It was the annual Kukur Puja festival in Nepal on Thursday, and dogs across the nation were draped in marigold garlands, marked with celebratory vermillion pigment and presented with overflowing platters of treats. Like Diwali in India, the five-day Hindu festival of Tihar, being celebrated this week in Nepal, is a festival of lights. Unlike Diwali, Tihar includes the worship of creatures, and Kukur Puja, on its second day, is dedicated to dogs. According to Hindu mythology, dogs are the messengers of Yamaraj, the god of death. All dogs, including pets, strays and working dogs, are worshipped.

Australian golfer Jeffrey Guan has vowed to return to the sport and “conquer any obstacle” after he was struck in the face by a golf ball and completely lost sight in his left eye. “The instant ringing and pain rushed to my head, and I dropped to the ground,” Guan wrote. Any activity that required energy, including walking and eating, would leave him in “excruciating pain,” he wrote. Though he missed the cut, “just competing in the event was a massive accomplishment,” Golf Magazine wrote. He had recently signed a deal with Sportfive, a sports marketing company based in Germany that also represents Spanish professional golfer Jon Rahm.

Comcast's Mike Cavanagh said the company will explore ditching its cable networks. AdvertisementComcast said this week it might separate from its cable networks and marry off its streaming service. Mike Cavanagh, Comcast's president, floated the idea Thursday of spinning out cable networks like CNBC and MSNBC into a new firm while holding on to NBC. Several industry analysts said that Comcast could increase its valuation by divorcing itself from its declining cable networks, as it would help emphasize its burgeoning streaming business. "The cable networks likely have little value on their own.

Rent costs have long weighed on lower-income households — now it’s coming for the middle class. A cost-burdened household is defined as one paying 30% or more of pretax income on rent and housing costs. This figure is widely used as a threshold for affordability: the Census Bureau measures housing costs against it, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development has used it for decades. While nearly 40% of middle-class renters are burdened by costs nationwide, in Tennessee that figure is 37%, placing it among the upper half of states with the largest share of cost-burdened middle-class renters. The growing pressure on middle-class renters may finally be spurring political action.
