NEW YORK, May 10 (Reuters) - Shares of Robinhood Markets Inc (HOOD.O) were last up 2.4% in extended trading after the company beat quarterly revenue forecasts and confirmed it would launch 24-hour trading services. Of the 14 analysts covering the stock, three recommend "buy," seven say "hold," and the remaining four have "sell" ratings. CNBC Daily Open brings investors up to speed on everything they need to know, no matter where they are. Broader markets were boosted by April's jobs report, which showed a higher-than-expected increase in jobs growth and an unemployment rate of 3.4% — a record low since 1969. Recall January's jobs report: There were 517,000 new jobs in December, almost three times the forecast. A strong jobs market increases the probability that the U.S. economy can tame inflation without contracting too severely. Foxconn struck a deal in November to take a near-20% stake in the money-losing U.S. firm for up to $170 million. It has since invested $52.7 million and is balking at purchasing additional shares, citing a breach of their agreement, Lordstown said. "There is substantial doubt regarding our ability to continue as a going concern," Lordstown said in a filing, referring to its dispute with Foxconn over the investment deal. Their course of conduct has resulted in material — and what is becoming irreparable — harm to the company," Lordstown said in a statement. Lordstown shares, which at one point tumbled more than 50% on Monday, closed down 23%, or 12 cents, at 40 cents, in heavy trading.

May 1 (Reuters) - Lordstown Motors (RIDE.O) shares plunged 48% Monday after major shareholder Foxconn alleged it breached their $170 million investment deal and the electric truck maker warned it might be forced to file for bankruptcy. Lordstown warned in a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Monday that "there is substantial doubt regarding our ability to continue as a going concern." Without a resolution with Foxconn, other funding or new partners, it could be forced to file for bankruptcy or cease operations, it added. Lordstown shares were trading mid-afternoon at 27 cents, down 25 cents. Lordstown Motors bought a former General Motors Co (GM.N) small car assembly plant and equipment for $20 million in Ohio after the Detroit automaker closed it in March 2019.

April 27 (Reuters) - Russian tech giant Yandex (YNDX.O) on Thursday reported a 54% jump in first-quarter revenue to 163.3 billion roubles ($2 billion) and a return to profitability after sliding to a net loss in the same period last year. Since Russia despatched troops to Ukraine in February 2022, Yandex - often dubbed "Russia's Google" - has struggled to balance domestic pressure with the interests of its Western investors. Yandex last year reported a net loss of 8.1 billion roubles in the first quarter of 2022. Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google stopped selling online advertising in Russia last March while keeping some free services available, allowing Yandex to gain market share. Yandex said its search and portal market share averaged 63.3% in the quarter, up from 61% a year ago.

An unholy trinity of U.S. developments on Tuesday - poor corporate earnings, a bank's value going up in smoke and slumping consumer confidence - will likely set an extremely gloomy tone for Asian markets on Wednesday. The wider U.S. regional banking index's 4% slide - its fourth straight decline - took its year-to-date decline to 25%. If there is a tailwind for Asian markets on Wednesday amid the headwinds it will be the after-hours results from Google's parent company Alphabet GOOGL.O and Microsoft .MSFT.O.

Nasdaq profit beats as market volatility bolsters trading

April 19 (Reuters) - Nasdaq Inc's (NDAQ.O) first-quarter profit beat Wall Street estimates on Wednesday as increased market volatility boosted trading and helped mitigate a hit to the indexing business of the Transatlantic-exchange operator. Trading volumes rose as investors rejigged their portfolios in response to slowdown worries due to a sharp rise in interest rates, persistently high inflation and the banking crisis. Nasdaq's net trading services revenue rose 1% to $267 million, helped by strong growth in North America that offset the decline in European trading. The New York-based company had in the last quarter reorganized its corporate structure into three divisions — market platforms, capital access platforms and anti-financial crime. Reuters GraphicsThe company's net revenue, excluding transaction-based expenses, rose 2% to $914 million.
British EV startup Arrival announces reverse stock split

