A new regulatory rule finalized this month by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau aims to reduce that hassle and make it easier, more secure and always free for customers to switch accounts or to simply transfer or share their financial data from their banks, credit card issuers and other financial service providers upon request. “The problem the CFPB (rule) is addressing is the paperwork required of consumers to change accounts. Financial providers must make this information available without charging fees.”The rule will also restrict how third parties may use and retain the data consumers request be shared. Banks push backThe banking industry wasted no time in expressing its displeasure with the new rule — known as the personal financial data rights rule. “Dodd-Frank only requires banks to provide financial data to consumers.

DPRK stands for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, North Korea's official name. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea could have tested a new, solid-fueled long-range ballistic missile. He said the North Korean missile was launched on a high angle, apparently to avoid neighboring countries. They say North Korea likely possesses short-range missiles that can deliver nuclear strikes across all of South Korea. North Korea last test-fired an intercontinental ballistic missile in December 2023, when it launched the solid-fueled Hwasong-18.

Samsung Electronics on Thursday reported third-quarter sales and operating profit slightly above its own expectations, but its chip business posted a sharply lower profit from the previous quarter. The semiconductor unit reported third-quarter operating profit of 3.86 trillion won (about $2.8 billion), down 40% from the previous quarter. While its memory chip unit benefited by strong demand for its artificial intelligence and conventional server products, Samsung said "inventory adjustments negatively impacted mobile demand." While artificial intelligence drove demand for advanced nodes from its foundry unit, Samsung said mobile and PC demand underperformed. Here are Samsung's results compared with the guidance it issued earlier this month:Revenue : 79.1 trillion won vs. 79 trillion: 79.1 trillion won vs. 79 trillion Operating profit: 9.18 trillion vs. 9.1 trillion wonThose guidance figures were markedly lower than the LSEG estimate for 11.456 trillion won in operating profit.

Starting next week, Starbucks customers will no longer pay more for adding non-dairy milk to their orders. The company said the removal of the non-dairy milk surcharge means customers who request it will pay around 10% less than they did previously. Orders with milk substitutions have proliferated at Starbucks in recent years, alongside non-dairy alternatives in grocery stores. Non-dairy milk has become the second most common order modification at Starbucks, behind adding a shot of espresso. Retail investors have increasingly focused in on Trump Media & Technology , Rumble and Phunware as stocks that can benefit if the Republican presidential nominee for president prevails. Trump Media & Technology, which owns the alternative social media platform TruthSocial, trades under a ticker — DJT — that's also the initials for the business mogul-turned-politician. On Tuesday alone, retail traders were net buyers of Trump Media to the tune of $14.4 million. Schwarz said there's no reason for Trump Media to even be publicly traded given its business fundamentals and high price-to-sales ratio. "Trump Media has no fundamental value — it's worthless," he said.

Niccol's overarching message: A bunch of changes, both big and small, are coming to Starbucks' menu, mobile app and stores that should satisfy all parties involved. Starbucks stock didn't do much in the five sessions since then, ending Wednesday at $97.32 a share. Starbucks is far from a quick fix, but Niccol on Wednesday night demonstrated that the optimism may not be misplaced. As for mobile orders, which account for more than 30% of transactions, the CEO said Starbucks will tweak its algorithm so that it provides specific pickup times to customers. Investors are hoping Starbucks' stock returns are reminiscent of that tenure, too.

Bottom line The main part of our AMD thesis — fast-growing sales of its MI300 AI chips — is still on track, so we view the post-earnings pullback as a buying opportunity. Given how integral these AI chips are to AMD's growth, we were pleased management on Tuesday night raised its full-year sales projections to exceeding $5 billion. Another factor: AMD's chips passed some performance milestones with customers, Su said. We believe Su's AI roadmap — outlined at its AI event earlier this month — will lead to significant sales growth in 2025 and thereafter. Quarterly commentary Sales in AMD's all-important data-center segment came in $3.55 billion, exceeding estimates and more than doubling year over year.

Several analysts maintained their buy ratings ahead of the results and expect AI-driven gains to appear in its search and YouTube segments. Still, the consensus revenue estimate implies Alphabet could post its slowest year-over-year growth since the third quarter of 2023 . Analysts polled by LSEG expect Alphabet to earn $1.85 per share on $86.3 billion in revenue, implying year-over-year earnings and revenue growth of 19.1% and 12.5%, respectively. Like Sheridan, Black expects Alphabet's AI enhancements to support search and YouTube growth, as AI drives efficiency for advertisers. "While advertisers may express some concerns around consumer sentiment, GOOG Search remains a 'utility-like' component of advertiser budgets," he said.

A post on Oct. 9 falsely claimed the U.S. federal government was denying disaster relief funds to Americans. Influencers linked to China have also seized on divisive material about Hurricanes Helene and Milton, claiming without evidence on social media that “U.S. spending on foreign conflicts had undermined support for disaster victims,” the U.S. official said.
