The mother of the shooter in the Robb Elementary massacre in Uvalde, Texas, was arrested this week following a domestic violence-related incident, police said. Adriana Martinez Reyes, 40, was arrested Wednesday in Oklahoma City and charged with threatening to perform an act of violence and assault and battery, according to a police report. She is the mother of the gunman who opened fire at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde in May 2022, killing 19 students and two teachers. The report stated that police had responded to the same home on Jan. 1 on a domestic-related call. During that New Year’s Day visit, Reyes allegedly told officers she was the mother of Salvador Ramos, CBS affiliate KBTX of Bryan, Texas, reported.
The New York City woman who disappeared after she was last seen on the subway on New Year's Eve has been found safe, police said. Adamaruis Garcia, 21, returned home "in good health and condition" on Thursday, five days after she vanished, police said. Garcia had worked at a Manhattan restaurant until 9 p.m. the night she disappeared. Robles, of Pennsylvania, traveled to Queens to join the search for Garcia and posted missing person’s fliers around the city Wednesday. She said it was “very out of character” for Garcia to go so long without contacting her family.
James “Buster” Corley, the co-founder of popular arcade restaurant chain Dave & Buster’s, has died, the company said. Dave & Buster’s remembered Corley as “an innovative and creative force.”“His pioneering spirit and steadfast belief that ‘everybody is somebody’ set the foundation for bringing food and games to millions of Dave & Buster’s guests over the past 40 years. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Corley died Monday, but a cause and manner of death was not available Wednesday afternoon. His family told ABC affiliate WFAA of Dallas that the man described in the Monday police incident was Corley. “Buster Corley had a stroke four months ago that caused severe damage to the communication and personality part of his brain,” Kate Corley, Corley's daughter, told the news station.
William Rick Singer, the mastermind of a nationwide college admissions cheating scheme, will be sentenced in a federal courtroom in Boston Wednesday. His sentencing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.Singer, 62, had pleaded guilty in March 2019 to charges including racketeering conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy in connection with the scandal, dubbed Operation Varsity Blues. The operation involved bribes, cheating on entrance exams, and fraudulently getting unqualified applicants into schools as elite recruited athletes. Ken Block, a professional rally driver and YouTube star, died Monday in a snowmobile accident in Utah, officials said. Block was riding a snowmobile on a steep slope in the Mill Hollow area of Wasatch County Monday afternoon when “the snowmobile upended, landing on top of him,” the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office said. He was riding with a group, but the sheriff’s office said Block was alone when the accident occurred. “We are saddened to hear of the loss of Kenneth and our hearts are with his family and friends so deeply affected,” the sheriff’s office said. He kicked off his professional rally racing career in 2005, and was named Rookie of the Year that season in the Rally America Championship, according to a biography on his racing team's website.
Two adults and two children were rescued from a Tesla that plunged 250 feet off a cliff Monday morning in San Mateo County, California, officials said. The car flipped and landed on its wheels in the fall, CAL FIRE/Coastside Fire Incident Commander Brian Pottenger said. As they waited, firefighters rappelled to the scene and rescued the two children. The California Highway Patrol shared video on social media showing helicopters lower first responders to the scene to extricate and rescue two adults inside. The San Mateo Sheriff's Office said the two adults suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the two children were unharmed.
A Nebraska company is recalling alfalfa sprouts sold in three states due to potential salmonella contamination as state health officials investigate a “cluster of gastrointestinal illnesses” caused by the bacteria. SunSprout Enterprises, based in Fremont, Nebraska, announced Thursday that it is voluntarily recalling four lots of raw alfalfa sprouts. SunSprout Enterprises alfalfa sprouts. "This voluntary recall is a result of a preliminary investigation by the State of Nebraska in connection with CDC of an outbreak of illness likely associated with alfalfa sprouts," the company said. State Epidemiologist Dr. Matthew Donahue praised local and state health officials for quickly narrowing down the cause of the illnesses.
