The star told BI she asked the teen if she was OK with the exchange being aired on TV. He's in middle school, and he's got enough to deal with," she told BI. "You just have to create a safe and comfortable environment for them and just let them know that you care," she told BI. As for her own parents, Dubrow told BI that she "came from a very 1950s family," and matters like sex were pushed under the rug.

The book's title in the UK was "French Children Don't Throw Food," summing up her observation that they were better behaved because of the less angsty approach. She said it was unusual for French parents to track their adolescents' location using the GPS on their phones. In contrast, French parents spent almost an hour less "together time" with their kids in 2020 than they did 55 years earlier. The mom added that French parents ensure that they are not defined as such. If you'd like to share it with Business Insider, please send details to jridley@businessinsider.com.

Banking regulators on Friday disclosed that they found weaknesses in the resolution plans of four of the eight largest American lenders. The Federal Reserve and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation said that the so-called living wills — plans for unwinding huge institutions in the event of distress or failure — of Citigroup , JPMorgan Chase , Goldman Sachs and Bank of America filed in 2023 were inadequate. Regulators found fault with the way each of the banks planned to unwind their massive derivatives portfolios. The living wills are a key regulatory exercise mandated in the aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis. "We are fully committed to addressing the issues identified by our regulators," New York-based Citigroup said in a statement.

Read previewThe prosecutors in Donald Trump's criminal hush-money case say they're OK with the former president resuming his attacks on Michael Cohen, Stormy Daniels, and other witnesses in the case — but that they want the judge to maintain other parts of his gag order. A courtroom sketch of Michael Cohen while under questioning by prosecutor Susan Hoffinger at Donald Trump's Manhattan hush-money trial. The prosecutors in the case will continue to be engaged in Trump's appeal, so they should continue to be protected by the gag order, prosecutors wrote. If you did, you’d remember him, maybe a little uneasily. His voice could clear a range from excitedly high to a menacing bass that would make you feel like ducking for cover. His turn as the titular private detective opposite Jane Fonda in Alan Pakula’s 1971 “Klute” rides a tricky knife’s edge — is he a good guy? Sutherland worked constantly and, unlike some actors of his generation, never really seemed like he belonged to a single era. In the book, he’s sardonic and contemptuous of all but his oldest two daughters, Jane and Lizzy; the reader doesn’t walk away with particularly warm feelings about him.

Those with several student loans who apply for so-called loan consolidation by June 30 — a move that packages multiple federal student loans into a single new loan — may benefit from the temporary policy. Student loan borrowers have until the end of June to meet a deadline that could lead to quicker debt forgiveness. Many student loan borrowers have multiple education loans, either because they borrowed repeatedly throughout college or returned to school at some point. "Many borrowers will get complete debt cancellation, particularly those who have been paying for over twenty years," Fox said. Usually, a student loan consolidation restarts a borrower's forgiveness timeline to zero, making it a terrible move for those working toward cancellation.

In 2016, the Libertarian Party presidential candidate, Gary Johnson, received more votes than any of the party’s other candidates in history and the most of any third-party candidate since Ross Perot — and arguably, the Libertarian Party has never recovered. Much like the conservative movement, the libertarian movement has been divided between more “normie” libertarians who have embraced criminal justice reform and social freedoms (like immigration and the rights of L.G.B.T.Q. And in 2024, the Libertarian Party Convention featured appearances from people like former President Donald Trump. But in a major surprise, the winner of the party’s presidential nominating process was not the Mises Caucus’s favorite but Chase Oliver, a 38-year-old, gay antiwar activist who had left the Democratic Party. I spoke with Mr. Oliver about what libertarianism means to him today, how he plans to fight for independent votes this year and why the Libertarian Party failed 2020’s “libertarian moment.”

Tonight’s Tony Awards ceremony will celebrate the best work on Broadway. Here are some things I’ve been thinking about as this awards season unfolded:Nonprofit theaters are struggling. Short of money, nonprofit theaters around the country are staging fewer shows, shedding jobs, and in a few cases, closing. Among plays, “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding,” “Mary Jane,” and “Prayer for the French Republic” were all staged on Broadway by the nonprofit Manhattan Theater Club. (“Mary Jane” had an earlier Off Broadway run at another nonprofit, New York Theater Workshop.)

O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” — winning an Emmy for her performance as the prosecutor Marcia Clark — her career has roots in theater. And she was exposed to Broadway early on. After she moved to New York City as a child, her mother worked as a waitress at Sardi’s, a Broadway haunt that just so happens to be next door to the theater where “Appropriate” opened in December. Trump also mentioned to the CEOs a recent proposal he rolled out in Nevada, to eliminate taxes on worker tips. Trump then told the CEOs a story about how excited tipped workers were about his proposal, prompting laughter from the corporate leaders, according to multiple sources. Trump spoke for about an hour at the Business Roundtable's quarterly meeting. For Trump and the CEOs who attended, the meeting represented an effort to mend relations after some have distanced themselves from the former president. Trump told a meeting full of House Republicans earlier in the day about the idea of imposing an "all tariff policy" that would ultimately enable the U.S. to get rid of the income tax.

TikTok has briefly suspended the account of Hey Jane, a prominent telemedicine abortion service, four times without explanation. The groups and women’s health advocates say these examples, all from recent months, show why they are increasingly confused and frustrated by how major technology platforms moderate posts about abortion services. They say the companies’ policies on abortion-related content, including advertisements, have long been opaque. And when the platforms do restrict the accounts, the companies can be difficult to contact to learn why. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, an organization dedicated to abolishing abortion, said big technology companies had routinely limited its and other groups’ pro-life speech, suspending accounts and blocking ads with little explanation.
