If You Can Make It Here Great design for a great city (New York, of course — where else?) In the oak-paneled living room of Justinian Kfoury’s apartment in a townhouse on Washington Square Park, an Audubon-style print and a Hans Wegner Papa Bear chair. “She was eccentric, grand, but not afraid of making weird decisions about design.” In the living room, a 1975 Leonid Berman painting of the Venice Lagoon hangs between the French doors. A view of the double-height living room from the curved balcony on the third floor. A sculpture by Huma Bhabha and a configuration of five Isamu Noguchi L7 pendants in the landing that separates the primary suite from the living room.

America is stuck in a greased-pig economy

At the same time that prices were cooling off, the rest of the economy seemed to be holding up. And consumers were so intent on spending money to have a good time that cities let Beyoncé dictate public transit. In this greased-pig economy, stability depends on how confident investors and policymakers are that they're close to catching the pig. Moving in a messIn the messy economy the pandemic left us, it's not easy to pinpoint exactly why inflation has been so stubborn. The World Weather Attribution initiative – a team of scientists that analyze the role of climate change in the aftermath of extreme weather events – found planet-warming pollution made the deadly rainfall in Libya up to 50 times more likely to occur and 50% worse. They also found the extreme rainfall that hit Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria was made up to 10 times more likely. Extreme rainfall has swept across large parts of the Mediterranean region since the start of the month. They found in Libya, not only did climate change make the extreme rainfall up to 50 times more likely, it also made it up to 50% more intense. The kind of extreme rainfall this region experienced is likely to happen around once every 10 years, according to the report.

Cerebral Valley, an AI conference run by Eric Newcomer's eponymous publication, just announced its second gathering of 2023. CVAI2 (Cerebral Valley AI Summit version 2.0) will take place on November 15 at the SFJAZZ Center in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. The neighborhood is nicknamed Cerebral Valley these days, due to the plethora of AI startups that have sprouted there. Ali Ghodsi, CEO of Databricks, and Naveen Rao, CEO of MosaicML, met for the first time at the initial Cerebral Valley AI Summit. That's the biggest generative AI startup deal so far, by my counting.

"Generative AI is just a phase. What's next is interactive AI," said Mustafa Suleyman, the cofounder of Google DeepMind. His company, Inflection AI, launched its chatbot Pi as a rival to ChatGPT in May, focusing on personal advice and being conversational. For context, we are currently seeing the rise of generative AI tools that go beyond the chat interface popularized by ChatGPT in November. Suleyman and Inflection AI did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider, sent outside regular business hours.

CNN —A Picasso masterpiece entitled “Femme à la montre” fetched more than $139 million on Wednesday, becoming the second most valuable work by the artist ever sold at auction. The 1932 oil painting took center-stage at a two-day event at Sotheby’s in New York, at the sale of late philanthropist Emily Fisher Landau’s private collection. She is pictured here in front of Fernand Léger's "Étude pour Les Constructeurs" in her home in Manhattan in 2002. In a statement announcing the sale in September, Julian Dawes, Sotheby’s head of Impressionist & Modern Art for the Americas, said: “Picasso’s ‘Femme à la Montre’ is a masterpiece by every measure. Andy Warhol's 1986 self portrait will also be auctioned as part of Fisher Landau's collection.

Anti-Black hate crimes peaked in 1996 at 42% of all hate crimes, then began a steady decline until 2020. June of that year was the worst month for anti-Black hate crimes since national record-keeping by the FBI began. “We generally see increases in hate crimes in election years and around catalytic events,” said Levin. “We’re talking about almost 500 to 700 more hate crimes in an election year. Domestic terrorism will not prevail in America.”In 2021, Biden signed the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act to address the spike in anti-Asian hate crimes seen at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

So there's some really good things to take out of the week, (but) the biggest thing would be we gave away a few too many penalties. "Everyone's got to understand what we're trying to do and understand how the referees are refereeing. "What we've got to take from this game is the learnings but also keep believing because we did a lot of good things out here tonight." We're still All Blacks, we're still proud of who we are and what we are," he said. And we showed how dangerous we are on the break so that's what we'll be going for next week."

The U.S. Commerce Department, which normally administers new licensing requirements on exports, did not immediately return a request for comment. Last September AMD said it had received new license requirements that would halt exports of its MI250 artificial-intelligence chips to China.
