About 1,200 of the state's 7,900 gas stations, or nearly 16%, are currently without fuel, according to data from GasBuddy. Floridians are still recovering from Hurricane Helene, which devastated the state in late September, and now are scrambling to prepare or escape the projected storm areas. Hurricane Milton is expected to bring life-threatening storm surges, as well as isolated tornadoes and dangerous flooding. Rain has already hit the Tampa metropolitan area and winds are likely to increase Wednesday afternoon.

Lan Sak, Thailand AP —Mourners wept and monks prayed at a cremation ceremony Tuesday in a small town in central Thailand for 23 young students and teachers who died in last week’s bus fire on a school field trip. A large cremation site was set up close to the temple in Lan Sak town whose compound hosts the school that was attended by the victims. Six teachers and 39 elementary and junior high school students were on the bus when it caught fire on October 1 on a highway in Pathum Thani, a northern suburb of Bangkok. Transport officials were being scrutinized after information emerged that the bus had passed an inspection about four months before the fire. Police believe that a gas tube from one of the canisters had come loose, with sparks then setting the leaking gas on fire.

Nearly 16% of gas stations in Florida had run out of fuel as of late morning Tuesday as people flee north to escape the path of Hurricane Milton, according to data from GasBuddy. About 1,200 of the state's 7,900 gas stations are currently without fuel, according to the data. The storm is forecast to remain "an extremely dangerous hurricane" through landfall in Florida, according to the forecasters. Gas stations are running out of fuel and lines are long but there is not a shortage in the state, DeSantis said. Terminals with power, however, could begin distribution of fuel Saturday and Sunday depending on worker and truck driver availability as well as whether local gas stations are working, he said.
