WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal brought by X, Elon Musk's social media company, declining to decide whether prosecutors should have been able to obtain data from former President Donald Trump's Twitter account without him being notified. The case arose as part of special counsel Jack Smith's investigation into Trump over alleged election interference in 2020, which the Supreme Court stymied earlier this year by ruling that presidents have broad immunity from prosecution for official acts taken in office. Smith has already obtained the data at issue in the appeal brought by X, as Twitter is now known following Musk's takeover of the social media company. A federal judge approved the warrant, as well as a nondisclosure order that prevents X from telling Trump or anyone else about it.

A scorching streak in Phoenix has set new daily records for 10 straight days during an October heat wave sweeping much of the West. The forecast calls for this streak of broken records to potentially reach up to 16 days in a row. The current record at a U.S. climate station for the number of consecutive daily record highs is 14 from Burlington, Iowa, recorded during the Dust Bowl in 1936. Dozens more October monthly record highs were set Thursday in states such as Kansas and Nebraska. That demand has persisted even as office construction has been stifled by higher interest rates and inflation, which have pushed up costs. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The man accused of plotting to kill Donald Trump at the former president's Florida golf course eariler this month pleaded not guilty to all charges on Monday. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, wore a beige inmate’s outfit with a dark brown undershirt during his brief appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce E. Reinhart. Ryan Wesley Routh following his arrest in Martin County, Fla., on Sept. 15. A Secret Service agent spotted Routh with a gun outside of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach and opened fire on him before Routh had Trump in his sights. ☆ Man accused of second attempted Trump assassination pleads not guilty

Ryan Wesley Routh faces five charges including the assassination attempt, gun charges and assaulting an officer. Routh was allegedly spotted by a Secret Service agent who was running surveillance ahead of Trump. Routh allegedly fled the area in a car and was arrested by local police less than an hour later on a nearby highway. One piece of information prosecutors have cited is a letter Routh allegedly left with a witness who came forward after Routh was arrested. “This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you,” Routh allegedly wrote.

CNN —The man who allegedly claimed he had C4 explosives in his car and sped through a security checkpoint at Donald Trump’s rally in Michigan over the weekend pleaded not guilty to charges against him on Monday. Steven William Nauta has been charged with four state counts, including making a false threat of terrorism and being in possession of bomb-making materials. He has pleaded not guilty to each count, according to a court official. A bond of $1 million was set for Nauta during his arraignment Monday, according to a court official, and was placed under house arrest. The charges against Nauta note that the fertilizer he allegedly removed from his vehicle can be used to make explosives.

Oran Alexander Routh was charged in federal court Monday with one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. The criminal complaint filed against Oran Routh states that his North Carolina home was searched in connection to an unrelated case.
