CNN —More than a decade after he became the first former migrant worker to soar into space as a NASA astronaut, José Hernández reached another milestone this month. Hernández, an engineer, made history aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in 2009, the first shuttle mission sending two Latino astronauts into space. The film portrays Hernández’s perseverance as the space agency rejected Hernández’s astronaut applications 11 times before selecting him for the program in 2004. The victory comes after a tumultuous month following former Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales’ unwanted kiss on Jennifer Hermoso during the title celebrations. Amid the ongoing fallout, La Roja found a way past Sweden in the UEFA Nations League game, clinching victory at almost the last possible moment as Mariona Caldentey scored from the penalty spot deep into injury time. Earlier this week, 20 players named to the national team reiterated their refusal to play the game against Sweden. England and Scotland players wore similar wristbands during their own UEFA Nations League game on Friday, once again displaying the solidarity among female soccer players that has been evident throughout the month-long scandal. September 23 - The visiting Chicago White Sox will attempt to end their three-game losing streak on Saturday when they face the Boston Red Sox in the second game of a three-game series. The White Sox (58-96) have lost 10 of their past 13 games and 15 of their past 20. "When you got a guy that doesn't miss a start for four years, that's pretty special," White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six in 6 1/3 innings during Boston's 3-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. Pivetta has made seven career appearances against the White Sox (four starts) and is 1-0 with a 2.22 ERA.

The team's long-running conflict with their association was exacerbated when former Spanish FA (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales kissed player Jennie Hermoso after the World Cup final in Sydney. The contention of Rubiales, who subsequently resigned, that the kiss was consensual was strongly refuted by Hermoso and the incident is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation in Spain. However, Caldentey's penalty silenced the fans as she snatched victory for the visitors. Very proud of our team and how we delivered this win with heart and grit." On a whim, I told myself that on my next attempt, success or failure was irrelevant. At some point, I framed this experience for myself in terms of simple arithmetic: When I added (determination, grit, self-confidence, desire), I failed. When I took away (the desire for success), my body moved with greater fluidity and naturalness. I enjoyed it more as well, which, as an athlete of 30 years, I didn’t think was possible. Reading about what top athletes considered the ideal state of mind led me to a few surprising conclusions.

How to cook mussels at home
  + stars: | 2023-09-17 | by ( Casey Barber | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
How to prepare musselsRemember that mussels are alive until you cook them, and they need to stay alive and breathing until they’re ready to hit the pan. If you won’t be cooking and eating your mussels immediately, use the colander method as noted above to store the mussels until you’re ready to use them. How to cook musselsUnlike oysters, which take a bit of practice and skill to shuck, it’s simple to steam mussels. Add the cleaned mussels, cover the pot and cook for about 8-10 minutes until all the mussels have opened. • Mussels in tomato-garlic broth• Spanish mussels with hard chorizo and cream• Beer-steamed mussels• White wine and olive oil-steamed mussels• Mussels in coconut milkCasey Barber is a food writer, artist and editor of the website Good Food Stories.

Last Saturday’s final between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka exemplified some of the very best and very worst of the tournament. Their contrast of styles was on display for all to see: Sabalenka’s power and single-mindedness against Gauff’s ability to endure and problem-solve. Gauff’s win, however, was immediately understood as symbolizing American core values such as determination, grit and self-belief. This reflexive American triumphalism turns any final into little more than a prologue, with more and better promised in the future. It just sells the product; a grasping for greatness in the moment instead of simply letting the moment be.

Pinned Under the Bodies of Men

In all our years together, I had failed to comprehend him as he was — extremely fit and strong. None of this registered because I had never encountered his body that way. When he swept my body under, pinned me down, I felt the fright I knew all too well and did not care to know again. On me was a body, scarily strong, but one I knew intimately, belonging to a man who loves me. His overpowering jiu-jitsu lock was something I had only ever experienced as an embrace.

It was April 2020, and Johnson had been furloughed from her full-time job as a daycare salesperson, where she made $70,000 per year. Even better, she adds: She spent less than 30 minutes per day on the side hustle, running it entirely on her phone, she says. The following year, she made $90,000 off Etsy and decided to run the online store full-time, she says. Here's how Johnson developed her side hustle, giving herself more free time and turning it into three different income streams. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The grit Baker Mayfield showed Tampa Bay down the stretch of his debut sure outweighed the rough start. Being an executive at one of Wall Street's most powerful firms — and a mother of five — requires patience, grit and impeccable time management. Shekhinah Bass started working at Goldman Sachs when she was just 22 years old, and says sharpening her time management skills has helped her be more productive and avoid burnout as she rose in the ranks at the firm. The 39-year-old is now Goldman Sachs' head of talent strategy within the firm's human capital management division. The longer Bass has worked at Goldman Sachs, the more she's realized that you can only achieve work-life balance "if you're deliberate and proactive about how you set boundaries," she says. There's one time management hack, in particular, that Bass swears by to maintain a strong work-life balance: timeboxing.
