Almost half of young women have at least a bachelor’s degree compared to 37% of young men. That compares to 2008, when Barack Obama won the votes of 66% of young men. One of the biggest financial pressure points for young men has been higher rents, which are up around 20% since 2020. Young men are more likely to be financially dependent on their parents compared to young women, with 74% of women describing themselves as mostly financially independent compared to 62% of young men, according to a Pew survey. I think Trump will do better with young men than among young women — the gap will be pretty significant in terms of voter support — but I don’t think Trump’s going to win an overwhelming majority.

Public officials even cautioned Floridians this week to beware of AI-generated images that falsely depict conditions on the ground. The inspiration for the hurricane rescue images meme format apparently stems from a viral post from a public official on X, who shared a fake image of a child crying while holding a puppy with a flooded backdrop amid Hurricane Helene, which some recirculated as if it were real. Disputes across the country are brewing over the role of local election boards and how much power they have to question – or even throw out – election results. In Georgia, for instance, Trump-backed members of the state election board recently passed controversial rules that could allow local election boards responsible for certifying results to conduct investigations that threaten to delay certification. One of the Georgia rules, the “Reasonable Inquiry Rule,” would allow election officials to conduct a “reasonable inquiry” before certifying election results. The petitioners in the case argue that the rule would give partisan board members a wide ability to cast doubt on, or even reject, election results. In some cases, the threat of legal action has been enough to deter officials from pursuing challenges to the certification process.
