Biden aides say they do not expect the president or his campaign to take on the age question more directly. Messina compared the special counsel's report to former FBI Director James Comey's October 2016 announcement that he was further investigating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's handling of classified emails. Beyond celebrating the release of the special counsel's embarrassing descriptions of Biden, Trump won a new trove of delegates in Nevada's Thursday caucuses, where he ran unopposed. Barry Goodman, a Biden fundraiser from Michigan, said he’s had some donors “take a wait and see approach” about supporting Biden, even before the special counsel’s announcement.

Donald Trump on Monday lashed out at the financial monitor overseeing the Trump Organization and urged a judge to fire her days after she reported a range of issues — and flagged a questionable $48 million loan — in the former president's New York civil business fraud case. New York Attorney General Letitia James has asked Engoron to order that Jones continue to monitor the Trump Organization for at least five years as part of his judgment in the case. Robert made that argument three days after Jones submitted a report to Engoron accusing the Trump Organization of providing incomplete, inconsistent or incorrect information about its financial disclosures. In a footnote in that report, Jones said she identified a loan between Trump himself and an entity related to Trump Chicago Tower that later turned out not to exist. She also seeks five-year bans with the same conditions for Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, who took over the Trump Organization after their father became president in 2017.

By Hannah Lang(Reuters) - Joseph Tacopina, an attorney on former U.S. President Donald Trump's legal team, on Monday said he will no longer represent him in a criminal case in Manhattan related to alleged hush money payments or a separate appeal of a civil case. Trump has pled not guilty to the charges, and will face a trial this year, although the timing is uncertain. Asked about Tacopina's shift, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung told Reuters, "President Trump has the most experienced, qualified, disciplined, and overall strongest legal team ever assembled as he continues to fight for America and Americans against these partisan, Crooked Joe Biden-led election interference hoaxes." Tacopina is one of several Trump lawyers to have stopped representing him in ongoing cases. At least three members of his legal team in Florida stepped down after Trump was indicted in June on charges he unlawfully kept national-security documents when he left office.

The New York attorney general on Friday asked a judge to ban former President Donald Trump from the state's real estate industry for life, ban him from serving as an officer or director of a New York corporation and for him to be fined $370 million. Attorney General Letitia James is also seeking a five-year ban on Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, Donald Trump's sons, from working in New York's real estate industry, according to a new court filing. James accuses Donald Trump, his two sons and the Trump Organization of a broad scheme to misstate the true values of various real estate assets for financial benefit, including better loan terms. The attorney general alleges that Donald Trump falsely inflated his statements of net worth by anywhere between $812 million and $2.2 billion because of those false valuations. The fine James seeks includes $168 million in interest payments the former president allegedly avoided through fraud.

A New York judge on Friday denied a request by former President Donald Trump and his co-defendants for a mistrial in the $250 million civil business fraud case against them. The ruling came two days after attorneys for Trump Sr., Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, the Trump Organization and its top executives argued that the case had been undermined by political bias. In addition to seeking $250 million in damages, James wants to permanently bar Trump and his two adult sons from running a New York business. Judge Rejects Trump’s Motion for Mistrial

The New York judge overseeing Donald Trump’s $250 million civil fraud case rejected a motion for a mistrial from the former president and his co-defendants on Friday, calling the arguments provided by their defense team to throw out the case “utterly without merit.”“In good conscience, I cannot sign a proposed order to show cause that is utterly without merit, and upon which subsequent briefing would therefore be futile,” Judge Arthur Engoron wrote. Earlier this week, Trump, his adult sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, the Trump Organization and its top executives argued that the case had been undermined by political bias – specifically, that Engoron and his law clerk had “tainted the proceedings” and that the evidence was “tangible and overwhelming.”Their 30-page motion for dismissal points to news stories from NPR, The New York Times and others that Engoron shared in his high school alumni newsletter, which they claimed are disparaging of Trump, and to political contributions to Democratic groups made by his law clerk, which they called “partisan activities.”They also included photos of Engoron and his clerk seated next to each other and accused them of “co-judging” the case. “Such arguments are nonsensical,” Engoron wrote. Editorial Cartoons on Donald Trump View All 692 ImagesEngoron imposed a partial gag order on Trump last month after the former president posted a photo of the judge’s law clerk – who also sits next to the judge – alongside Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and referred to her as “Schumer’s girlfriend.” The order barred Trump, his defense team and the prosecution team from making public statements about his staff. A New York judge on Thursday temporarily suspended a gag order barring former President Donald Trump from commenting on court staff in his $250 million civil business fraud trial. She seeks $250 million in damages and wants to permanently bar Trump Sr., Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump from running a New York business. Trump has already violated the narrow gag order twice, catching a total of $15,000 in fines. That gag order barred Trump from making statements targeting the prosecutors, likely witnesses and court staff in the case. Former US President Donald Trump appeared in court on Tuesday for the third week of a civil fraud trial in New York, on October 17, 2023. Donald Trump and his co-defendants asked a judge Wednesday to grant a mistrial in the $250 million civil business fraud case that threatens the former president's business empire. In a court filing, Trump, his two adult sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, the Trump Organization and its top executives argued that "the evidence of apparent and actual bias" in the case is "tangible and overwhelming." The office of New York Attorney General Letitia James, who brought the sweeping fraud case, accused Trump of "trying to dismiss the truth and the facts" by throwing out the trial. Trump's lawyers had previously told the court that they would seek a mistrial, the latest in a series of efforts to either halt or scrap the fraud case.

In preparing financial statements, also known as compilations, accountants need only documentation used to determine the value of assets, like Trump’s skyscrapers, golf courses and other properties. The firm cut ties with Trump last year and said his financial statements “should no longer be relied upon” after James raised concerns about their accuracy. James, a Democrat, alleges Trump, his company and top executives exaggerated his wealth by billions of dollars on the financial statements by inflating property values. On the stand Tuesday, Flemmons echoed Trump’s longstanding assertion that disclaimers on the financial statements insulated him from liability for discrepancies or misstatements. Trump has argued that, if anything, his financial statements undervalued how much his properties were worth.
