On Sunday, the American gymnast Jordan Chiles became the latest athlete to lose one. At the Paris Olympics, Ms. Chiles had won bronze in the individual floor exercise. That appeal, however, came four seconds too late, a court ruled, reinstating Ms. Chiles’s original score. The bronze will now go to Ana Barbosu of Romania, according to the International Olympic Committee. The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee intends to appeal the ruling.

These weren’t spies or drug test collectors. They are the staff of the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. And to collect items that tell the stories of the Paris Games, they needed to be everywhere. There were 32 sports and 329 medal events crammed into two weeks. So museum staff members fanned out as history happened to gather mementos: a gymnast’s leotard, a fencer’s saber, a Grand Slam tournament champion’s tennis racket, an opening ceremony outfit.

“The IOC will reallocate the bronze medal to Ana Bǎrbosu (Romania),” the statement said. But her coach, Cecile Landi, submitted an inquiry to challenge the difficulty score Chiles had received. The court agreed, invalidating Chiles’ score, and the International Gymnastics Federation, known as FIG, then announced that it had officially changed the ranking of the competition, putting Chiles back in fifth place. “The inquiry into the Difficulty Value of Jordan Chiles’ floor exercise routine was filed in good faith and, we believed, in accordance with FIG rules to ensure accurate scoring,” the statement said. PARIS — Steph Curry's late-game heroics and a lightning-fast American transition attack denied France its storybook basketball ending Saturday night. The United States consistently cashed in French turnovers and misses into fastbreak points and Curry scored a team-high 24 points in a 98-87 American win in the men’s basketball gold medal game. Curry gave the Bercy Arena fans his "night, night" taunt after the final, dagger jumper. The four-time NBA champ Curry said the gold medal is something he'll always cherish. He's now among nine players who can boast of having a NBA championship ring, regular season MVP honor, finals MVP award and an Olympic gold medal.

The last two races of the Paris Games were a gold rush for the U.S., with both the women and men dominating the 4x400-meter relays Saturday. A three-time gold medalist after wins in the 200-meter and 4x100-meter relay, Thomas helped widen the gap in the third lap that McLaughlin-Levrone created in the second. In the last lap, it came down to a race between two gold medalists: Benjamin and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo. With the victory, 16-year-old Quincy Wilson — who ran earlier in the week for the U.S. but not in the final — is now the youngest Olympic track-and-field gold medalist ever. He is also the youngest male U.S. Olympic gold medalist in any sport since 1952.

With that run, Wilson became the youngest male U.S. track Olympian, eclipsing middle-distance runner Jim Ryun, who was 17 at the 1964 Olympics. Wilson later became the youngest male Olympic track and field gold medalist ever after the U.S. 4x400-meter relay team — made up of Chris Bailey, Vernon Norwood, Bryce Deadmon, and Rai Benjamin — won gold over Botswana on Saturday. “I was kind of in the moment because I’m watching a 16-year-old running the Olympics — Olympics history,” Norwood said. Quincy Wilson competes in the men's 400-meter final at the U.S. Track and Field Trials on June 24. The showing led USA Track & Field to include him in the pool of runners eligible to run on a U.S. relay in Paris.

U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles might lose her bronze medal. She had placed fifth before the inquiry, behind both Romanians, but received a tenth back on her final score, boosting her onto the podium. In one, the team asked that the 0.1 point penalty for stepping out of bounds on Maneca-Voinea's final score be returned because it was "given without basis." It also requested that Chiles, Maneca-Voinea and Bărbosu all be placed in third and earn bronze medals. If she had not received the deduction, Maneca-Voinea would have scored higher than Bărbosu and Chiles, even after Chiles' score was increased on appeal.

At Paris 2024, Taiwan’s red and blue flag is banned, as is the name “Taiwan” and its anthem. Security staff confiscated a "Taiwan" towel from a fan during the men's doubles badminton semi-final last week. Taiwan is a self-governing democracy that competes as “Chinese Taipei,” an attempt to participate in the Olympics without angering mainland China. That included the women’s team table tennis quarterfinal between Chinese Taipei and China that NBC News attended Wednesday. “Taiwan Independence, go to die.”“Motherland will retake Taiwan tomorrow, okay?” said another, referring to China.

DETROIT — The case against a man accused of killing of a Detroit synagogue leader collapsed Friday as a judge dismissed a remaining murder charge, three weeks after a jury cleared him of a similar but separate charge. Prosecutors acknowledged that the pending murder charge probably had to be dismissed, but it still was a blow in the highly publicized case. But it couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict on a separate charge of felony murder, which in Michigan is murder committed during another crime. The judge ruled out a second trial Friday, based on a 2009 U.S. Supreme Court decision involving partial jury verdicts. Woll’s body was discovered outdoors, just east of downtown Detroit, hours after she had returned from a fall wedding.

The long-distance runner is looking to write one more chapter in the history books with a record-breaking third Olympic marathon win, at the Paris Games. The sun is yet to rise, but a group of runners emerge from a mud path onto the side of a road. This is what Olympic preparation looks like for arguably the greatest distance runner of all time, Eliud Kipchoge. In 2019, in Vienna, he shattered one of the most formidable barriers in sports by becoming the first person to run a marathon in under two hours. With the Games upon us, Kipchoge remains laser-focused on clinching his third consecutive gold medal in the marathon.

And then Curry got the ball at the top of the key and – bang. Off a pass from Devin Booker with 1:19 left, Curry buried another three and the US was back up by three possessions. Breaking is a new sport at this year’s Summer Olympics — at least we’ll call it a sport for the sake of the Games. You probably know it as break dancing, the art form in which performers spin, pose, glide and dance across the floor with incredible athleticism and charisma. The event debuted yesterday in Paris with the women’s, or B-Girls’, competition. Ami Yuasa of Japan, known as B-Girl Ami, bested Lithuania’s Dominika Banevic, or B-Girl Nicka, to win breaking’s first gold medal. The dance spread nationally and globally through movies like “Beat Street” and pioneering crews providing demonstrations in countries like Japan and England.

CNN —The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled on Saturday that the initial inquiry made by the USA over Jordan Chiles’ score in Monday’s gymnastics floor exercise final was filed after the one-minute deadline. That means that Chiles’ score is being reverted to the original 13.666, which was only good enough for fifth place. It’s unclear as of Saturday what that means for the bronze medal that Chiles was awarded. Immediately after the competition finished on Monday with Chiles’ routine, Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu thought she had won the bronze medal after posting a score of 13.700. CNN has reached out to the FIG to ask what their ruling will be on whether Chiles’ medal will be revoked.

Despite a late push, she could not help her side finally overcome a USWNT in a gold medal match. After a cagey first half of today’s final, Swanson finally found space beyond the back line to break open a deadlocked match. It was a sequence worth of winning a gold medal and a fine way to mark a player’s 100th cap. But now, with a gold medal tucked under her arm, she definitely has the cachet to make whatever changes she wants. Hayes led the U.S. to its fifth Olympic gold medal.

CAS said it’s now up to the International Gymnastics Federation to determine how medals should be reassigned given the ruling. GO DEEPER How a score inquiry led to gymnast Jordan Chiles' Olympic bronzeThe appeal by the Romanian federation requested all three athletes be placed in third and allocated medals, the court said in its release. After Chiles finished her routine, Bărbosu beamed and held the Romanian flag to celebrate winning bronze, unaware that Chiles’ coach had submitted an inquiry. Upon seeing the changed score, Chiles began screaming in celebration. Before Chiles’ inquiry, Bărbosu and Maneca-Voinea were tied for third with identical scores of 13.700.
