Where are Gen Z's tech founders?
  + stars: | 2024-10-09 | by ( Amanda Hoover | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +10 min
So where are Gen Z's tech founders? Gen Z founders and would-be founders are stepping into a vastly different tech world from that of their predecessors — a world where launching a unicorn is far more difficult, and publicly scrutinized, than it was for the garage-band generation of Jobs and Gates. Gen Z is coming of age in an era when the same Big Tech companies are diffuse and dominant. In other words, millennial founders ran so that Gen Z founders could walk. Perhaps we won't see Gen Z founders standing before a crowd and unveiling their latest shiny products anytime soon.

A television broadcasts the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Sept. 18, 2024. The headline consumer price index rose 0.61% in September from a year earlier, after August's annual increase of 0.35%, and missed a forecast rise of 0.80% in a Reuters poll. The headline inflation rate is expected to be 1.25% in October and about 1.49% in the final quarter of 2024, Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, director of the trade policy and strategy office, told a press conference. Yet despite the atrocious conditions, the fixture went ahead as planned, and after 90 minutes of less-than-inspiring football, England had beaten Czechoslovakia 1-0 at Wembley Stadium. More importantly, however, was the fact that Anderson had made history as the first Black player to represent the England national team. Up and down the country, Anderson says that racist abuse formed an ugly backdrop to some of his football career. “It’s one of those things we (Black players) all had to get through if we wanted to make a career,” he says. The British pound tumbled more than 1% against the U.S. dollar on Thursday after a The Guardian report that Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey suggested more positive inflation data could lead the central bank toward a more aggressive approach to interest rate cuts. He also said he was encouraged that cost of living pressures had not been as persistent as previously thought, according to the Guardian. The central bank held its key rate in September, after cutting it by 25 basis points in August to 5%. I spent some time alone after things ended, but by the end of 2012, I was ready to re-embrace online dating. Within a few years, my fellow millennials and I were reportedly spending 10 hours a week on dating apps. "Dating apps are designed to be a miserable experience," Stephanie Rodgers, the founder of the forthcoming dating app Verb, said. Increasingly, it feels like dating apps make things more monotonous and cumbersome to incentivize us to pay for upgrades. And while dating apps' cost in terms of harassment, threats, and violence is paid disproportionately by women, its financial cost is disproportionately paid by men.
