In 2023, the fund returned 30.7%, significantly outperforming its benchmark and the S & P 500, which was up 26%. Yiu's decision stems from his belief that Microsoft's business model is about to change significantly in light of the rise of generative AI. Microsoft has been leading the charge in generative AI adoption. The crux of the issue lies in the increased costs associated with providing AI services, according to the outperforming fund manager. Nvidia's chips, while readily available, allows the Silicon Valley company to capture much of the profit from generative AI services instead.

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, speaks at the Gamescom conference in Cologne, Germany, on Aug. 23, 2023. Microsoft will allow people to buy and play video games through its Xbox app for Android starting in November, the company said on Thursday. The move is an immediate consequence of a U.S. judge ruling on Monday that Google will have to present alternatives to its Google Play app store on Android devices. Currently, people can download games to Xbox consoles through the Xbox app for Android, and those who pay for the Netflix-like Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions can stream games from the cloud in a different app. In March, the U.S. Justice Department filed an antitrust case against Apple that said limiting distribution to the App Store gives the company monopoly power.

Google, the online search and digital ad goliath, is the first U.S. tech giant to land in federal court fighting antitrust concerns in decades. Google controls an estimated 88% of the market for general search online, according to the August opinion from Judge Mehta. And late in 2023, a jury delivered a guilty verdict against Google in a trial about business practices related to the Google Play app store. In September 2024, Epic filed an additional antitrust lawsuit against Google and Samsung, alleging that the company continued to use its monopoly power to unfairly harm competition. Watch the video above to see why the U.S. government is investigating Google.

OpenAI is now worth $157 billion, but it can't rest easy yet. Now comes the hard part: emerging victorious in a fiercely competitive AI industry. Though Sam Altman's company cemented its status as a frontrunner in the generative AI boom this week, securing a new $157 billion valuation after raising $6.6 billion of fresh capital from marquee investors, its leading position is hardly guaranteed. Sure, Altman's company now casts a massive shadow over the industry with its fresh $157 billion valuation. AI companies have been spending huge sums to purchase chips from Jensen Huang's Nvidia.

Its fund manager, Sean Peche, has a track record in picking winners that have helped the fund beat the S & P 500 over the past two years without owning any of the so-called " Magnificent Seven " technology stocks. The fund manager identified the U.S.-listed Perion Network as its worst-performing stock investment of the year. As an Israeli company not included in major stock indices, the Ranmore fund manager believed it might be undervalued due to reduced investor attention. The Ranmore fund manager noted that the company's cash reserves, which stood at $188 million at the end of 2023, provided some protection against further losses. Amazon won partial dismissal of an FTC lawsuit alleging illegal monopoly practices. AdvertisementAmazon just won a partial dismissal of a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit that accused it of operating an illegal monopoly. In September 2023, the FTC sued Amazon for stifling competition by punishing vendors who sell their items cheaper on rival platforms and for forcing sellers to use Amazon's own fulfillment service. On Monday, a federal judge in Seattle partially granted Amazon's earlier motion to dismiss the case, Reuters reported, citing court records. Last year, the agency sued Amazon in another case, saying it lured unwitting customers into Prime subscriptions and created a "labyrinthine" process to cancel it.

I still have a full workloadWhile AI has definitely helped with skipping mundane tasks, that's not exactly what my team's work is focused on.
