Sales in of $8.204 billion were down 3% from last year and missed estimates of $8.676 billion compiled by Refintiv. Bottom line Linde continues to operate at a high level, no matter the twists and turns in the global economy. Secondly, it's pretty much expected that Linde will beat on earnings and raise its full-year outlook when it reports. However, most of those customers are already back online and therefore Linde expects volumes to improve sequentially in the third quarter. Commentary on the results Almost all calls begin with a discussion of the reported results. The reported quarter ended May 31 and the call was hosted on June 30, a full month after the quarter ended. By listening into the call, an investor could see that the reported results did not tell the full story around Wynn's business in China. As with the reported results, any comments on supply chains and customer dynamics could prove relevant to the direction of the stock. It can be quantitative, by which management provides actual targets for sales, earnings, and/or industry metrics.

The deal builds out Exxon's plan to develop an emerging market that makes money from reducing its own and others' greenhouse gases. Carbon sequestration is the favored strategy for U.S. oil and gas companies to reduce emissions while continuing to expand oil and gas production. Last year, Exxon struck its first commercial carbon storage deal with top ammonia maker CF Industries. The Denbury deal "reflects our determination to profitably grow our low carbon solutions business," Exxon CEO Darren Woods said in a statement. Here's a rapid-fire update on all 35 stocks in Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust, the portfolio we use for the CNBC Investing Club. Coterra Energy (CTRA): At roughly 10 times forward earnings, Jim said he'd classify Coterra shares as dirt cheap. Estee Lauder (EL): We're downgrading Estee Lauder to a 2 rating Wednesday, meaning we're no longer recommending investors buy the stock at current levels. But we're sticking with Estee Lauder because eventually we expect China's economy to turn around, and with it EL's stock price. The semiconductor firm, which has seen its stock price nearly triple this year, is reportedly considering taking a long-term stake in chip designer Arm Holdings.

While the natural inclination is to cheer a strong jobs market, investors are responding with a boo and bailing out of risk assets. The thinking goes like this: If people are at work and the labor market is stronger than expected, the ability of the consumer to absorb higher prices is also greater than previously thought. If the ability to absorb higher prices is greater than expected, above target (2%) inflation can last longer than estimated, regardless of the current fed funds rate. If the current fed funds rate isn't stopping hiring and consumers' ability to absorb higher prices, the rate simply isn't high enough. Energy is tough: We really need China's reopening to pick up as demand will be the key to higher energy prices.

It's not unusual for a company's stock price to soar — or sink — on news of a CEO shakeup. So, CEOs matter when picking stocks — and at the Club, these are the five things we look for when evaluating the leaders of our holdings. A stock's day-to-day and even month-to-month performance may not truly reflect how well a CEO is leading a company. Trust has value, and the stocks of companies led by reputable CEOs with competent management teams can trade at premium valuations. Our four industrial-focused stocks — Caterpillar (CAT), Emerson Electric (EMR), Honeywell (HON) and Linde (LIN) — have all been gaining steam over the past three months. There are positive short-term catalysts for our industrial holdings including the U.S. government's commitment to infrastructure spending, global decarbonization initiatives, and industrial automation. For all these reasons, Jim said EMR stock has been "stuck in the mud." EMR stock also pays a healthy 2.5% annual dividend yield and is a real dividend aristocrat. But Global Witness' research suggests that this results in job ads being targeted to users based on gender stereotypes. And in some cases, human rights advocates say, the biases that appear to be shown by Facebook's ad system may exacerbate other disparities. Global Witness targeted the ads to adult Facebook users of any gender who resided in, or had recently visited, the chosen countries. Certain roles were less strongly skewed — a package delivery job ad, for example, was shown to 38% women users in the Netherlands. In December, Real Women in Trucking filed its EEOC complaint alleging that Facebook's job ads algorithm discriminates based on age and gender.
