Sistani helped push the company into the weight-loss drug space in 2023 through the $106 million acquisition of telehealth platform Sequence — which is now called WeightWatchers Clinic, and which prescribes weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy. The telehealth purchase marked something of a pivot from the group support meetings and calorie-tracking menus WeightWatchers is known for, though the company also launched a behavioral program for patients on Ozempic.

Four people were wounded at a Brooklyn train station Sunday when police officers shot at a man threatening them with a knife, authorities said. The bloody confrontation began when two officers confronted a man who entered the station without paying his fare, officials said. They followed him on to a train that had pulled into the station and fired two Tasers, but neither incapacitated the man, Maddrey said. Mayor Eric Adams visited the wounded officer in the hospital Sunday, ahead of a news conference addressing the shooting. In 2019, NYPD officers accidentally shot and killed two fellow officers while confronting crime suspects in separate on-duty incidents.

CNN —US officials on Monday touted another month of low border crossings, citing recent executive action curbing asylum access at the US southern border, even as former President Donald Trump levels campaign attacks over the Biden administration’s handling of border security. But while border crises have dogged administration officials for the better part of Joe Biden’s presidency, the number of people illegally crossing the border over the last two months has drastically fallen. Encounters between ports of entry have decreased by more than 50% and are the lowest since September 2020, according to US Customs and Border Protection. In September 2020, Border Patrol recorded 54,771 encounters along the US southern border. Administration officials cite the executive action that Biden announced in June, which largely bars migrants from seeking asylum at the US southern border, for the dramatic decline in crossings.

New York Police Commissioner Edward Caban resigned Thursday amid a federal investigation into the department's nightclub enforcement, according to sources familiar with the matter. Caban, the city’s first Latino police commissioner, took over the department in July 2023 after being tapped by Mayor Eric Adams, whose administration is the target of multiple federal investigations. Adams, speaking in an address later Thursday, announced that he was appointing Thomas Donlon as the interim police commissioner. Those whose homes were searched included First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Philip Banks III. Caban's twin brother, James Caban, who owns a nightclub security business, also had his phone seized in the corruption investigation involving the NYPD.
