[1/5] Medieval coins that have been found during excavations, looking for the "first mile" of the Appian Way, the first and most important highway of ancient Rome, are seen in this undated handout image obtained by Reuters. Appius Claudius Caecus, a magistrate, started the Appian Way in the 4th century BC. Valenzani explained that pumps are working 24/7 to clear water from the digging site and allow exploration, but would not be powerful enough if the excavation were to go deeper. In a last bid to find traces of the Appian Way's founding stones, archaeologists will extract samples of what remains unexcavated via a core drill before covering up the site. Streaming services came up short at this year's Oscar nominations, announced on Tuesday. This year, it only has 15 — nine of which were for its one best-picture contender, "All Quiet on the Western Front." But the nominations also reflect the shifting streaming priorities for media and tech companies coming out of the pandemic. Only one of those four movies got an Oscar nomination — an adapted screenplay nod for "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery." Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone in "Killers of the Flower Moon," an Oscar contender for next year.

Atalanta were unable to find an equaliser before halftime but levelled two minutes after the break through midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, who smashed the ball home from a distance. Atalanta moved up to sixth spot, level on 31 points from 17 games with fifth-placed Lazio and AS Roma in seventh. How many?! Pele's astonishing goal record
  + stars: | 2022-12-29 | by ( Andrew Downie | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
FIFA put his overall total at more than 1,200 - over 1,000 of which came for his first club, Santos. Almost half of Pele's goals came in friendly matches – including games as an army conscript - and some argue they do not carry the same weight as goals scored in competitive matches. Barcelona celebrated in December 2020 when Messi scored his 644th goal for the Spanish club, surpassing the 643 competitive goals Pele scored for Santos. Two months later, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 768th goal, three more than Pele's total, including international goals. Pele sent his congratulations to both players but his supporters still argue the Brazilian's goal haul is superior because in Pele's day friendly matches were much more competitive than they are today.

8:30 p.m. Head to JuárezAfter the commotion of the Historic Center, go to Juárez for a quiet dinner at Amaya . Unlike some of the buzzier stalwarts of the city’s creative dining scene in Roma, Amaya is where locals linger over wine and conversation. It is the chef Jair Téllez’s second restaurant in the city (his first is Merotoro ), and his idiosyncratic take on Baja-Med cuisine is consistently excellent. The high-ceilinged dining room is accented with a colorful mural and vivid floor tiles. Dinner for two without wine, about 1,700 pesos.

Mexico City has seen an influx of people migrating to the historic metropolis, especially during the pandemic when remote work made it possible to work from different places. Currently, 1.6 million Americans live in Mexico, according to the State Department, and Mexico City is the fifth rated destination for digital nomads globally, according to nomadlist.com. He emphasized Mexico City isn’t cheap, but in comparison to other countries digital nomads are migrating from, it’s considerably more affordable. “If you’re making your salary in U.S. dollars, pounds, Canadian dollars, you’re better off living in Mexico City.” Romero said. He believes those areas with higher numbers of digital nomads are already economically out of reach for most of the locals.

Alves makes Brazil World Cup squad, Firmino left out

Nov 7 (Reuters) - Brazil have included 39-year-old defender Daniel Alves but left out Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino in their 26-man World Cup squad which was named by coach Tite on Monday. After leaving Barcelona at the end of last season, Alves went to Mexico to try to keep his dream of playing in his fourth World Cup with five-times champions Brazil. Alves has been working on his recovery with the Barcelona academy medical and technical staff over the last few weeks. According to Tite, Alves' long history with Brazil and leadership qualities in the changing room were valuable but not the main reason he got a spot in the squad. The squad and Tite will gather on Nov. 14 at Juventus' training facilities in Turin, where Brazil will hold a five-day training camp before flying to Doha on Nov. 19.
