"That, of course, requires more capacity, more ships in order to move global trade around the world, and that has created some shortages here in the second quarter and in the third quarter that we're dealing with at the moment," Clerc told CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe." Maersk on Wednesday reported lower year-on-year revenue in the second quarter and across the first half of the year. It also posted second-quarter underlying profit of $623 million, a drop compared to the $1.35 billion reported in the same period last year. Container demand has been more robust than expected but is expected to cool in the coming quarters, Clerc said. Maersk shares were 1.8% lower at 11:33 a.m. in London.

The Summary Studies have found that wildfire smoke negatively affects brain health. “A lot of the research on wildfire smoke has historically focused on our lungs and our hearts,” said Stephanie Cleland, an assistant professor at Simon Fraser University who studies the health impacts of wildfire smoke. Scientists think the reason wildfire smoke affects the brain is that the tiny particles within it can cross the barrier between the bloodstream and the brain, causing inflammation in the central nervous system. Other research published the same year showed that exposure to wildfire smoke during the school year reduced students’ test scores relative to a year with no smoke. “Last summer completely changed our conversation around who’s exposed to wildfire smoke,” she said.

CNN —The Justice Department said Tuesday it filed a civil lawsuit against Norfolk Southern, alleging the company knowingly created large delays for Amtrak passengers traveling between New York and New Orleans. Norfolk Southern said it has worked with Amtrak and states to expand passenger service and is committed to complying with the law. “Over the past several months with Amtrak, we have focused on the on-time performance of the Crescent passenger train. On another occasion, dispatchers made an Amtrak train wait over an hour while allowing three separate freight trains to pass, officials said. The researchers measured the impact of PM2.5 - air pollution particles that are 2.5 microns or smaller in diameter – from wildfire smoke as well as other sources, such as motor vehicles and factories. The research also indicates that associations between wildfire smoke and dementia diagnoses are most pronounced among people from racially and ethnically minoritized groups and in high-poverty areas. What you can doIndividuals can protect themselves from air pollution, including wildfire smoke, by staying indoors on poor air quality days. Home air filtration systems, including box fan air circulation, can also significantly improve indoor air quality, she said. “Our paper underscores that [wildfire smoke] is potentially an important one for individual patients and their providers who are who are curious what steps they can take.”

CNN —The stereotypical “cat lady” is one of pop culture’s most bizarre characters — and easiest punching bags. And though Vance’s description of “cat lady” didn’t include “crazy,” madness has been associated with “cat ladies” for over a century. “There is something about the independence of cats, something I like about them, which can be linked with a suspicion of independent women,” said Alice Madicott, whose book “Cat Women” prods the “crazy cat lady” stereotype. Many women proudly reclaim ‘cat lady’So-called cat ladies have been reclaiming the term for more than a century. And since Vance’s comments resurfaced this week, “childless cat lady” is now appearing on new merchandise including bumper stickers and yard signs.

Hungary has been stripped of the right to host a forthcoming gathering of European Union ministers due to its stance on the war in Ukraine. "We have to send a signal, even if it is a symbolic signal, that being against the foreign policy of the European Union ... has to have some consequences," Borrell told reporters in Brussels on Monday. Borrell said he had made the decision to hold the next gathering in Brussels after almost every EU foreign minister meeting on Monday was critical of Hungary's stated position on Kyiv, Russia and the war in Ukraine. Orban, who's seen as an ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has since provoked fury in Brussels by describing EU policy on Ukraine as "pro-war." He nevertheless told reporters that the move was not a "boycotting" of Hungary and that the country would be present at the next gathering.
