London CNN —President Joe Biden had a shaky performance in last night’s presidential debate, triggering panic in the Democrat camp. Former President Donald Trump, meanwhile, repeated multiple falsehoods while doubling down on his record of cutting taxes and hiking tariffs during his first presidential term. If repeated in a second Trump term, many economists fear that kind of agenda could stoke inflation at a critical moment and add to America’s rapidly growing debt mountain. That could pull the typical year-end election relief rally forward, said Ed Clissold, chief US strategist at Ned Davis Research. The US dollar has also been reactive — it edged higher as initial CNN polling found that Trump was viewed as the winner of the debate.

The third quarter starts on Monday with corporate earnings trends largely intact, but showing early signs of trouble in tech land. The good news: for the big-cap tech companies that are truly dominating the market ( Apple , Microsoft , Alphabet , Nvidia , etc.) Still no recession, in the economy or in earnings So far, we have a deceleration in big-cap tech earnings and clear signs the consumer wants lower prices. Here are 9 stocks that can benefit from Fed interest rate cuts

Housing We see Stanley Black & Decker as a major beneficiary of Fed rate cuts due to its link to the housing market. On the one hand, lower rates mean a bank like Wells Fargo makes less money on the money it lends. Biotech Danaher should also see some benefit as lower rates lead to improved funding dynamics for biotech companies. Like in housing, monthly payments become far more manageable at lower rates, and therefore affordability and demand, stand to increase. Salesforce , which has also highlighted more measured deal activity, might not benefit as much from lower rates.

China's exports in May blew past estimates, rising 7.6% year-over-year in dollar terms. But as cheap products flood the US and EU, Western leaders are responding with trade barriers. But as Beijing unloads its products on the world, it's turning up the heat on trade tensions. Friday's data suggests that technology products are boosting China's exports, resulting from the country's growing emphasis on advanced manufacturing. Last month, President Joe Biden announced fresh tariffs against Beijing's advanced products, including quadrupling the duties on Chinese electric vehicles.

The next wave of Disney theme park expansion in the U.S. is primed to be in California rather than Florida. The decision requires Disney to put a minimum of $1.9 billion in theme parks, lodging, entertainment, shopping and dining within 10 years. In Florida, Disney has had a more difficult time navigating the political landscape — leading to Disney World development tie-ups. In its fiscal 2024 second quarter , Disney's Parks & Experience division, which includes theme parks, resorts, cruises, hotels, and consumer products grew sales by nearly 10% to $8.93 billion and operating income by more than 12% to $2.29 billion. The "revenue driver" in question is last year's advertising blitz from large online Chinese retailers that made up about 10% of Meta's overall revenue. Evidence of slower or moderating ad spending from big retailers with ties to the world's second-largest economy could force Meta to lean into some of its other strengths. Analysts at the firm conducted a stress test — benchmarking a worst-case scenario for Meta's Chinese ad revenue in the second half of 2024. Mizuho analysts said Meta can leverage volume drivers such as increasing the ad load on Reels using artificial intelligence. Mizuho also believes special events like the U.S. presidential election and the Olympics should help support ad spending in the back half of the year.

Hopes for multiple rate cuts from the Federal Reserve this year have dimmed after recent inflation readings showed signs of stickiness.
