"President Trump hosting racist antisemites for dinner encourages other racist antisemites," wrote Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana on Twitter. LONDON, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Britain will not force tech giants to remove content that is "legal but harmful" from their platforms after campaigners and lawmakers raised concerns that the move could curtail free speech, the government said on Monday. Digital Secretary Michelle Donelan said she aimed to stop unregulated social media platforms damaging children. Britain, like the European Union and other countries, has been grappling with the problem of legislating to protect users, and in particular children, from harmful user-generated content on social media platforms without damaging free speech. Only if platforms failed to uphold their own rules or remove criminal content could a fine of up to 10% of annual turnover apply. Britain said late on Saturday that a new criminal offence of assisting or encouraging self-harm online would be included in the bill.
Several top Republican officials have condemed Trump for meeting with white nationalist Nick Fuentes. Trump recently had dinner with Fuentes and Kanye West, who has also made anti-Semitic comments. We also discussed, to a lesser extent, politics, where I told him he should definitely not run for President ...," Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. It's indefensible," Cheney, the top Republican on the House January 6 committee, wrote on Twitter. Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois:"The brown shirts shouldn't intimidate you," Kinzinger, the only other Republican on the January 6 committee, wrote on Twitter.
WASHINGTON—Criticism of Donald Trump‘s recent dinner with Kanye West and Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist and far-right personality, mounted over the weekend, with some members of both political parties condemning the former president and calling for him to take a firmer stance on anti-Semitism. The controversy over the Tuesday dinner came about a week after Mr. Trump announced he is running for president again. Mr. Trump said he didn’t know Mr. Fuentes and was accommodating a meeting request from Mr. West, the rapper who goes by Ye. The former president already is facing legal problems and resistance from some fellow Republicans who want to see another party standard-bearer emerge for the 2024 election.
WASHINGTON, Nov 27 (Reuters) - Some Republicans on Sunday criticized Donald Trump for dining with white supremacist Nick Fuentes at the former president's Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida, even as Trump said the encounter was inadvertent. Also, I didn't know Nick Fuentes," Trump wrote. The White House slammed Trump, saying in a statement that "bigotry, hate, and antisemitism have absolutely no place in America — including at Mar-A-Lago." "To my friend Donald Trump, you are better than this. Even a social visit from an antisemite like Kanye West and human scum like Nick Fuentes is unacceptable," Friedman wrote on Twitter.
Donald Trump says Kayne West sought advice on business issues on a visit to Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday. Trump said he also told West not to run for president in 2024. In another post on Friday, Trump said that West asked him "for advice concerning some of his difficulties, in particular having to do with his business." West said Trump reacted negatively when he announced his plan to make a White House run. Representatives for West and Trump didn't immediately respond to a request for comment by Insider.
But despite Trump’s suggestion the event was “uneventful,” the fallout over his dinner with Fuentes appears to have thrown Trump’s campaign into damage control mode. In addition to Giorno and Fuentes, Ye also brought along another man who was an associate, according to the sources. Fuentes attended that event and, after Trump said he denounced white supremacy at the rally, Fuentes denounced him for that. In his video debrief, Ye said that “Trump is really impressed with Nick Fuentes. “I’m like hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, Trump.

