The list of official participants in this year’s fifth edition of Upstate Art Weekend, a sprawling festival that embraces nearly every art event or exhibition happening north of New York City over the next four days, has reached 145. It’s a dramatic rise from an informal band of some two dozen arts centers and galleries just four years ago, and it now spans 10 counties in New York State. Some events spill over from last year, but there are many new developments. At the Zero Art Fair in Elizaville, nearby, visitors are welcome to take home one available work per day for free under an innovative contract that vests ownership over five years, after which time title will pass to the new owner. The contract was developed for the artist William Powhida (who founded that fair with the artist Jennifer Dalton).

Jefferies has identified a lesser-known and potentially undervalued Taiwanese company poised to benefit from the growing artificial intelligence sector. The investment bank said Insyde Software, listed on the Taipei Exchange, is well positioned to capitalize on the increasing demand for AI-enabled personal computers and servers. Jefferies initiated coverage of Insyde with a research note titled "Firmware Leader and Yet-to-be Discovered AI Play" on July 9 with a "Buy" rating and a price target that suggests a potential 42% upside from current levels. However, the stock has already risen by more than 30% since the ratings action, according to FactSet data, which shows the stock currently offers 17% upside potential. Founded in 1998, Insyde has established itself in the firmware industry, commanding over 50% market share in the personal computer segment, Jefferies suggests.

But, if NASCAR is known for anything, it’s the loud V8 internal combustion engines that power the race car. That’s why NASCAR wants to make it very clear that gasoline-burning race cars are in no immediate danger of extinction. ABB is also heavily involved in Formula E, the electric racing series affiliated with Formula 1. With many changes over the years, modern NASCAR race cars bear little resemblance to the Toyotas and Chevrolets that typical Americans own. This time, designers wanted to maintain that resemblance between the race car and the vehicles fans drive, which are, increasingly, SUVs.

In a deal that shows just how hard things are getting in the luxury retail space, Saks Fifth Avenue's parent is purchasing rival department store company Neiman Marcus for $2.65 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported. Amazon — which has long tried to boost its luxury offerings as part of its "everything store" concept — and Salesforce are getting in on it, too, with both taking minority stakes in the new company, Saks Global. As e-commerce and the power of luxury conglomerates like LVMH and Kering have grown, department stores are facing diminishing returns. If not, rather than schlep back to the department store, why not go straight to the source, the Loewe boutique? It also makes the new company's leader — Marc Metrick, who runs Saks' e-commerce business — a natural choice.

On the cover — her second for the fashion magazine — Dr. Biden appears in a cream-colored Ralph Lauren silk tuxedo dress, lensed by the veteran fashion photographer Norman Jean Roy. Vogue, too, reached out to the first lady following the debate amid calls for the president to step down as the Democratic nominee. And, as she told Vogue, she’s seen the career-related frustrations of military spouses due to the often transient nature of their lives, so she has supported flexibility for remote work for some government jobs. “And this is where the magic happens.”“We don't need more chaos,” First Lady Biden told Vogue.

A major vacancy in the fashion world has been filled. On Thursday, Lanvin, the oldest French couture house in continual existence, named Peter Copping its new artistic director, an appointment that indicates a potential return to pure designers after a period in which the buzz was focused on content creators. He has spent the last five years working behind the scenes as head of couture at Balenciaga, where he was instrumental in orchestrating the much celebrated return of couture to that house. (The announcement of his appointment at Lanvin came the day after Balenciaga’s latest couture show, attended by Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts, among others.) Previously, he had been the handpicked heir to Oscar de la Renta before Mr. de la Renta’s death roiled his succession plans, and the head designer at Nina Ricci.
