This includes, among other things, an increase to the standard deduction, lower marginal income tax rates for most income brackets, and an increase to the estate tax exemption. Though his campaign hasn’t released details on the proposal, Trump has indicated that he would eliminate both federal income taxes and payroll taxes, which fund Social Security and Medicare. However, these workers would then get smaller Social Security payments after they retire. Around half of beneficiaries – mainly those with higher incomes – pay federal income tax on their Social Security payments. Trump has also floated ending the federal income tax and replacing it with revenue from tariffs.

It's the dawn of a new day for the crypto industry with Donald Trump now the president-elect of the United States, said Galaxy Digital's Michael Novogratz, calling out the numerous crypto advocates that have advised him. "We've got a Congress that is moving our way, we've got a president that's moving our way, and so for Galaxy and the crypto industry, that couldn't be more optimistic," he said on CNBC's "Squawk Box" Wednesday morning. "Those three positions, with someone who's open minded to crypto … changes everything," he said. And all of a sudden we'll start seeing decentralized systems launched and work so this is really a step change." The shift won't happen overnight, Novogratz warned, but as Trump starts to appoint people into various positions of leadership there will be "a substantial shift in the energy of this industry."

Kevin Lamarque | ReutersTensions are likely running high in Kyiv ahead of Tuesday's presidential election in the U.S. — a vote that could make or break ongoing aid for Ukraine. Officials in Kyiv say the election is being watched closely, amid concerns that future aid could be cut. In the week before the presidential election, Western officials were reported as saying that a Harris administration would likely struggle to push significant aid for Ukraine through Congress. Win or lose Tuesday, Vance, 40, is positioned to be a leading figure in the party for years to come. Why Toyota and Honda vehicles have such high resale values
  + stars: | 2024-11-04 | by ( Robert Ferris | In | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
Toyota and Honda have at times been called boring: Honda by its own engineers, Toyota more famously by a chairman descended from the company's founder. But while they may not have the luster of, say, European sports cars, these two Japanese brands have enviably high resale values. Toyota has topped Kelley Blue Book's Best Resale Value list eight times since 2014, including the last four consecutive years. Another key for the automakers is that Toyota and Honda listen carefully to customers and try to build only what they think people will buy. "The market tends to have much greater demand than Toyota supplies up front, which keeps resale high, which keeps consumers happy, and the cycle continues on and on," said Tyson Jominy, vice president of data analytics at J.D.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is engaging in a war of attrition in Ukraine. AdvertisementKamala Harris and Donald Trump have starkly different visions of how they'll seek to end one of the gravest security crises in recent decades: the Ukraine war. North Korea is also believed to have sent thousands of troops to aid Russia in its war against Ukraine, per officials from South Korea, Ukraine, and the US. It's a war Putin has staked Russia's economic future on, underlining the importance of victory for the Russian leader. China is observing the Ukraine conflict closely as it weighs whether to launch an invasion of US-ally Taiwan.

American policy is at a crossroads, but that won’t necessarily translate to a turning point in peace negotiations, analysts say. That’s because nothing suggests Russia is ready to come to the table, regardless of who ends up in the White House. The scope of the war is also too large for a simple negotiation between Moscow and Kyiv, experts say. Attritional war playing into Putin’s handsUkraine is already outmanned, and Putin appears ready to accept a high number of casualties.
