Here are the best retirement plans, calculators, investment strategies, and tips you can use to ensure your retirement savings plan is on track. Understanding retirement needsAssessing your retirement needsUnfortunately, there's no general number to aim for when saving toward retirement. Financial experts recommend delaying Social Security until you reach full retirement age (age 70). This rule states that retirees can withdraw up to 4% of their retirement savings in year one of retirement. The 4% rule in retirement planning suggests withdrawing 4% of your retirement savings each year to prevent you from prematurely running out of money for at least 30 years.

But China has been rocked by a number of high-profile stabbing cases in recent decades, including multiple such attacks at schools. However, with a sticker price of nearly $80,000 per year, including tuition, fees, and room and board, Montiel-García, like many college hopefuls, needed financial aid to bring the cost down. Because of problems with the new form, financial aid award letters were delayed and some high school seniors, like Montiel-García, had trouble applying for any aid at all. In previous years, financial aid award letters were sent out at about the same time as admission letters, meaning students had several weeks to compare offers ahead of National College Decision Day, the deadline for most admitted students to decide on a college. Because of the extensive delays this year, some students won't get their final financial aid award letter until the end of August, the U.S. Department of Education said in a recent update. The high school graduate from Riverdale Park, Maryland, secured enough additional funding from the Maryland College Aid Processing System to afford his top choice school: Towson University.

More older Americans are heading toward retirement with little to no savings, and the situation is increasingly income-stratified. An AARP survey found that just around a fifth of American adults 50 and older have no retirement savings. AdvertisementAt the same time, there's a growing income disparity between retirement savings. And, except for the richest Americans, retirement balances didn't have any "detectable differences" during that same period — suggesting that only the highest-earning retirees were saving up more. On Monday, Trump's campaign announced that the Republican National Committee adopted the former president's platform for the Republican Party. It also promised to preserve Social Security and Medicare benefits without any cuts, including no efforts to raise the retirement age to receive federal benefits. The latest Social Security and Medicare Board of Trustees report found that the program will only be able to pay out full benefits for the next 11 years , after which 83% of the benefits will be available. The platform said that "Trump has made absolutely clear that he will not cut one penny from Medicare or Social Security. I have had extensive conversations with the leadership of the party, elected officials, rank and file members, and most importantly, Democratic voters over these past 10 days or so. Believe me, I know better than anyone the responsibility and the burden the nominee of our party carries. The voters of the Democratic Party have voted. I feel a deep obligation to the faith and the trust the voters of the Democratic Party have placed in me to run this year. The voters - and the voters alone - decide the nominee of the Democratic Party.

The common denominator is that it's coming from someone you care about who needs money "fast." A 2023 survey from McAfee found that 25% of adults have experienced a similar AI voice scam — and the company says 77% of victims have lost money as a result. But older adults aren't the only ones at risk; younger people who spend more time online are increasingly vulnerable, CFP Andrew Sivertsen said.

CNN —Senior members of Jemaah Islamiyah, the Southeast Asian militant network blamed for the deadly Bali bombings, have announced they are disbanding the group, according to a report by a Jakarta-based think tank on Thursday. The report from the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict (IPAC) confirmed the authenticity of a June 30 video statement by 16 Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) leaders announcing they were dissolving the extremist network. The Al-Qaeda-linked militant group is accused of orchestrating some of the deadliest attacks in Indonesia, including the 2002 bombing of Bali nightclubs that killed more than 200 people. Indonesia’s National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) declined to comment on the development, but said it planned to hold a press conference soon. Despite the clout of the figures involved, IPAC noted the group has a history of splinters and it was possible one could emerge in the future, although probably not immediately.

Last year, almost 30% of the Japanese population was 65 or older. In June 2023, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida unveiled a multi-billion dollar package of measures to encourage families to have more children. The growth of the older population is also changing the consumer product market. Demand for adult diapers in Japan has been rising, while the need for baby diapers has fallen. Electronics giant Panasonic has been researching and developing products aimed at the older population since 1990, according to its website.

He’s going to be a killer rebounder, monster screener and will consistently establish his position even against some of the stronger NBA players. I’m done doubting Edey, even as an NBA player. As an enormous ballhandler with serious touch and incredible vision as a passer, Topić is clearly an NBA player, even if it doesn’t all translate. Shannon is an elite athlete, but the NBA game requires more nuance, especially if he continues to be an inconsistent shooter. However, I also think he’s more than just a floor spacer on offense in spot-up situations and potentially as an off-ball scorer.

The latest research on the prevalence of aspirin use to prevent cardiovascular disease suggests that in 2021, nearly a third of adults 60 or older without cardiovascular disease were still using aspirin. Among adults 60 or older, nearly 30% reported taking aspirin to prevent cardiovascular disease, and around 5% of all adults 60 or older reported using aspirin without medical advice. Among those regularly taking aspirin, 89% reported taking a low-dose aspirin, according to the survey, while 11% indicated they take regular strength aspirin, which makes their risk of excessive bleeding even higher. The other alarming aspect is that many individuals are taking aspirin without the guidance of a healthcare provider,” Montgomery said. Regardless, any patient taking aspirin regularly should discuss that behavior with their physician, Weintraub said.

Meanwhile, for older voters, ages 50 and older, Social Security is a top economic concern, the results found. "Democrats only have a three-point advantage on Social Security right now, so the parties are basically tied," said Jeff Liszt, partner at Impact Research. Democrats in Congress have proposed plans to make Social Security benefits more generous, which would be paid for by taking the wealthy.

Mexican cartels are exploiting timeshare scams, targeting older Americans for over $300 million. Cartels often conduct "extensive research on their potential victims" before the scam, the FBI said. AdvertisementIt seems even Mexican drug cartels are cashing in on the day's most lucrative criminal enterprise: online scams. The Jalisco New Generation Cartel, Gulf Cartel, and the Sinaloa Cartel — which El Chapo once led — have all dabbled in online scams, the FBI says. Their scam of choice appears to be timeshare fraud, targeting mostly older Americans to the tune of over $300 million in the last five years.

CNN —A truism of American politics is that older voters prefer the Republican and younger voters prefer the Democrat. In 2012, Republican Mitt Romney lost the election, but he did better than Democrat Barack Obama among voters 45 and older. Older voters are gravitating to Biden, and younger voters are taking a look at Trump. But older voters have gone in the opposite direction, and instead of favoring Trump, are nearly split in the Marist poll. Despite the shift of older voters in the direction of Biden (and younger voters away from him), I was surprised to see older voters still have reservations about Biden’s age.
