CNN —The US carried out a round of strikes in Yemen against the Iran-backed Houthis on Wednesday evening, according to three US defense officials, targeting weapons storage facilities, including underground facilities. The strikes were carried out by B-2 Spirit bombers, according to one of the officials, marking the first time the US has used the strategic stealth bomber to attack the Houthis in Yemen since the beginning of the US campaign. Over the past year, the US has repeatedly struck or intercepted Houthi drones and missiles in an effort to protect ships and degrade the Houthi arsenal. In September, the Houthis claimed to have launched approximately two dozen ballistic and cruise missiles and drones against three US destroyers. The Israeli military said on the latter attack, Israel had intercepted a surface-to-air missile fired from Yemen toward central Israel.

Russia is proposing alternative payment systems and commodity centers. Challenges include entrenched dollar dominance and existing global trading systems' liquidity. Other than championing alternative payment systems based in non-dollar currencies, Russia is also pitching the set-up of centers for mutual trade in commodity resources. Moving BRICS trade to trading centers within the bloc would also involve the use of local currencies and facilitate a move away from using the dollar for trade, according to the document. Russia faces an uphill battle in changing the basics of dollar-dependent financial trading systems.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who is looking to blunt Trump’s attacks on immigration, has vowed to revive that bill and sign it into law if she wins the White House. “Kamala Harris claimed the border was ‘secure’ just days after Laken Riley’s illegal immigrant killer Jose Ibarra crossed into the nation. Ibarra was caught at the border and then released into the country by Kamala Harris,” Trump’s campaign said in a statement. “President Trump will secure the border and stop catch-and-release. I put my kids above my career and social life, making my whole life about motherhood. Now that my kids are out of the house and I'm alone, I'm struggling to understand who I am. Second, I advise them, especially mothers, not to make their children the center of their world. As my children grow and mature, I'm now working on figuring out who I am without them. But I want all mothers to remember that there will be life after your kids leave.

And this is a matchup that could happen again, in two months, thanks to the expansion of the College Football Playoff. Ohio State had the game’s only turnover. Since these teams first met 66 years ago, Ohio State won the first nine matchups, but Oregon has claimed the last two. In previous eras, Saturday would have effectively served as a knockout game for the loser’s chances of advancing to the College Football Playoff. But Saturday’s back-and-forth result was an example of why the expansion of the playoff this year — to 12 teams — could endure as a good thing.

A Trump campaign official pointed to efforts to expand the Trump tent with surrogates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tulsi Gabbard and Iowa Gov. The Harris campaign also hosted community meals that fed 120 families, and it is organizing similar events, spending more than $30,000 on relief efforts. Sean "Diddy" Combs is expected to appear Thursday afternoon before the federal judge in New York assigned to oversee his trial, which the embattled hip-hop mogul’s lawyers would like to begin next spring. Deadlines may be set for various issues related to the trial of Combs, 54, who pleaded not guilty last month to charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. A lawyer said Combs “vehemently denies” claims related to that case. Another lawyer for Combs, Marc Agnifilo, has similarly denied the criminal allegations against him. Hurricane Milton has exploded into a monster storm as it soaks up its natural fuel, warm water, in the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center had warned that Milton was likely to strengthen into a major hurricane, defined by minimum sustained winds of 111 mph, and its status was confirmed at 8 a.m. Monday. Up to 8 inches of rain was forecast, with storm surges of up to 15 feet possible for coastal cities, they said. The latest hurricane is a rare product of the southwest Gulf of Mexico, rather than the Caribbean or the Atlantic. Milton started as Tropical Depression 14, in the Gulf’s Bay of Campeche, sheltered behind the western coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula.

Of the 175 key ETFs that we track, just one made a new all-time high on Tuesday – the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) . IGV, thus, was the first major technology ETF to hit new highs after a very turbulent past few months. Before Tuesday, IGV's last all-time high happened way back in November 21 (nearly three years ago), when the ETF hit an intra-day high of $89.76. For some context, while the SPDR Technology ETF (XLK) hit a low on the same day in November 202222, its snapback unfolded much more quickly. XLK hit a new all-time high way back in July 2023 and has kept going.

A law professor said the ruling shows how antitrust law is used against Big Tech companies. Management and law experts told Business Insider the ruling highlights how antitrust law is being used against Big Tech companies — and could cost Google billions of dollars in lost revenue. Historically, he said, liberal judges tended to favor antitrust law more than conservative ones. When Epic Games' case against Apple was similarly appealed, the Supreme Court denied requests to hear it, leaving Apple with its partial victory. Experts say phone calls can resolve conflicts better than digital communication. AdvertisementPicking up the phone really is the best way to figure things out when issues arise with colleagues, experts say. "And, I think, to me, it's an example of how often the best thing to do is just to pick up the phone." Phone calls, in comparison, allow for real-time, personal discussions "where tone and emotion are conveyed much more clearly," McLean said. Brian Niccol and Elliott Hill are taking over Starbucks and Nike , respectively, just as a key market that weighed on their predecessors gets a boost. As China's economic stimulus takes shape, it could end up helping these global brands. Nike and Starbucks in China While the exact plans for Niccol and Hill are still unclear, the Chinese market seems like it will be an area of focus. At Starbucks, the company's leadership team in China has already been reshuffled since Niccol took over in September. Still, a rebound for China's consumer won't necessarily boost sales for Starbucks and Nike without better execution.
