New York CNN —Sam’s Club has now entered the Thanksgiving meal deal wars. Sam’s Club on Thursday announced a Member’s Mark Thanksgiving meal, which feeds up to 10 people for under $100, made up of the warehouse club’s private label products. That follows Aldi, which released its lowest-priced Thanksgiving meal deal in five years, feeding 10 people for $47, or $4.70 per person. That is about $2 cheaper than a similar offer at Walmart, which owns Sam’s Club, which markets a meal to serve eight people for less than $7 per person. Unlike Aldi and Walmart’s turkey dinner, Sam’s Club is also offering to deliver the meal fully pre-cooked, ready to be heated up and served in under two hours.

Mattel, Hasbro lower guidance ahead of holiday season
  + stars: | 2024-10-24 | by ( Kristian Burt | In | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Mattel and Hasbro decreased their end-of-year guidance ahead of the key holiday season as toy sales continue to slide during the third quarter. The lowered guidance comes before the important holiday season, where softened results could have major effects for retail companies such as Mattel and Hasbro. Hasbro cut 1,100 workers last December after weak sales in 2023 continued into the holiday season, while Mattel was carried through by the success of the "Barbie" movie. Aside from building block sets, Hasbro expects the toy market to continue to see a trend of softened sales into the holiday season. "Our expectation is the holiday season will probably continue that trend.

As a makeup artist, I love products from Rare Beauty — but lately, I've been using a blush from ELF. The ELF Camo liquid blush has a buildable formula that gave my cheeks a natural-looking flush. In my opinion, the ELF Camo liquid blush is worth buying, especially since it's only $7. So, when the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch liquid blush first went viral on TikTok, I knew I had to try it out. But last month, I purchased the ELF Camo liquid blush — which sells for about one-third of the price of the Rare Beauty version — and it left me pleasantly surprised.

New York CNN —Target is slashing prices on more than 2,000 items, marking the second time this year that the retailer cut customer costs as it attempts to attract inflation-weary shoppers ahead of the holiday shopping season. Some prices have dropped effective immediately on a number of items, including home goods, beauty products, food, beverages and toys. In a press release, Target said it “routinely adjusts its prices to remain competitive in markets across the country” and the discounting will continue through December. In May, Target announced it was going to slash prices on 5,000 items but ended up surpassing that number, cutting prices on 8,000 products. However, there’s some good news for stores: Spending at US retailers climbed 0.4% in September from the prior month, according to government data released last week.

30-Year Mortgage RatesAverage 30-year mortgage rates are close to 6.20%, according to Zillow data. 5-Year Mortgage Rate TrendsHere's how 30-year and 15-year mortgage rates have trended over the last five years, according to Freddie Mac data. Mortgage rates are determined by a variety of different factors, including larger economic trends, Federal Reserve policy, your state's current mortgage rates, the type of loan you're getting, and your personal financial profile. But now that inflation has decelerated and the Fed is expected to cut rates soon, mortgage rates have trended down. This means your entire monthly mortgage payment, including taxes and insurance, shouldn't exceed 28% of your pre-tax monthly income.

Luxury stocks may be a risky China stimulus bet
  + stars: | 2024-10-19 | by ( Hakyung Kim | In Hakyungkim | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +7 min
A post-pandemic spending surge led to luxury stocks such as LVMH to reach all-time highs in early 2023, but that soon changed. We believe improved confidence and sentiment is required to reach even our flat year-over-year Chinese luxury growth forecast for 2025," Wallace noted. Luxury stocks are feeling the pressure — year to date, U.S.-traded shares of major players LVMH and Kering are down about 17% and 41%, respectively. Analysts and investors are mixed as to whether the Chinese stimulus measures can revive luxury spending growth among consumers — and whether it will create a meaningful tailwind for luxury companies. Whether the luxury sector can continue growing at the same levels without as much Chinese consumer spending remains in question.

The country's economy is slowing down, and some shoppers are rethinking their luxury purchases.
