If it feels like the Baltimore Orioles have accomplished something historic these past couple years, there are some numbers that back that up. That was the New York Giants, way back at the beginning of the modern era. But Baltimore, which clinched a playoff berth Sunday, could still join the Giants with an improvement of over .300. There's actually a Baltimore connection to those New York Giants. The Baltimore franchise then moved to New York and became the Highlanders, who would eventually be called the Yankees.

September 16 - The Miami Marlins, who are set to host the Atlanta Braves on Saturday, are perhaps the most improved team in the National League. Soler, who leads Miami with 35 homers, hasn't played since Sept. 5, but he has been taking batting practice. I don’t believe in drinking seasonally. I believe in eating seasonally, and that largely dictates which wines I drink. With fresh vegetables in hot weather, and with plenty of seafood, I tend to pick lighter wines, not always white but mostly. It’s not so much a matter of color but of weight, which encompasses the full spectrum of wines. But weight does often correlate with color, and that’s where the specious shorthand, “reds in winter, whites and rosés in summer,” may have originated.

September 14 - The New York Mets' three-game sweep at Arizona in early July helped send the Diamondbacks into a spiral that nearly ruined their season. The visiting Diamondbacks will look to salvage an important split of a four-game series Thursday afternoon when they face the Mets in the final clash of the season between the teams. "We can't do anything other than come out and win a baseball game (Thursday) and split the series," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. The nine-game skid completed a 7-25 stretch dating back to July 2 -- two days before the Mets earned an 8-5 win in the opener of a three-game series in Phoenix. Senga also didn't factor into the decision on Friday after giving up two runs over six innings in the Mets' 5-2 loss at Minnesota.

The Rays have 20 games to go and sit four games back of the first-place Baltimore Orioles in the competitive American League East. "I think everybody is just focused because we need to win and win no matter what," Ramirez said. But if the Mariners continue to falter and frustration continues to build, it could derail some of the success that Seattle has established throughout the season. Rays right-hander Aaron Civale (7-3, 2.76 ERA) is set to make his 20th start of the season. Mariners right-hander Luke Weaver (2-5, 6.71 ERA) likely will receive the bulk of the workload as the bullpen looks to fill nine innings.

Dark RedsNot a particularly helpful designation as color in red wines can mean little. The assumption is that the darker the color the denser and more tannic the wine, but it’s not true. One exception with color: Young reds will be brighter while well-aged wines will seem duller and paler around the edges. It’s both the oldest method and newly fashionable, and produces somewhat simple wines that can be fresh and delicious. Last is the tank method, used for inexpensive sparkling wines produced in quantity, like Prosecco.

Klopp praises fired-up Nunez after Liverpool comeback victory

The 24-year-old Uruguayan has been out of favour so far this season, but his late brace against the Magpies showcased the best of his qualities and he will get more chances, Klopp told Sky Sports. "Definitely, a striker scores two goals and you can see he gets a smile on his face, and rightly so. But for the team, it was super-important that they got something like that, you need these kinds of things to grow together," Klopp added. Back-to-back single-goal defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool will leave Newcastle playing catch-up in the league, and manager Eddie Howe said it will be a challenge to pick his players up again. The two we lost were lost by the narrowest of margins, and they were against the best two teams in the Premier League," he added.

Paris CNN —The French government and the European Union will spend 200 million euros ($215 million) to help the country’s wine producers, who are struggling to cope with falling prices and waning demand. High demand for the voluntary buyback program, which was announced in June, prompted authorities to stretch its budget to $200 million, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement Friday. France was, as of 2020, the world’s second-biggest wine producer and its biggest wine exporter. EU wine exports from January to April this year are also 8.5% lower than last. The French government is also encouraging wine growers to look to alternative crops to cope with climate change and changing market forces.
