Mohamed's decision to leave the consortium could reduce complications for the Texas-based company should U.S. authorities decide to levy sanctions on the pair or file an indictment. The construction of the shore base is part of Exxon’s efforts to expand oil production off Guyana’s coast, an important part of the company's growth plans. Following the Reuters report in July, Exxon had made an internal decision to remain neutral on the Mohameds, according to four sources with knowledge of the matter. A Canadian dollar coin, commonly known as the "Loonie", is pictured in this illustration picture taken in Toronto, January 23, 2015. "It's been dragged around with higher U.S. yields, that's for sure," said Amo Sahota, director at Klarity FX in San Francisco. "The U.S. dollar has been on an 11-week run to the upside, so that's not necessarily helping the loonie." Vincent's comments helped underpin Canadian bond yields, Sahota said, adding that the market is "still gunning for another rate hike" from the Canadian central bank. Canadian government bond yields surged across the curve, playing catch-up with moves in U.S. Treasuries after the Canadian market was closed on Monday.

SYDNEY, Oct 3 (Reuters) - A bushfire in Australia's Victoria state more than trebled overnight and authorities urged residents in a remote part of Tasmania state to evacuate as a spring heatwave fanned fires across the country's southeast. Across the Bass Strait in Tasmania state, residents on the northern edge of Flinders Island were told to evacuate from an out of control bushfire. Fires are being stoked by hot, dry winds across southeast as the country experiences an unseasonably hot spring. Australia began spring with its driest September on record, according to the Bureau of Meteorology, with rainfall 71% below the 1961-1990 average. Conditions are expected to change rapidly in Victoria Tuesday afternoon, with heavy rains expected to help douse fires but potentially trigger flash flooding.

WASHINGTON, Oct 2 (Reuters) - The Federal Communications Commission said on Monday it has issued its first space debris enforcement fine, of $150,000 for DISH (DISH.O) which failed to properly de-orbit its EchoStar-7 satellite. The wholly owned unit of DISH Network admitted liability and will adhere to a compliance plan, the commission said, adding that the company's action "could pose orbital debris concerns." FCC Enforcement Bureau Chief Loyaan Egal said Monday's announcement "is a breakthrough settlement, making very clear the FCC has strong enforcement authority and capability to enforce its vitally important space debris rules." In February 2022, DISH said "the satellite had very little propellant left, which meant it could not follow the original orbital debris mitigation plan in its license." The FCC in September 2022 voted to adopt new rules to address growing risks of orbital debris to space exploration by shrinking the time to remove defunct satellites.

Oct 2 (Reuters) - A look at the day ahead in Asian markets from Jamie McGeever, financial markets columnist. 10 Cuban migrants killed in Mexico truck accident, 17 injured

Oct 1 (Reuters) - At least 10 Cuban migrants died and 17 others were seriously injured when a cargo truck ferrying them had an accident in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, Mexico's migration institute said on Sunday. The accident took place along the Pacific coast stretch of the Pijijiapan-Tonalá highway in Chiapas, a common route taken by migrants who cross into Mexico from Guatemala on their way north towards the United States. The driver of the Ford truck, which is not designed to carry so many people, fled the scene of the accident, the National Migration Institute (INM) said in a statement. The 17 injured people were taken to hospitals and are being monitored, INM said. Road accidents involving migrants are not uncommon in Mexico, where many people crossing the country to the United States travel in unauthorized and poorly maintained vehicles.

UNITED NATIONS, Oct 1 (Reuters) - The United Nations Security Council is set to vote on Monday to approve the deployment of foreign police to Haiti and authorize the use of force to help the Caribbean country fight violent gangs that have largely overrun the capital Port-au-Prince. China wanted the resolution to state that Haiti had to notify the Security Council of the countries taking part in the mission before U.N. authorization would take effect. A Security Council resolution needs nine votes in favor and no vetoes to be adopted. The response to Haiti's request for help was delayed due to a struggle to find a country willing to lead a security assistance mission. The security assistance mission, while approved by the U.N. Security Council, would not be a United Nations operation.

Blue Origin must take 21 corrective actions before its reusable New Shepard rocket can return to flight, including a "redesign of engine and nozzle components to improve structural performance during operation as well as organizational changes," the FAA said. Crypto companies have been expanding in Washington to combat growing regulatory scrutiny, especially from the SEC which says the industry has been flouting its rules. "Everybody wants to make sure that what they're doing isn't going to be erased by the government," said Kara Calvert, head of U.S. policy at Coinbase, referring to the crypto industry. A House vote before year-end is possible, but the outlook is dimmer in the Senate, where industry-friendly crypto bills have failed to gain traction. And Senate Banking Committee Chair Sherrod Brown of Ohio has shown little interest in making it a priority to advance the House bills. "The last thing we need is for the crypto industry to write their own rulebook — too many Ohioans have been burned by fraud and scams," said Brown in a statement to Reuters.

Cain's Sept. 22 order had been celebrated by the oil and gas industry, which had sued in August alongside the state of Louisiana over an earlier decision by the Interior Department to scale back the auction. Representatives for the Interior Department, environmental groups, the Louisiana attorney general's office and the American Petroleum Institute did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Interior Department finalized plans for a reduced lease sale in August, after last year's Inflation Reduction Act mandated the auction move forward. The sale made about 67 million acres in the Gulf available for bids. Those groups had claimed the whales can be harmed or killed by oil spills, vessel strikes, noise, marine debris and other impacts of oil and gas exploration and development.
