David Zaslav wanted a new president that was open to M&A. And we still don't know if Trump will have problems with specific deals — like he did when AT&T wanted to buy Time Warner. The second version of the Trump administration may be a boon for media companies facing "generational disruption," the Warner Bros. With his comeback victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the books, Trump can rest easy. But he has not yet escaped from liability in a handful of high-profile civil cases, where he has been ordered to pay combined penalties of over $570 million. "In theory, there should be no effect" from Trump's election on those civil matters, former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani told CNBC. "It's well established that while a sitting president can't be prosecuted, he can face civil cases," Rahmani said. A state-level criminal case in Georgia, alleging Trump illegally meddled in that state's 2020 election, is also on ice.

The West WingOne of Trump’s most important picks will be his White House chief of staff. Karoline Leavitt, who was Trump’s campaign spokeswoman, is being considered as White House press secretary – a job that typically is the most public-facing position in the White House. National security postsTrump has suggested his national security team would be tasked with reassessing the United States’ posture toward Ukraine and Russia, China, Iran, and the simmering conflict in the Middle East. The debate over a renewed Trump’s “America First” agenda is expected to pit Republican national security hawks against the party’s isolationist wing. Secretary of state and national security adviser will be among the most hard-fought positions to stand at the forefront of those shifts.

Since it is a state case, Trump does not have the power to pardon himself next year after he is sworn into office. Federal cases in DC and FloridaTrump’s election victory is poised to have the greatest impact on the two federal criminal cases brought against him by Smith in Washington, DC, and Florida. Dismissing Smith would allow the Department of Justice and Trump’s attorney general to move to drop the charges against him and end the court cases. In the DC case, Smith charged Trump over his efforts to overturn his election loss in 2020. As Americans cast their votes in a history-making presidential race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, CNBC's Jim Cramer explained that few sectors are currently obvious winners or losers under either candidate's administration. "This presidential prognostication game is meaningless until we start hearing about cabinet appointments, those will tell us a lot," he said. Cramer first looked at tech giant Apple , noting that under the Biden administration it's facing an antitrust lawsuit from the Department of Justice. Trump has promised to significantly raise tariffs, especially on goods coming in from China. "When it comes to many stocks that seem obvious for one candidate or another, there's a Yin and Yang dynamic that doesn't get enough attention," Cramer said.

The Trump campaign and surrogates began filing lawsuits the very same day, challenging the results on a variety of grounds well before the final votes were counted. In Arizona, voters and the Trump campaign filed a lawsuit alleging thousands of people in Maricopa County had their ballots disqualified because of ink-bleed caused by Sharpies. In Wisconsin, Trump filed a lawsuit alleging widespread voter fraud and demanding a recount, which ultimately reaffirmed Joe Biden’s victory in the state. Giuliani has been disbarred in New York and D.C., indicted in Georgia and Arizona and has been ordered to turn over his Manhattan apartment and other property to two Georgia election workers he defamed. And dozens of ethics complaints against local attorneys who filed election challenges are still pending nationwide.

Then, a week before the shooting, Sawchak allegedly stood outside the Moturis’ home with a firearm and pointed the gun at Davis through the window, according to prosecutors. On October 23, Sawchak allegedly shot Moturi in the neck from his second-floor window. Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris speaks during a campaign rally at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, Oct. 25, 2024. But what could Harris actually do to support abortion access in a post-Roe landscape? Even so, she said, a Harris administration could increase the availability of medication abortions and, crucially, it could fight Republican and activist attempts to further limit reproductive rights. A Harris administration would not enforce the Comstock Act, a controversial federal law passed in 1873 that bans the mailing of obscene matter. "A Harris administration wouldn't be able to change what the Supreme Court is saying, but it could de-prioritize those prosecutions," Ziegler said.

Those rules were designed to prevent a repeat of the abuses of Richard Nixon, who improperly used the Justice Department to punish his political enemies. Over the past seven decades, Puerto Rico has been governed by the pro-statehood New Progressive Party, currently in office held by Gov. This year, however, the candidate from the Puerto Rican Independence Party, a minority party that advocates for the island’s independence from the U.S., has had a breakthrough. Independence Party candidate Juan Dalmau has gained enough momentum to have a fighting chance at defeating Jenniffer Gonzalez, the candidate from the incumbent pro-statehood party, and relegating the candidate from the Popular Democratic Party, Jesús Manuel Ortiz, to third place. As a result, Congress passed the PROMESA law in 2016 to create a federally appointed fiscal oversight board to allow Puerto Rico to restructure its debt. In addition to this, Puerto Rico was hit by devastating natural disasters that include 2017’s Hurricane María and a series of earthquakes in 2020 and the pandemic.

Cuomo also denied having discussions about the July 6 report being peer reviewed, according to the panel, which said documents show otherwise. Agents might be emboldened to share listings among private networks of in-the-know brokers rather than market them to everyone. And if the goal is a transparent market that prioritizes consumers, the clear-cooperation policy is a flawed tool. Redfin estimated that in the second quarter of 2019, about 1.7% of listings, or some 18,000 homes, were likely pocketed. In a hot market, it's easier for brokers to market a home off the databases and still get it sold. What has changed since the rule went into effect is brokerages' eagerness to control access to home listings.

But new research suggests that one English woman convicted of witchcraft and condemned to be hanged may have escaped the noose. Alice Molland – who has long held the tragic record of being the last woman in England to be hanged as a “witch” – was sentenced to death in 1685. In June 1685, Avis Molland – by now widowed – emerges in court records as an informant about a potential revolt, at a time when the Duke of Monmouth was attempting a rebellion against the king. WASHINGTON — Speaking to a federal judge in July 2019, a flummoxed career Justice Department lawyer made a statement that summed up former President Donald Trump’s shoot-from-the-hip and often chaotic form of governance. The move put Justice Department lawyers in a quandary, led to the entire legal team’s being replaced and still ended in defeat when, just days later, the administration backed down. And there is little to suggest a second term would be any different. “I tend to think the past is prologue,” said a lawyer who served in a senior position in the Trump administration. “What we are preparing for in the chance of a second Trump administration is that, frankly, the legal maneuvers they would try to do would be better organized,” he said.

For Democrats, President Joe Biden dominated the primaries and faced only token opposition. Vice President Kamala Harris speaks as former President Donald Trump listens during a presidential debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on September 10, 2024. Trump was accused by the Justice Department of election interference after he tried to overturn the 2020 election results. The most populous states are California (54 electoral votes), Texas (40 electoral votes) and Florida (30 electoral votes). The total number of electoral votes, 538, is an even number, which means a tie is conceivable.
