Federal prosecutors are charging Sen. Robert Menendez in a bribery and corruption scandal. Menendez allegedly helped a trio of businessmen and Egypt in exchange for — among other things — gold bars. Menendez previously faced corruption charges in 2017, but the case was dropped. The indictment alleges that Menendez "provided sensitive US government information and took other steps that secretly aided the Government of Egypt." Menendez said he decided to step down temporarily as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Menendez has been a crucial partner for Biden on these and other foreign policy priorities.
