Engoron asked Trump if he would like to be on the witness stand. Trump didn’t hesitate, pushing back his seat at the defense table instantly to stand and walk into the witness box. Once Trump was on the stand, Engoron put on his lawyer hat and launched into a calm interrogation of the former president, reading back what Trump had told reporters outside the courtroom only hours earlier. “You and Cohen,” Trump said. “We won this trial,” Trump said before leaving the hallway.

The post was removed from Truth Social right after the gag order was issued but not from Trump’s campaign website, DonaldJTrump.com. “It appears no one also took down the ICYMI link that’s in the campaign website in the back pages,” Kise said. “There was no intention to evade, or circumvent, or ignore the order,” Kise added and explained nothing further has been posted on Trump’s Truth Social website. The judge said at the time failure to abide by the order would result in serious sanctions. “Requiring Ms. Trump, a non-party, nondomiciliary, to appear at trial in New York and provide live testimony without any limitations is unreasonable.

CNN —US leaders are mounting an urgent effort to prevent Israel’s war against Hamas and a resulting civilian catastrophe in Gaza from escalating into a widening regional conflict that could snowball into an even greater geopolitical crisis after this month’s horrific attacks. If we look at the issue of water – we all know water is life – Gaza is running out of water, and Gaza is running out of life,” Lazzarini said. Hamas has urged civilians to ignore Israeli warnings to evacuate the northern part of Gaza. Back in Washington, the administration is expected to offer a full classified briefing on the situation to senators Wednesday. “Whether it is 24 hours, 48 hours, whether it is by next week, the fact is, it’s coming,” he said.

Then America's deep political divisions surfaced with a vengeance, with politicians blaming political foes for the crisis, and others turning the terrorist attack into a judgment of Israel, its government, Jews in general and the plight of the Palestinian people. Later, Trump extended his jabs at U.S. ally Israel, saying in a campaign speech that the country's defense minister was "a jerk." Trump also said Hezbollah, another designated terrorist group in Lebanon is "very smart," angering U.S. and Israeli officials alike. Some progressives are pushing back at fellow members of the Democratic Socialists of America, who have been holding pro-Palestinian rallies just days after the Hamas attack. "Some are using really over-the-top rhetoric to try to score political points against the Biden administration.

The American people must understand just how shocking and gruesome Hamas’ actions were, Biden told his aides. But should the vote drag on in the intensely divided chamber, some lawmakers warn that efforts to provide assistance to Israel amid the conflict would be stymied. Since McCarthy’s ouster, two candidates have formally announced their bid for the speakership – House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana and Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio. Accordingly, questions about the role of Rep. Patrick McHenry, who stepped in as “speaker pro tempore” after McCarthy’s historic ouster, have begun circulating. The position is widely considered to be a placeholder with the primary function of helping the chamber to elect a new speaker. But some experts have argued the House can vote on resolutions, like one condemning Hamas, without a speaker.

Military promotions, including for the chief of naval operations, have been held up by a single senator because of abortion policy. "It could make our response significantly less effective" and imperil aid to both Israel and Ukraine. That followed the sending of a U.S. aircraft carrier strike group and military aircraft closer to Israel as a show of support. The United States is also supplying Israel with munitions and other military supplies, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said. “You call it Girl Math, we call it the Labor Day sale,” a recent promotion from clothing brand Lane Bryant read. From this tangle of overly serious criticism and brand interference, the idea of “girl math” stretched far past its original intent. CNN —Judge Arthur Engoron rebuked Donald Trump after the former president attacked his clerk in a social media post on Tuesday and forbade the parties from making any future comments about his staff. Trump looked straight ahead at the judge as he issued the order. The New York attorney general is seeking to bar Trump from doing business in the state. Monday, Trump also went after the clerk in his comments outside the courtroom, though he didn’t mention her by name. The post, which Trump included as an image in his own Truth Social post, did not allege that the clerk was Schumer’s girlfriend, merely that the two were “palling around.” Trump added the baseless “girlfriend” claim.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, whose trailblazing career embodied the rise of women in politics, the movement for gun safety and, finally, a determination to keep serving her California constituents despite illness and advancing age, has died. In the past two years, it was apparent Feinstein was having memory issues, and sometimes appeared befuddled on Capitol Hill. Tributes from lawmakers in both parties flowed Friday morning, as somber Senate lawmakers mourned the loss of their colleague. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat and House speaker emeritus, sat in the Senate gallery, listening to the tearful tributes with Feinstein's daughter, Katherine. Sen. Passage of the full-year appropriations bills themselves, chock-full of conservative priorities and spending cuts that are nonstarters in the Senate, would not avert a shutdown this week. The Senate’s continuing resolution would keep funding at current levels until Nov. 17, along with appropriating around $6 billion in aid to Ukraine and $6 billion for domestic disaster relief. “By constantly adhering to what the hard-right wants, you’re aiming for a shutdown,” the New York Democrat said. Moreso, the legislation, despite having backing from a number of Senate Republicans, may face headwinds in the House. And whether House leadership even moves to bring the bill to the House floor should it pass the Senate remains an open question.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul speaks during a campaign rally with other New York Democrats, in Yonkers, New York, U.S., November 6, 2022. The 340 mile (547 km) transmission line is a proposed underwater and underground high-voltage direct current power transmission line to deliver the power from Quebec, Canada, to Queens, New York City. The converter station for the line will be the first-ever transformation of a fossil fuel site into a grid-scale zero-emission facility in New York City, its backers say. Once the construction is completed, it will convert 1,250 megawatts of energy from direct current to alternating current power that will be fed directly into the state's power grid. The converter station is a step towards New York’s target for 70% of the state’s electricity to come from renewable sources by 2030.