Ye and Fuentes were first spotted together at an airport in Miami on Tuesday. —Right Wing Watch (@RightWingWatch) November 23, 2022Politico and The Daily Beast both reported that Fuentes and Ye were seen together at Trump's golf club. NEW YORK, Nov 19 (Reuters) - Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving said on Saturday that he was "deeply" apologetic after his team suspended him earlier this month for sharing anti-Semitic content on social media and not disavowing anti-Semitism. He told local sports network SNY on Saturday that he was not anti-Semitic and wanted to "set a greater example." Irving faced heavy criticism after posting a link on Twitter last month to an anti-Semitic 2018 documentary and defending it. He later said it contained "false anti-Semitic statements" and apologized "for posting the documentary without context." Nike Inc (NKE.N) suspended its relationship with Irving in the aftermath and canceled the release of its next Irving-branded shoe.
CNN —Dave Chappelle’s comments about the Jewish community during his “Saturday Night Live” monologue are being slammed as antisemitic. Anti-Defamation League chief executive officer Jonathan Greenblatt took to Twitter on Sunday to criticize the comedian and the NBC late night show. “We shouldn’t expect @DaveChappelle to serve as society’s moral compass, but disturbing to see @nbcsnl not just normalize but popularize #antisemitism,” Greenblatt tweeted. “But if they’re Jewish, it’s a coincidence and you should never speak about it.”Chappelle went on to talk about the abundance of Jewish people in Hollywood. “But it’s a crazy thing to say out loud.”Writer Adam Feldman tweeted “That Dave Chappelle SNL monologue probably did more to normalize anti-Semitism than anything Kanye said.”“Everyone knows Kanye is nuts,” Feldman wrote.
Nov 12 (Reuters) - Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving's team-imposed, minimum five-game suspension for promoting an anti-Semitic documentary will extend to a sixth game, according to an ESPN report on Saturday. The Nets' game on Saturday at the Los Angeles Clippers marked the fifth contest of the suspension imposed on Irving but head coach Jacque Vaughn said in the report he would not be reinstated for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers. "I do know (Irving's) not available (on Sunday)," Vaughn said before Saturday's game, according to the report. Before he posted his apology, the Nets suspended Irving, saying that despite speaking to reporters during two media availabilities, he had refused to disavow anti-Semitism. Irving has since met with National Basketball Association Commissioner Adam Silver, who said he did not believe the Brooklyn Nets guard was anti-Semitic.
CNN —NBA commissioner Adam Silver believes that suspended Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving is not antisemitic following a meeting between the two earlier in the week, the commissioner told the New York Times. Silver, who is Jewish, told the Times that the two had “a direct and candid conversation” at the league’s headquarters in New York. While the NBA did not hand down its own suspension to Irving, Silver said the punishment “got to the right outcome,” acknowledging the criticism the league faced for not suspending Irving sooner. Silver told the audience that Amazon bore some of the responsibility for having the film on its platform. Silver said the Nets along with the league will consult to decide when Irving can return from suspension.

Nov 10 (Reuters) - NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said he met with Kyrie Irving earlier this week and that he did not believe the Brooklyn Nets guard was anti-Semitic, Yahoo Sports reported on Thursday. Irving was heavily criticized for promoting a film that the seven-time All-Star has since said contained "false anti-Semitic statements". The Nets suspended him for at least five games after he "refused to unequivocally say he has no anti-Semitic beliefs". Silver added: "Whether or not he is anti-Semitic is not relevant to the damage caused by the posting of hateful content." If he serves a five-game suspension, Irving would be available to play Nov. 13 against the Lakers in Los Angeles.
CNN —Suspended Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving reportedly met with NBA commissioner Adam Silver on Tuesday, according to multiple reports, including one from the Athletic’s Shams Charania, citing unnamed sources. According to Charania, Silver and Irving met and had “a productive and understanding visit,” as Irving and the Nets work toward his return to the court. CNN has reached out to the NBA, the Nets and Irving’s representatives but has not heard back. Before the game, the Nets named assistant coach Jacque Vaughn as their next permanent head coach. Vaughn was the interim head coach after Brooklyn parted ways with former head coach Steve Nash last week after a disappointing 2-5 start.

Democrat Josh Shapiro defeated far-right Republican Doug Mastriano in the Pennsylvania governor’s race on Tuesday, NBC News projected, providing Democrats with a significant victory in a contest where oversight of the 2024 election and abortion rights took center stage. ET, Shapiro held a lead of more than 13 points over Mastriano. Speaking to reporters on his campaign bus last week, Shapiro said Mastriano “is by far the most extreme and dangerous person to ever run for public office in Pennsylvania. Mastriano said his position on abortion was irrelevant because abortion laws are ultimately up to the state Legislature. Elected to the state Senate in 2019, Mastriano rose to prominence after the 2020 election when Trump sought allies in state Legislatures to help him reverse his loss.

