Hawaiian Airlines is launching a new nonstop route between Honolulu and the Cook Islands. American tourists previously had to stop in only New Zealand or Tahiti to get to the island. Hawaiian's new route will be the only link between the Cook Islands and the US, allowing travelers to more easily reach the isolated nation. In August, the nation's home airline, Air Rarotonga, launched direct flights between Papeete in Tahiti and Rarotonga, reported local publication Enjoy Cook Islands. The service comes after Air Tahiti ended its route between the two nations in 2020 after 13 years.

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby noted that more relaxed office attendance policies are also letting people travel more. The appetite for travel is persisting despite soaring airfares, which have been fueled by a pilot shortage and aircraft delivery delays. Even after Labor Day, when travel normally slows down, "it's just not the case this year, especially for international travel," she said. But if a recession hits, that could jeopardize all consumer spending — and prompt even higher-income Americans to rethink big trips. Tim Quinlan, senior economist at Wells Fargo, expects the holiday season will be the "last hurrah" for consumers.

The carrier will operate on behalf of Amazon to transport cargo, joining other operators like Sun Country Airlines. On Friday, Hawaiian Airlines announced a deal with Amazon to lease and maintain 10 Airbus A330-300F cargo jets to fly on behalf of the e-commerce giant. According to Airbus, all 10 A330s, which are bigger than the Boeing 767s, will be converted from passenger service to cargo jets. Sun Country and Silver Airways are the only other passenger airlines to fly cargo on behalf of Amazon; they use Boeing 737-800BCF and ATR 72-500F converted freighters, respectively.

WASHINGTON, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Elon Musk's SpaceX is expanding its satellite internet unit's foray into in-flight WiFi services with the rollout on Wednesday of Starlink Aviation, offering customers a $150,000 airplane antenna amid mounting competition for airborne connectivity. Starlink, SpaceX's growing network of thousands of internet satellites, will charge customers seeking broadband internet on private jets between $12,500 to $25,000 a month for the service, on top of a one-time $150,000 hardware cost, the company said on its website. Starlink Aviation will begin delivering terminals in mid-2023, it said on its website, with reservations requiring a $5,000 payment. OneWeb on Tuesday announced an agreement with in-flight broadband giant Panasonic Avionics, which offers service to some 70 airlines, to market and sell OneWeb's broadband service to airlines by mid-2023. SpaceX plans to offer Starlink internet connectivity to Hawaiian Airlines planes next year.