A New Jersey woman has been charged with murder, accused of fatally shooting her husband, a figure in local Republican politics, on Christmas Day. An autopsy determined Wigglesworth died of a single gunshot wound and the manner of his death was a homicide, prosecutors said. He previously served as president of the Planning Board in Hamilton Township and unsuccessfully ran as a Republican for the Township Committee in 2012, The Press of Atlantic City reported. Her attorneys, Jonathan E. Diego and Melissa Rosenblum, said in a statement shared with NBC News: “A tragedy occurred on Christmas evening. The facts of that heart-rending evening will unfold in a court of law, not the court of public opinion.”

Alexandra Eckersley, 26, was arrested Monday, accused of abandoning her newborn infant in a tent “without heat or proper clothing in the woods” in frigid 15-degree weather, according to charging documents. She is the daughter of Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher and longtime Red Sox announcer Dennis Eckersley, a representative for the baseball player confirmed to NBC Boston. Eckersley told detectives that she was in pain on Christmas Day and believed she was constipated or hemorrhaging. A widespread search is underway for a woman is now charged with kidnapping after allegedly stealing a vehicle with twin infants inside in Ohio, one of whom has since been found, according to police. When she returned, she found her vehicle was gone, according to the Columbus Division of Police. Police are searching for a man who impersonated a police officer and shot a man and a boy at a facility for youth awaiting trial in Washington, D.C. The suspect claimed he was an officer serving a warrant on one of the juveniles housed at the privately owned facility, NBC Washington reported. “He recognized that individual who was in the facility, immediately pulled out a handgun and started shooting at that individual,” Metropolitan Police Department Cmdr. “He was absolutely trying, specifically targeting that individual,” Haines said. Juveniles housed at the facility have been relocated following the shooting, an official familiar with the investigation said to NBC Washington.
Police in North Carolina have released video footage showing the last known time missing 11-year-old girl Madalina Cojocari was seen, getting off her school bus. Police became aware that the girl had vanished when Madalina’s mother, Diana Cojocari, reported her missing to Bailey Middle School on Dec. 15, and an investigation into her disappearance was launched. That report came after school employees contacted the mother “on several occasions” to inquire about why Madalina was absent from school. Madalina is described as 4 feet, 10 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes, and weighing 90 pounds. Eight teenage girls have been charged with murder in Canada in the stabbing death of a 59-year-old man in what police are describing as a "swarming" attack. In the investigation, authorities learned the victim was allegedly assaulted and stabbed by a group of teenage girls and eight teens were arrested nearby. He revealed that the group of girls were in the area Saturday by 10:30 p.m. and were allegedly involved in an altercation earlier before the attack on the 59-year-old man. Browne said the eight girls met each other through social media and come from varying parts of the city. Three of the girls had prior contact with Toronto Police Services before the Sunday incident, while the other five did not, Browne said.

The move is a stunning reversal of course for Bankman-Fried who was arrested in the Bahamas Dec. 12 and initially resisted extradition. Bankman-Fried, 30, once the most prominent name in crypto, has since seen his empire fall into disgrace over the past few weeks. Last week, he was indicted in New York federal court on eight counts spanning wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and violating campaign finance laws. A Connecticut college basketball star was fatally shot over the weekend at a New Jersey nature preserve, according to officials. Phil Urban, a 6-foot-6 forward at Post University in Connecticut, was shot in Hopewell Township, New Jersey, on Saturday, about 30 miles away from his native Manalapan Township. Post University CEO & President John L. Hopkins said the community was "heartbroken" to learn of Urban's death. Urban was a freshman, according to Post University’s 2022-23 basketball roster. An Alabama inmate died after being “baked” to death in a sweltering prison cell described as “hotter than three hells,” his family alleged in a federal wrongful death lawsuit. T Unit, the mental health ward where Rutledge was held, was not included in the project, according to the lawsuit. Two teenage boys were left dangling in the air and had to be rescued after a bungee ride malfunctioned at London’s annual "Winter Wonderland” holiday event in Hyde Park. London’s Metropolitan Police were called to the scene Wednesday just after 8:20 p.m. on reports of two people trapped in a bungee ride. Metropolitan Police said by the time officers arrived the boys in the fairground ride cage had been lowered down and they had left the scene. The ride is closed pending further investigation, but all other attractions at Winter Wonderland are operating as normal, the spokesperson said, stressing, "Safety is our highest priority." A former University of California, Irvine, student threw his mother off a campus building before jumping to his death earlier this week in a case police are investigating as a murder-suicide, authorities said.
