a Republican megadonor and Trump campaign surrogate, for hypocrisy on immigration on Saturday, saying Musk launched his long career in the U.S. as an "illegal worker" before becoming the world's wealthiest man. The president made these remarks at a campaign event to support Democrats that took place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. Labeling Musk as former President Donald Trump's wealthy new "ally," Biden said, "That wealthiest man in the world turned out to be an illegal worker here when he was here," referring to Musk. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment on Biden's remarks. Musk had arrived in the U.S. with the stated intention of attending grad school at Stanford in the mid-90s.

A NASA astronaut was flown to a hospital with an unspecified medical issue on Friday shortly after returning to Earth from a nearly eight-month mission on the International Space Station, the space agency said. The astronaut, who NASA did not name for privacy reasons, had splashed down off Florida’s coast at 3:29 a.m. ET on Friday aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule with three other crew members — two NASA astronauts and a Russian cosmonaut. Their 235 days in space made it longer than the usual six-month ISS mission duration and marked the longest stay in orbit for SpaceX’s reusable Crew Dragon spacecraft. The Elon Musk-owned company remains the only U.S. option for NASA astronaut trips to and from the ISS.
