KATHMANDU, Nepal — Five Russian climbers who have been missing on Nepal's Mount Dhaulagiri since the weekend were found dead on the world’s seventh tallest mountain, their hiking company said on Tuesday. There had been no contact with the climbers, scaling the 8,167-meter (26,795-feet) peak without Sherpa guides, since Sunday night, when they reached a height of 7,700 meters (25,262 feet). "They might have been tied to the same rope," said Pemba, who goes by his first name. "One of them could have slipped on the slope and all five fell together." Mountain climbing in a key tourism activity in Nepal, home to eight of the world's 14 highest mountains, providing crucial employment and income.

CNN —Five members of a Russian expedition who went missing while attempting to climb Mount Dhaulagiri have been found dead, Russia’s embassy in Nepal told CNN on Tuesday. Initial investigations suggested the group of Russian mountaineers died “as a result of falling down a slope,” the embassy said. Dhaulagiri – which translates from Sanskrit to mean “White Mountain” - is the world’s seventh-highest peak, standing 8,167 meters (26,795 ft) above sea level, in the Himalayas in central Nepal. The fatality rate of Dhaulagiri is slightly more than 16%, making it one of the most dangerous mountains to climb. The Russian Mountaineering Federation told CNN that the trip was organized by a private organization.

Starboard believes that Pfizer's current leadership, under CEO Albert Bourla, has stepped away from historically disciplined cost structure and investment in novel drugs. One particularly concerning example to Starboard was Pfizer's acquisition of Global Blood Therapeutics. WASHINGTON — A group of national security experts led by Cabinet members from the Trump administration endorsed former President Donald Trump on Wednesday, citing his foreign policy record and calling him "a peacemaker." CNN —The Las Vegas Aces’ quest for a three-peat is close to an end as they went down 88-84 against the New York Liberty in Game 2 of the WNBA semifinals. The win gave the Liberty a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series with Sabrina Ionescu scoring a joint game-high 24 points to put the Aces on the brink. For the Aces, a disappointing second quarter, in which they were outscored 24-13, saw their early lead slip away, and they had given up 20 points off turnovers by the half. “Let me be mad at the refs, let me be mad at the New York Liberty, I don’t want to be mad at ourselves,” head coach Becky Hammon told reporters. In Tuesday’s other game, the Minnesota Lynx leveled their series with a 77-70 win over the Connecticut Sun in Minneapolis.

Mount Everest is astoundingly tall at 29,032 feet above sea level, besting its Himalayan neighbors by hundreds of feet. But the world’s tallest peak is still growing, scientists say, thanks in part to the merger of two nearby river systems tens of thousands of years ago. Everest has gained between about 50 and 160 feet as a result of that merger, researchers revealed in a study published Monday in the journal Nature Geoscience. Researchers also say this could explain why Everest is unusually tall, reaching nearly 800 feet higher than its neighbors. “While not entirely revolutionary, these findings are certainly surprising,” Dai said, adding that they could lead to a re-examination of current models of Himalayan formation and evolution.

In Monday's edition of the Homestretch , we said we were debating adding to our position in Coterra Energy , a disciplined driller that balances oil and natural gas production based on commodity prices. As of Monday's close, Coterra shares were only $1.33 off their 52-week low on Sept.10. We haven't been fans of energy stocks all year, but we always say we've kept Coterra in the portfolio to hedge against geopolitical risk.
