CNN —The Federal Aviation Administration has published new rules that it calls “the final piece of the puzzle” toward allowing half-helicopter, half-airplane, electric “air taxis” to start whizzing through the skies. “For the last 80 years, we’ve had two types – rotor and fixed wing,” Whitaker said. “We now have a third type.”Known as electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, or eVTOLs, the FAA now recognizes the designs as falling under its newly created powered lift category. Joby hopes to bring its aircraft to market by 2025, but it has yet to be certified by the FAA to carry paying passengers. “Delivering the rules ahead of schedule is testament to the dedication, coordination and hard work of the rulemaking team.”

Advanced air defenses and anti-ship cruise missiles may also be on the table. Iran has ordered Su-35 fighters and also wants S-400 Triumf air defenses to, among other things, face Israel's superior missiles and air force. If all these deals do go forward, they would enhance the military capabilities of Iran and its allied militias. While the type of equipment was not specified, it could be the S-400 Iran has long sought. Iran is seeking Russia's S-400 air defenses.

While charts like Carnival Corp. (CCL) have once again become overbought, the strength of the recent breakout suggests they may just be getting started. The longer a resistance level is tested, the more meaningful it becomes when the price finally breaks above this price ceiling. CNN —The US carried out a round of strikes in Yemen against the Iran-backed Houthis on Wednesday evening, according to three US defense officials, targeting weapons storage facilities, including underground facilities. The strikes were carried out by B-2 Spirit bombers, according to one of the officials, marking the first time the US has used the strategic stealth bomber to attack the Houthis in Yemen since the beginning of the US campaign. Over the past year, the US has repeatedly struck or intercepted Houthi drones and missiles in an effort to protect ships and degrade the Houthi arsenal. In September, the Houthis claimed to have launched approximately two dozen ballistic and cruise missiles and drones against three US destroyers. The Israeli military said on the latter attack, Israel had intercepted a surface-to-air missile fired from Yemen toward central Israel.

I think drivers in Austin and Atlanta will be in a similar position next year as Waymo has plans to launch there, too. I think Uber wants to be the central hub for all transportation, even if that means it eventually replaces human drivers entirely.

The United States announced it is sending an advanced anti-missile system and a number of troops to Israel, deepening America's involvement in the spiraling conflict as the region readies for Israeli retaliatory strikes against Iran. The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, known as THAAD, usually requires about 100 troops to operate, and has six truck mounted launchers, with eight interceptors on each launcher, as well as a powerful radar. Retired Brigadier General Zvika Haimovich, former head of the Israeli Air Defense, said Israel expected even an bigger barrage of missiles from Iran in "the next phase," after Tehran fired more than 180 missiles at Israel on Oct 1. But the presence of U.S. equipment and troops inside Israel would deepen the nation's involvement in the crisis. The arrival of THAAD and U.S. support might ease the burden on Israel's defense system, but Israel's latest reliance on its allies for protection may also speak to the cracks in its often impenetrable armor.

I sailed on Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Breakaway this year, which were built 14 years apart. Breakaway provides more modern amenities and dining options than the older and tinier Sky. While I have yet to experience the company's extremely attraction-heavy Norwegian Prima class, I have sailed on the more bare-bones Norwegian Sky and Norwegian Breakaway. Breakaway launched in 2013 and is tied as Norwegian's sixth biggest ship at about 145,600 gross tons. But at twice the size of Sky, it has modern attractions and plentiful dining that offer a fair amount of added fun that the tinier ship lacks.

But after launching hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel in two separate barrages, what has Iran to show for it? The October strike by 180 ballistic missiles saw a higher percentage of rockets penetrate defenses. All of which raises a question: is the danger of ballistic missiles overhyped? The CDC randomly inspects and scores cruise ships to prevent the spread of stomach viruses. The 11 dirtiest ships this year so far scored 89 or less, including one that received 62 points. For cruise ships, scoring an 85 out of 100 on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Vessel Sanitation Program review is considered a failure. The CDC has reported 10 bacterial and viral outbreaks on cruise ships since the start of 2024.
