Israeli troops conducted “targeted raids” inside Gaza for a second consecutive night before withdrawing, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in statement Friday. Video published by the IDF showed tanks and armored vehicles moving on a road near agricultural land as well as strikes on buildings and open areas. The raid, which included aircraft and artillery strikes in the Shaja'iyah neighborhood, targeted Hamas infrastructure including "anti-tank missile launch sites, military command and control centers, as well as Hamas terrorists," the IDF said. “The troops exited the area at the end of the activity,” the statement said. Last week the literary association Litprom canceled a celebration for the Palestinian author Adania Shibli’s book “Minor Detail” at the Frankfurt Book Fair, one of the publishing world’s biggest international book fairs. A panel that Shibli, who splits her time between Jerusalem and Berlin, was to be on with her German translator, Günther Orth, was likewise canceled. Others may side with Hamas or with the Palestinian people, now under fire by Israeli forces. But taking a side in a war does not require taking positions on a work of fiction — no matter the subject matter or the author’s nationality — and that is the effect of the fair organizers’ decision. Canceling a celebration of an author may not be the same thing as banning a book, but the organizers’ decision amounts to demonizing a fiction writer and stifling her viewpoint.

CNN —NBC News is uniting with a pair of strange bedfellows for the third Republican Party primary debate. It’s no surprise that the GOP, which veered sharply to the right during Donald Trump’s presidency, would select Salem and Rumble as partners. Before Trump upended America’s politics, Salem was a run-of-the-mill conservative media organization. When I asked NBC News on Monday if the network was actually comfortable collaborating on the third GOP debate with Salem and Rumble, given each company’s history, a spokesperson declined comment. Most conservative media outlets are not what they were pre-2016.

CNN —Alicia Keys has responded to backlash over a recent social media post that some deemed insensitive in light of the war between Israel and Hamas. ?”“Tell me your truth …I’ve had my eyes on paragliding,” she wrote using “side-eye” emojis and the hashtag, “Monday energy.”Keys was criticized for using the word “paragliding” given that Hamas terrorists used paragliders in their Oct. 7 attack on Israel. “The post I shared was COMPLETELY unrelated in any way to the recent devastating loss of innocent lives,” Keys later wrote on her Instagram stories on Monday. “There’s talk of an antisemitic post that my dear friend Alicia Keys had up on her instagram,” he wrote in the caption of a photo of him amd Keys embracing. “I spoke to Alicia and she was horrified to learn what the word implied and immediately took it down.

CNN —Twenty years ago this month, I was a young Marine lieutenant marching down a California street in an Iraq War victory parade. It was the right decision to kill insurgents without losing more Marines, but leveling a school doesn’t win you a lot of hearts and minds. To be sure, there are some fundamental differences between Israel’s war with Hamas and America’s war in Iraq. Our First Marine Division motto in Iraq, under General Mattis, was “no better friend, no worse enemy.” I want Hamas to know no greater enemy than the Israeli Army, and I want to see every Hamas fighter defeated. There are a lot of peace-loving Palestinians in Gaza who loathe Hamas, but it’s up to the Israeli Army to prove themselves better friends.
