REUTERS/Brian Snyder/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsWASHINGTON, Aug 28 (Reuters) - U.S. rapper Eminem has asked Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, a multimillionaire former biotech executive, to not use his music during his presidential campaign, according to a letter disclosed on Monday. "BMI has received a communication from Marshall B. Mathers, III, professionally known as Eminem, objecting to the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign's use of Eminem's musical composition (the "Eminem Works") and requesting that BMI remove all Eminem Works from the Agreement," BMI says in the letter. Ramaswamy's campaign told CNN it will comply with the request to stop using Eminem's music. The 38-year-old tech entrepreneur was at the center of many of last week's first Republican primary debate's most dramatic moments.

Republican presidential candidate and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis speaks at the first Republican candidates' debate of the 2024 U.S. presidential campaign in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S. August 23, 2023. But it showed DeSantis remained stuck in distant second place with 13% of support of Republican respondents while Trump, the former president, had 52%, marginally higher than the 47% he received in a Reuters/Ipsos poll in early August. Still, about half of Republican respondents said they were more likely to support DeSantis based on what they had heard about the debate. About four in 10 Republicans said they were more likely to back Ramaswamy or Haley based on the debate. Only 5% of Republicans said they outright backed Ramaswamy while only 4% supported Haley, similar shares to what they had before the debate.

In Trump's absence, candidates are expected to launch a fusillade of attacks on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, as competitors try to displace him as Trump's top challenger, according to strategists and aides to rival campaigns. DeSantis is seen as vulnerable after a summer slide in the polls, which have left him languishing more than 30 points behind Trump in the race. After discussions with Massachusetts, NHTSA said the state had clarified that automakers could comply with the law using a "short-range wireless compliance approach, implemented appropriately." The Massachusetts attorney general's office said it appreciated "NHTSA’s clarification today that our state law is not preempted by federal law." Automakers now must comply with the state law, the office said. The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a trade group representing major automakers including General Motors (GM.N), Toyota Motor (7203.T) and Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) declined to comment but previously argued the state law would require automakers "to remove essential cybersecurity protections from their vehicles." The White House competition council engaged behind the scenes to help reach a resolution, a senior administration official said.

Because mineral sunscreens aren't absorbed, older formulations often had a greasy feel and a white appearance. People who do not like the thicker texture of mineral sunscreens often use chemical sunscreens in creams or sprays. The ingredients form a thin protective film that absorbs UV rays and changes their structure, converting them into heat before they penetrate the skin. Extreme heat also means more sweating, and sweat can contribute to itchiness and rashes some people experience from ingredients in chemical sunscreens, Radusky added. Even in the absence of extreme heat, people with sensitive skin should opt for mineral sunscreens, the AAD advises.

White House blasts RFK Jr for 'antisemitic conspiracy theories'

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre joined a chorus of Democratic outrage at the comments from the 69-year-old son of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, a member of the Kennedy political dynasty who was assassinated while running for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1968. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2024, putting him directly in competition with Biden, who is seeking a second four-year term. Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. waves to the audience after delivering a foreign policy speech at St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, U.S., June 20, 2023. Every aspect of these comments reflect some of the most abhorrent antisemitic conspiracy theories throughout history and contributes to today's dangerous rise of antisemitism," Jean-Pierre said. The New York Post on Saturday published a video that appeared to show Kennedy speaking at a dinner in Manhattan.

Lilly expects the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to decide by the end of this year whether to approve donanemab. The company had previously reported that 24% of the overall donanemab treatment group had brain swelling. The deaths of three trial patients were linked to the treatment, researchers reported. For high tau patients, donanemab was shown to slow disease progression by about 17%, while the benefit was 35% for those with low-to-intermediate tau levels. Both medications are also being studied in large trials to see if they have an impact on delaying onset of Alzheimer's disease symptoms.

Why college is getting more expensive
  + stars: | 2023-07-16 | by ( Nicole Goodkind | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +8 min
After adjusting for currency inflation, college tuition has increased 747.8% since 1963, the Education Data Initiative found. But the net price of college — that’s the amount that students and their families are actually shelling out — has been decreasing. The average student at a private four-year college paid $32,800 for tuition and room and board last year. When adjusted for inflation, the actual price paid for private college has dropped by 11% over the past five years, according to College Board data. In a 6-3 decision the Supreme Court struck down the Biden administration's student debt forgiveness program in Biden v. Nebraska.
