REUTERS/Mike Segar Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Donald Trump on Wednesday appealed a judge's refusal to dismiss New York Attorney General Letitia James' civil fraud lawsuit against him and his family business, two days after the case went to trial. James accused Trump, his adult sons Donald Jr. and Eric, the Trump Organization and others of inflating property values over a decade, and Trump's net worth by up to $2.2 billion. The attorney general said the "staggering fraud" was meant to help Trump obtain favorable terms from banks and insurers. Engoron also ordered the cancellation of certificates that let some of Trump's businesses, including the Trump Organization, operate in New York. James also wants Trump and his adult sons permanently banned from running businesses in New York.

REUTERS/Mike Segar/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLOS ANGELES, Oct 2 (Reuters) - Negotiators for striking Hollywood actors resumed contract talks on Monday with representatives of major studios, television networks and streaming services, marking the first time the two sides have returned to the bargaining table since mid-July. Renewed talks between the SAG-AFTRA actors union and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) came eight days after the producers clinched a separate contract deal with Hollywood writers, who launched their own strike on May 2, about 10 weeks before the actors. In the area of artificial intelligence, actors want to protect their images and work from being replaced by computer-generated "digital replicas." The resumption of contract talks between the actors and studios also coincided with network television's late-night hosts - Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel - bringing their shows back to television on Monday.

Russia's federal anti-monopoly service (FAS) fined Apple in January over what it said was the U.S. company's abuse of its dominant market position. In a statement, the regulator said it had previously found that Apple forced Russian developers to use Apple's payment services with the iOS App Store, in violation of Russia's competition rules. The FAS's decision entered legal force in May after it was approved by a Moscow court, RIA reported.

An Amtrak Acela train arrives at New York's Penn Station, the nation's busiest train hub, in New York City, U.S., May 25, 2017. The Amtrak inspector general in a report on Tuesday said the program faces further delays because the new Amtrak trains have not met Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements and all of the trainsets produced so far have defects. The report added the likeliest cause of more delays would be a lack of a validated trainset model, followed by certain trainset defects. Alstom said it is working with the FRA to meet requirements "through their first-ever safety certification for high-speed trains." Congress approved $66 billion for rail as part of the 2021 infrastructure bill, with Amtrak receiving $22 billion.

Nadella was dismissing an argument that Google has made - that it is easy to change defaults on devices. He said that Microsoft, itself a tech powerhouse, had sought to make its Bing search engine the default on Apple (AAPL.O) smartphones but was rebuffed. The clout in search makes Google a heavy hitter in the lucrative advertising market, boosting its profits. The department accuses Google of paying $10 billion annually to wireless carriers and smartphone makers to ensure that Google search is the default on their devices. The U.S. consumer agency, which enforces federal antitrust law, and 17 states filed their lawsuit against Amazon in Seattle federal court on Tuesday, asking a U.S. judge to consider an injunction and other penalties to combat alleged unlawful conduct. The FTC's lawsuit is related to but broader than a series of private consumer cases filed in recent years against Amazon that are pending in the same U.S. federal court. The private antitrust cases offer an early window into some of the legal arguments Amazon could be expected to make to challenge the FTC's lawsuit. Generally speaking, U.S. judges are "wary of using antitrust law to punish low-pricing behavior," said antitrust scholar Sean Sullivan of the University of Iowa's law school. Sullivan said it is not always a clear line between "good low pricing" — based on market competition — and "bad low pricing" that helps a company acquire or maintain market power.
