Read previewMy maternal grandmother, Theresa "Terry" Grady, just celebrated her 95th birthday in June. When my four younger siblings and I were younger, we always thought our grandmother was a "cool" grandma. Looking back on her wonderful life, it's easy to see what has helped her thrive well into her 90s. If there is one thing my grandma taught me over the years, it's the importance of family.

It's caused tension in our marriage because my spouse and I clash over our expenditure on our kids. However, now that I'm married with kids, mocking my frugal upbringing has become a bit of a family joke. We constantly clash over how much we spend on the kids. Left to his own devices, my husband could easily spend between $500 and $700 on each child. In an ideal world, kids wouldn't bully each other for not wearing the "right" label.

Gone are the days of schoolyard crushes, and in their place are weekend dates and dinner table talks about my kids' relationships. I've genuinely liked the kids my teens have dated, so it's been sad seeing each of those relationships come to an end. I've seen both kids come out of their break-ups wiser and more sure of themselves, and that's taken the sting away just a bit. Terri Peters' kids recently started dating and have gone through breakups. It's also been rewarding to see my kids grow and learn as a result of each breakup.

U.S. stocks fell sharply Monday as part of a global selloff fueled by mounting recession fears among investors. Further roiling global markets is unusual currency trading out of Japan. The S&P 500 — a measure of the broad U.S. stock market — was down about 2% in early trading, putting it 7.5% below the index's all-time high close on July 16. In fact, you'd be wise to ignore short-term ups and downs in the stock market altogether — at least according to Buffett. CNN —Maybe a hug from a parent no longer solves problems for a teen as it did in their childhood. But when it comes to teenage mental health, adults can do a lot to help, according to new data. The survey found that 1 in 6 parents have a hard time comforting and communicating with their teen. ridvan_celik/E+/Getty ImagesThe worsening mental health and rising stakes of teens often puts parents in a difficult place. “This would rank among the top 10 openings of all-time and marks the sixth-highest Friday ever reported at the box office,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore. An over-performing box office makes a comebackAlthough the summer box office was off to a sputtering start after a tepid spring, there have been several blockbusters invigorating the industry. But less than three weeks after its release, the year-over-year domestic box office revenue deficit shrunk from 27% to 19%. Now, the deficit stands at 16.9% and it could keep shrinking depending on how “Deadpool & Wolverine” performs. Although analysts are predicting a more lukewarm total for 2024, the successful summer movie slate is positioning the industry to further close the gap.

CNN —Portugal’s Nuno Borges played the match of his life to comfortably beat Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-2 in the final of the Swedish Open and claim the first ATP title of his career. Borges’ victory in his maiden ATP Tour final – against Nadal on clay, no less – lifts him to a career high of No. 161, was playing in his first final since the 2022 French Open, but two mammoth three-set victories in the previous two rounds had perhaps taken their toll on the 38-year-old. However, Nadal revealed after losing in the first round of the French Open that he is open to continuing his career should his body continue to improve. The 22-time grand slam champion is due to compete in the singles and doubles with defending French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz.

Can Boeing get back to its glory days?

Then on Jan. 5, about six minutes and 16,000 feet into a packed flight out of Portland, Oregon, a door plug blew out of a nearly new Boeing 737 Max 9. The Federal Aviation Administration barred Boeing from increasing output of its Max planes and stepped up hands-on inspections at production plants. The 737 was dubbed "Baby Boeing" and went on to become the company's bestseller, helping to make Boeing the largest U.S. exporter. Pilots in those Boeing planes fought against a flight-control system, the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, that pushed the nose of the planes downward repeatedly. Boeing has said it aims to increase rates to about 50 Max planes a month in the next few years.

So whether you have confidence or succeed, even at a small task, it leads to success and then even more confidence. “The greatest source of success is success,” Robertson said. If confidence is on one end of the spectrum, anxiety is at the other, Robertson said. “Confidence is linked to the action systems of the brain,” Robertson said. Why do tennis players wear white?

A muse to the designer Jean Patou, Lenglen became tennis’ first fashion icon with her signature headscarf and then-shocking shorter hems. Anne White was banned from wearing a white catsuit at Wimbledon four decades before Serena Williams caused a stir with a similar cut at the French Open. Ian Kington/AFP/Getty ImagesAt the US, French and Australian Open, players have challenged definitions of what tennis clothes can be thanks to looser rules (subject to referee opinion). Though she cited its circulation benefits following a severe blood-clot scare with the birth of her child, the French Open said it would bar the style in the future. However, the Women’s Tennis Association formally allowed it, and Williams continued to wear versions of the bodysuit at the 2019 and 2021 Australian Opens, normalizing the agile and simplified cut for the tennis court.
