CNN —A New Mexico grand jury will soon decide whether Alec Baldwin should once again face criminal charges over the 2021 death of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. “We will answer any charges in court.”Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza injured when a gun held by Baldwin fired a live round during a scene rehearsal. Fred Hayes/Getty ImagesBaldwin denied pulling the trigger on the weapon in a previous interview with CNN. The film’s assistant director, David Halls, was identified as the person who handed the firearm to Baldwin that fateful day. Earlier this year, he signed a plea agreement “for the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon,” prosecutors said, noting that terms of the deal include six months of probation.

"That is his super power," said David Kochel, a Republican strategist not affiliated with any 2024 presidential campaign. Both campaigns use other accounts to raise money known as joint fundraising committees. Trump's campaign previously said it raised over $45 million in the third quarter, without giving details of how much joint fundraising raised and how much the joint committee spent raising that money. The Trump campaign didn't respond to requests for details about fundraising by the joint committee. Biden's camp had previously said his campaign, the Democratic Party and their joint fundraising committees raised a combined $71 million.

Hamas fighters burst across the Gaza barrier fence into Israel in a stunning assault on Oct. 7, killing 1,300 and abducting dozens more, including Americans. In a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted during the 2014 conflict, 22% of respondents said the U.S. should support Israel's position, and 2% wanted support for Palestinian's position. Support for Israel's position in the new poll was strongest among Republicans, with 54% of the party backing Israel's position compared to 37% of Democrats. Some 69% of poll respondents said they were following news about the fighting "very closely" or "somewhat closely." The Reuters poll showed Americans have little faith in the ability of either Biden or Trump to solve the crisis.

But the most important day could be Wednesday when Chinese unemployment, industrial production, retail sales and business investment figures for September will be released, along with third-quarter GDP. The property sector's travails, threat of deflation, soaring youth unemployment, foreign outflows from Chinese stocks and bonds, and the exchange rate's slide to a 16-year low are well documented. The week ended with Asian stocks up 6%, their first rise in four weeks, and world stocks adding 4.5%, their best week in six.

A sign for 5G is seen at the World 5G Exhibition in Beijing, China November 22, 2019. The Chinese embassy in San Jose criticized the remarks in a statement. "These comments gravely affect the confidence and expectations of Chinese companies to undertake economic-trade activities in Costa Rica and they erode the good energy to develop bilateral relations," the embassy wrote in a statement. In August, Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves approved a decree aiming to regulate 5G mobile network development and banned firms from countries that have not agreed to an international cybercrime convention. Chaves issued the directive shortly after Laura Richardson, a senior U.S. military commander, visited Costa Rica, where she questioned growing Chinese investment in Latin American infrastructure development including ports and 5G networks.

People walk past the headquarters of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, in Beijing, China September 28, 2018. Going by Wall Street's decline on Thursday, sparked by a spike in long-dated U.S. bond yields following a weak 30-year auction, the mood will be one of caution, at best. Annual producer price inflation has been negative for a year, although consumer inflation only briefly dipped below zero in July. On Thursday the yield curve flattened the most in a single day since March, a 'bull' flattening led by heavy buying of long-dated bonds. But the Type 094s, which carry China's most advanced submarine-launched JL-3 missile, are considered relatively noisy - a major handicap for military submarines. The paper notes that the Type 096 submarine will compare to state-of-the-art Russian submarines in terms of stealth, sensors and weapons. That puts construction on schedule to have the boats operational by 2030, the timeline stated in the Pentagon's annual reports on China's military. Even if China's submarine force reaches technological parity, it will need to train aggressively and intensively over the next decade to match AUKUS capabilities, he added. Vasily Kashin, a Moscow-based Chinese military scholar at HSE University, said it was possible Chinese engineers had made the breakthroughs described in the report.

As vacationers emerge into a post-pandemic travel world, cruises have made a spectacular comeback — and ticket prices are surging. Cruise operators such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruises are setting some ticket prices higher than pre-pandemic levels and are indicating they may raise them further, even as they post pre-Covid profits. Compared to 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic decimated the cruising industry, December ticket prices are up 43%. The company's booking volumes likewise hit an all-time high, pushing cruise occupancy and revenue beyond 2019 levels, he said. Royal Caribbean CEO Jason Liberty echoed the sentiment, saying on that company's post-earnings call in July that his company is also considering increasing prices to meet the surge in demand.

WASHINGTON, Oct 5 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden's administration said on Thursday it will add sections to a border wall to stave off record migrant crossings from Mexico, carrying forward a signature policy of former President Donald Trump. Trump made building border barriers a central tenet of his first campaign for president with the rally chant, "Build That Wall." Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement that there was "no new Administration policy with respect to border walls. From day one, this Administration has made clear that a border wall is not the answer." In another major enforcement action announced on Thursday, Biden administration officials said they would be resuming deportation flights to Venezuela, which had been suspended because of chilly relations between the two countries.

REUTERS/Ken Cedeno Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Oct 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. narrowly dodged its fourth partial government shutdown in a decade on Sunday, but the past week exposed the depths of political dysfunction in Washington and particularly within the splintered House Republican caucus. "The dysfunction caucus at work," Republican Representative Don Bacon told reporters earlier this month, after hardliners blocked consideration of a defense appropriations bill that finally passed on Thursday. He's a charlatan," Representative Mike Lawler, a centrist Republican from New York, said of Gaetz after the failed Republican stopgap vote.
