CNN —Donald Trump announced on Thursday that his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, will be named his White House chief of staff. “Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns,” the president-elect said in a statement. It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. “Susie Wiles ran Trump’s best campaign of the three, and it wasn’t particularly close,” Turning Point USA CEO Charlie Kirk wrote on X. The president, and America, would be well served with Susie in that key role.”CNN’s Kaitlan Collins and Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

Just five minutes of vigorous exercise a day might help lower blood pressure, a new study suggests. People with high blood pressure have a higher risk for heart disease and stroke, the leading causes of death in the U.S. Nearly half of all Americans have high blood pressure, which is defined as a systolic blood pressure (the upper number) of greater than 130 or a diastolic blood pressure (the lower number) greater than 80. The researchers found that replacing any less active behavior with five minutes of exercise could lower systolic blood pressure by 0.68 points and diastolic blood pressure by 0.54 points. An estimated two point improvement in systolic blood pressure was observed when 20 minutes of vigorous exercise replaced, for example, 21 minutes of sedentary time or 26 minutes of slow-walking.

An effort to legalize the use of recreational marijuana in Florida has failed at the ballot box, NBC News projects. Despite endorsements running the gamut from the Florida Democratic Party to former President Donald Trump, Amendment 3, which would have legalized the recreational use and manufacturing of marijuana in the state, failed to get the 60% voter support needed to pass a state constitutional amendment. Florida voters expanded eligibility for medical use in a successful 2016 statewide vote. For the foreseeable future, however, recreational use of the drug will remain illegal in Florida. We don’t need that in Florida,” DeSantis said of the drug, also urging voters to reject Amendment 4, which would enshrine Roe-era reproductive health protections in the Florida Constitution.

Kremlin officials and allies welcomed Donald Trump's 2024 election win. AdvertisementKremlin officials and allies celebrated as Donald Trump closed in on victory in the 2024 election. Meanwhile, Kirill Dmitriev, the head of Russia's sovereign wealth fund, said a Trump victory could help improve Russia's relationship with the US. Tech billionaire Elon Musk and his business empire stand to reap massive rewards if former President Donald Trump returns to the White House. Elon Musk joins former US President Donald Trump during a campaign event in Butler, Pa., on Oct. 5, 2024. “I love Elon Musk,” Trump said at a rally in July. It’s not clear how Musk and Trump would navigate the ethical questions around a possible government role for the tech billionaire. “He would be in much less trouble in a Trump administration because Trump shares his hostility to regulation and regulators,” Richard Pierce, a law professor at George Washington University specializing in government regulation, told NBC News in an interview earlier this year.

All else being equal, 74% of parents said they would move their children to a different school if it offered financial education and investment courses. SIFMA with Wakefield Research polled 1,000 U.S. parents of students in grades K-12. Getting your child hands-on experience with investing is also a smart strategy, advisors say. My friend and I budgeted $10,000 to launch a pickleball paddle company. Our product, pickleball paddles, would be more expensive to produce. Keeping our business money separate from our personal funds seemed like a smart bookkeeping move — and it made us feel more legit. We're working with a product sourcing company, 330 Trading, which helps eCommerce businesses connect with factories to manufacture their product. Between prototypes and a shipment of 20 of our final product paddles (seven of which went to USAP for testing), we've spent about $1,475.

But then there are voters who say former President Donald Trump lacks the character or demeanor a president should have. And some specifically panned the the racist and demeaning rhetoric from Trump allies at last week's rally at Madison Square Garden, criticizing them for alienating Americans instead of bringing them together. Other voters derisively mentioned Harris' laughter, called Trump more "transparent in what he's looking to do," and cited their support for Trump economic policies like tariffs and not taxing overtime pay. For the Harris supporters who briefly, seriously, considered Trump, the former president's tone and demeanor looms large. Again, a handful of voters brought up the rally comments about Puerto Ricans when voters describing something that made them view Trump more negatively.