April 11 (Reuters) - British EV startup Arrival SA said on Tuesday its shareholders, on April 6, approved a reverse stock split at a ratio of one-for-fifty to gain compliance with Nasdaq's listing regulations. Arrival's stock fell about 8% to $0.13 in trading before the bell. The reverse stock split will be effective on April 14. Last week Arrival said it would merge with blank-check firm Kensington Capital Acquisition Corp V (KCGI.N). The special purpose acquisition company had about $283 million in cash held in trust, that will contribute to the business, Arrival had said.
After the worst year for tech since 2008 , many investors questioned whether the market could move higher in the new year without the sector's cooperation. Names such as Apple , Microsoft and Amazon gained about 27%, 20% and 23% in the first quarter, respectively, as yields pushed lower. Amid this backdrop, Alphabet shares gained 17.6% in the first quarter as the company launched it's Bard chatbot rival. Not all investors view big tech so optimistically heading into the new quarter. Much of the surge in tech stocks stems from the oversold conditions created during 2022's carnage, positioning many of these stocks for a bounce, Meeks said.
April 3 (Reuters) - A look at the day ahead in Asian markets from Alden Bentley. Asia's data calendar across the rest of the week otherwise looks fairly tame and the main economic event for global markets will be U.S. payrolls data on Friday. So given the number of markets that are closed on, or before, Friday, the week could bring surprises of a pleasant, or not pleasant, variety. But any surprise headlines, be they OPEC or bank related, will have to be digested by thinned markets, which can bring excessive market swings. This week will bring CPI releases from Indonesia on Monday, South Korea on Tuesday and Thailand and the Philippines on Wednesday.

The Nasdaq 100 just flashed a "sell" signal for the first time since November 2021, according to Fairlead Strategies. The sell signal suggests the stock market will soon roll over, leading to a return of strength in defensive sectors. Outperformance in utilities and health care stocks "would be naturally associated with the next market downdraft," Fairlead's Katie Stockton said. The sell signal was generated on Monday via the Tom DeMark Sequential indicator, which generated a counter-trend "13" sell signal. "The implications of the '13 sell' signal are for a two-week pullback in the Nasdaq 100, but sometimes they yield more lasting reversals."

The recent comeback in technology stocks is beginning to lose its luster, and that could mean trouble for the broader market. "We think the clock is ticking on tech's absolute and relative performance, and expect it to catch-down to the rest of the market," Krinsky wrote. That's created a resistance range between 12,881 and 12,944 and a first support level within the 12,466-12,400 range. Suttmeier also sees promise in the fact that the Nasdaq has held support within range of its 11,695 mid-March low and 12,000. "If the NDX continues to hold this support, the US equity market can stabilize and build a bigger base," he wrote.
Russia's Ozon appeals Nasdaq delisting plan

Nasdaq suspended trading in the securities of a number of companies operating in Russia on Feb. 28, 2022, days after Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine. Last week, the exchange notified a handful of Russian companies of delisting plans. "On March 21, Ozon filed an appeal against Nasdaq's decision on the compulsory delisting of the company's American depositary shares (ADSs)," Ozon said in a statement. "No matter how this plays out, the delisting decision has no impact whatsoever on the company's operations and does not affect its financial stability," Ozon said. Ozon raised nearly $1 billion in an initial public offering (IPO) in late 2020, a debut that sparked a mini-IPO boom for Russian firms.

Spacecraft engine manufacturer and small rocket builder Astra on Thursday outlined a plan to avoid having its stock delisted from the Nasdaq. In its plan, Astra also noted the possibility of conducting a reverse stock split to get back into compliance with Nasdaq's listing standards. A reverse split does not affect the fundamentals of a company, as it is not dilutive to the stock and does not change the company's valuation, but it would lift the stock price by combining shares. Functionally, a reverse split, often done as a 1-for-10, would mean a $3 stock, for example, would become $30 a share. "Astra continues to actively monitor our listing status and intends to preserve our Nasdaq listing," Martinez wrote.
March 14 (Reuters) - A look at the day ahead in Asian markets from Jamie McGeever. A week ago Barclays economists raised their forecast for the Fed's March 21-22 meeting to a 50 basis point rate hike from 25 bps. Rates futures markets show traders now reckon the Fed is done raising rates and will cut by 50 bps later this year. The implied 'terminal' rate has plunged more than 100 bps since last week to 4.35%, and the year-end implied rate has plummeted more than 150 bps to 3.90%. World stocks fell on Monday and are now down five days in a row, the longest losing streak since October.