Nov 4 (Reuters) - Nike Inc. on Friday suspended its relationship with Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving and canceled its next Irving-branded shoe release in the aftermath of his promotion of an anti-Semitic documentary. The Nets had already suspended Irving at least five games after he stopped short of fully disavowing the documentary on two occasions. Irving later issued a more fulsome apology late on Thursday for promoting a project he said contained "false anti-Semitic statements." But the apology was not enough to stop Nike from suspending ties with Irving. To that end, we've made the decision to suspend our relationship with Kyrie Irving effective immediately and will no longer launch the Kyrie 8," Nike said in a statement.
“To that end, we’ve made the decision to suspend our relationship with Kyrie Irving effective immediately and will no longer launch the Kyrie 8. Reporters asked Irving earlier Thursday – before he posted his apology – if he holds antisemitic beliefs or if he was sorry. When asked Friday if there was any consideration of releasing Irving, Nets general manager Sean Marks replied, “No. Asked if he had any antisemitic beliefs, Irving responded: “I respect all walks of life. “Kyrie Irving made a reckless decision to post a link to a film containing deeply offensive antisemitic material,” Silver said in a statement before Irving apologized.

Kyrie Irving told reporters that he took responsibility for sharing a documentary that ‘may have had some unfortunate falsehoods,’ but he refused to apologize or disavow the film. Kyrie Irving was suspended by the Brooklyn Nets for a minimum of five games without pay on Thursday night in response to the NBA star’s refusal to unequivocally disavow anti-Semitism after a weeklong drama that consumed the league. Hours after his suspension was announced, after declining to apologize or denounce anti-Semitism earlier in the day, Irving responded on Instagram apologizing for his comments for the first time.
Kyrie Irving told reporters that he took responsibility for sharing a documentary that ‘may have had some unfortunate falsehoods,’ but he refused to apologize or disavow the film. A battle between the NBA and Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving intensified on Thursday when league commissioner Adam Silver admonished Irving for not apologizing after he promoted a movie that contains anti-Semitic themes, only for Irving to respond defiantly. Irving and the Nets had on Wednesday issued a joint statement with the Anti-Defamation League saying the team and its point guard would contribute $1 million to organizations that work to “eradicate hate and intolerance.” The donation seemed to signal an intent to move past the controversy that began a week ago when Irving tweeted a link to the movie “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America.”
Kathy O’Neil, 68, told NBC News at a campaign stop in Erie that she felt Shapiro has "done so much for us." His support from law enforcement, including the Pennsylvania State Troopers Association and Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police — two groups that have endorsed Oz in the Senate race — stood out to her, too. (Mastriano, 58, has said Shapiro has a “grudge” against the church, while some Catholic organizations believe Shapiro went too far). To take on Shapiro, Mastriano has struggled greatly to raise money and draw financial support from outside Republican groups to boost his campaign. During a campaign stop in Clarion, Shapiro pledged to advocate for "forgotten" parts of the state.
Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets are contributing $500,000 each toward ‘causes and organizations that work to eradicate hate and intolerance.’Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets and the Anti-Defamation League said on Wednesday that the team and its star would contribute $500,000 each toward “causes and organizations that work to eradicate hate and intolerance,” an apparent effort to move past a controversy that has consumed the NBA after Irving tweeted a link to a movie with anti-Semitic themes and appeared to endorse its contents. The latest Irving drama began last week, when he shared a link to the Amazon Prime video page of the 2018 movie, “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America.” After the movie’s themes came to light, Nets owner Joe Tsai criticized Irving and condemned the film. Irving denied being anti-Semitic and protested that he had done nothing wrong before deleting the tweet.
