For decades, Sean “Diddy” Combs presented the image of a wealthy, Black music mogul, one who broke business barriers, threw lavish parties and even created iconic TV moments. But behind the scenes, prosecutors say, was a more sinister picture, with allegations of violence, sex trafficking and severe abuses of power. When Vice President Kamala Harris took the reins of the Democratic nomination in late July, something happened in North Carolina. Part of the Harris campaign strategy in North Carolina, according to a campaign official, includes attempting to bulk up turnout not just among Black voters but among women in and around the suburbs. For the week after Harris became the presumptive nominee, there was a 61.5% increase in voter registration among North Carolina women. Bonier takes all of this to point to a higher turnout of Democratic voters in North Carolina. “The way you win statewide in North Carolina,” he said, “is you win on the margins.”

Jailers put accused sex trafficker Sean "Diddy" Combs on a "procedural" suicide watch, as the music mogul awaits trial on three felony counts tied to more than a decade of alleged abuse, a source said. The source described this suicide watch as “procedural with high profile clients." Prosecutors accused the famed rapper of using his money and power to arrange for degrading, and at times physically abusive, sex acts called "freak offs." These hours- and days-long sex acts were produced, directed and recorded by Combs who allegedly "threatened and coerced women and others around him to fulfill his sexual desires,” prosecutors said. Federal agent claimed they seized more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and other lubricants from Combs’ homes that were used in these sex acts.

Packaged foods, soda, chips, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and ice cream all fall under the category of ultraprocessed foods, which can include dozens of synthetic additives such as preservatives, emulsifiers and artificial dyes. For every 10% increase in the amount of a person’s diet made up of ultraprocessed foods, the team found that there was a 17% increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes, the data showed. The scientists also found that reducing the amount of ultraprocessed food you are consuming can lower the risk, according to the study. “Ultra-processed foods are everywhere,” Dicken said via email. “We also know that increased body fat (from excess calories) increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

CNN —Described as “disgusting” with “horrifying” conditions, the detention center music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs now calls home is a far cry from the Miami and Los Angeles mansions he once lived in. A federal judge denied Combs bail Wednesday saying the bail proposal set forth by his defense attorneys was “insufficient” in addressing the court’s concerns. This after the Federal Bureau of Prisons shuttered its Manhattan complex shortly after multimillionaire financier and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in 2019. A month later, inmate Edwin Cordero died in a fight that broke out inside the prison. The incident prompted a Justice Department investigation assessing whether the Bureau of Prisons had “adequate contingency plans” to address inmate living conditions.

His new home is a notorious federal jail in New York City known for extreme violence and abominable medical care. Still, the conditions are horrid across the facility, according to interviews with more than a half-dozen defense lawyers and a review of court documents. “The agency as a whole has failed to assist MDC Brooklyn with the staffing crisis, hence allowing MDC Brooklyn to fail,” the union head, Rhonda Barnwell, wrote in a memo to Bureau of Prisons officials in June 2023. "That is why, earlier this year, the director appointed an Urgent Action Team to take a holistic look at the challenges at MDC Brooklyn," the spokesman added. A statute in the federal court system requires defendants who are out on bail to be remanded to jail after they are convicted.

Accused sex trafficker Sean "Diddy" Combs was set to return to a New York City courtroom on Wednesday afternoon, where his lawyers will again push for bail and pre-trial freedom from "horrific" jail conditions. Combs came to New York City to surrender to government agents before his arrest, defense lawyers said. Furthermore, Combs said he shouldn't be subjected to rough conditions at a federal lockup in New York City, citing murders and suicides that have occurred in that jail in recent years. "Numerous courts in this district have raised concerns with the horrific conditions of detention here." A grand jury indicted Combs on three felony counts: racketeering, sex trafficking and using transportation to engage in prostitution, court documents showed.

CNN —Sean “Diddy” Combs is expected Wednesday afternoon to appeal a federal judge’s decision to hold the hip-hop artist and music mogul without bail after he pleaded not guilty in federal court to charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution Tuesday. In court, prosecutors argued the music mogul should not be released because he had previously reached out to witnesses and victims. The judge told Combs there were no conditions she could find to assure her that he would appear in court if released. Combs’ lawyer Marc Agnifilo told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Tuesday night that Combs will likely not take a plea deal. The sex trafficking charge is based on allegations against a single, unnamed “Victim-I” from about 2009 up to about 2018, the indictment states.

Carter's decision may keep Combs confined in a notoriously violent and uncomfortable Brooklyn jail until he takes a plea or goes to trial. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan have accused Combs of sex-trafficking, illegally transporting people for sex, and running a racketeering conspiracy. They followed him on to a train that had pulled into the station and fired two Tasers, but neither incapacitated the man, Maddrey said. Mayor Eric Adams visited the wounded officer in the hospital Sunday, ahead of a news conference addressing the shooting. LONDON — Two alleged art thieves will appear in court in London next month accused of stealing “Girl With Balloon,” a famous painting by the mysterious British street artist Banksy. Larry Fraser, 47, from east London, and James Love, 53, from Essex, were both charged with non-residential burglary and placed in police custody on Thursday. The artwork — which shows a little girl letting go of, or perhaps reaching out for, a heart-shaped balloon — was stolen from a gallery in central London on Sept. 8 at 11:00 p.m, police said. The painting was the only item stolen and police said it had been recovered and would be returned to the gallery. The person who was shot, who has not been identified by authorities, sustained injuries that are life-threatening and was at a hospital Thursday night, Ryan said. CNN —A nearly four-year-old legal effort by Black voters to convince a court to prevent former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party from potentially intimidating voters and poll workers is quietly coming back to life as the 2024 election approaches. First brought in the days following the 2020 election, the lawsuit has moved slowly through the federal courts in Washington, DC, as Trump’s claims of presidential immunity from civil lawsuits were being litigated. It coincidently has landed before US District Judge Tanya Chutkan, the judge handling the federal election subversion charges against Trump. Attorneys for Trump and the RNC have asked to dismiss the case, saying any conduct at issue constitutes protected political speech. A federal judge found the two men liable for targeting Black voters in 2023, saying that their actions ran afoul of the KKK Act, the VRA and other laws.
