The Stanley Tumbler, this year’s smash hit, is, at first glance, a win for the planet. Unlike the throwaway plastic bottles it’s meant to replace, it doesn’t generate mountains of plastic trash. “Some millennials or Gen-Z are already embarrassed to carry a Stanley,” said Casey Lewis, who writes the trendspotting newsletter, After School. Stanley sold an estimated 10 million “Quencher” water tumblers in 2023, and the company’s total sales for that year are expected to have reached $750 million, up from less than $100 million in 2020. The #StanleyCup hashtag has been viewed billions of times on TikTok.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor Gina Carano on Tuesday sued Lucasfilm and its parent The Walt Disney Co. over her 2021 firing from “ The Mandalorian,” saying she was let go for expressing right-wing views on social media. The lawsuit says Lucasfilm also hurt her future work prospects by making “maliciously false” statements about her. Carano had previously been criticized for social media posts that mocked mask wearing during the pandemic and made false allegations of voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election. She also mocked the use of gender pronouns in profiles, listing “beep/bop/boop” in her social media bio. Carano said on social media Tuesday that X had helped fund the lawsuit.

Any tool that offers a shortcut to happier relationships is bound to be popular, and the Love Languages quiz is no different. Created 30 years ago by Gary Chapman, author of "The 5 Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate," the questionnaire in the book reveals how you most like to receive love. Impett and her co-authors evaluated existing research on love languages and found that most people use and feel support by a mix of all five. A "balanced diet" of affection is needed in order to cultivate long-lasting love, the study says. "Thinking of love as a nutritionally balanced diet keeps all expressions of love on the menu and invites partners to share what they need at a given point in time," Impett says.

In December, Shannen Doherty accused Alyssa Milano of getting her fired from the show. Writing about her time working on "Charmed," Milano added in the caption that she had "absolute certainty" that "everything was documented." "The studio, Aaron Spelling, and network made the decision to protect the international hit that was Charmed," Milano added. The drama between Milano and Doherty kicked off in December 2023, when Combs said Milano threatened to sue 'Charmed' producers if they didn't fire DohertyHolly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty together in 2001. When police officers kill 17-year-old Darius Evers, his older cousin, Nate, a political activist, wants real justice, not just “another Twitter hashtag, another candlelight vigil, another graffiti memorial.” He starts reading up on older killings — “lynchings, primarily” — and bands together with Darius’s brother, Joshua, and two close friends to begin kidnapping descendants of people who had long ago committed racially motivated hate crimes. The four of them don’t free their victims until they’ve agreed to deposit hundreds of dollars weekly into a secret account. “We like to think of it as a community-building fund,” Nate tells one. “But you can consider it reparations.”Their plan works, until the day it catastrophically doesn’t, putting them all in the frame of white supremacists and vengeful cops. As everything goes up in flames, Mayfield leans all the way into the discomfort zone.

LONDON (AP) — Elon Musk's social media platform X has restored searches for Taylor Swift after temporarily blocking users from seeing some results as pornographic deepfake images of the singer circulated online. Searches for the singer's name on the site Tuesday turned up a list of tweets as normal. Sexually explicit and abusive fake images of Swift began circulating widely last week on X, formerly known as Twitter, making her the most famous victim of a scourge that tech platforms and anti-abuse groups have struggled to fix. Unlike more conventional doctored images that have troubled celebrities in the past, the Swift images appear to have been created using an artificial intelligence image-generator that can instantly create new images from a written prompt. After the images began spreading online, the singer’s devoted fanbase of “Swifties” quickly mobilized, launching a counteroffensive on X and a #ProtectTaylorSwift hashtag to flood it with more positive images of the pop star.

The hashtag #FinTok, representing just the financial TikTok community, has more than 4.7 billion views on the platform. Finfluencers appeal to Gen Z investors because they produce educational and engaging content that is instantly accessible and, even better, free, the report found.

Calvin Klein has always trafficked in high and low — in classic all-American athleticism, shot through with an untethered primal lust. Some other Calvin Klein ads fail to have the same friction, the right wrongness. There are faintly fascistic undertones in the form Calvin Klein valorizes. The closer you look at the teen (and even tween) skin care craze, the more blemishes appear. The modern rebranding of “beauty products” to “skin care” - reminiscent of that of “diets” to “lifestyles”- implies that simply leaving your skin alone is tantamount to negligence. In 2020, clinical skin care brand Murad enlisted high-school influencers to promote its rejuvenating serums on Instagram. Considering how many such products tend to feature in the average online skin care routine, the potential cost overall is breathtaking. The most worrying thing about today’s skin care craze isn’t just that the financial and emotional buy-in are completely out of proportion to the “need” being addressed.

SAN FRANCISCO—Bidding on a nearly 6-foot-tall statue of a hashtag that was being auctioned off from the longtime Twitter headquarters seemed like a fun idea to former Twitter data scientist Lauren Fratamico. Over $500 later, Fratamico won the statue. Then she had to figure out what to do with it. She enlisted her boyfriend and parents and hired two movers. They managed to lug the hefty hashtag up three flights of stairs and situate the hardly subtle piece of decor in a corner of her apartment in San Francisco.
