Ahead of Combs' expected afternoon court appearance, his lawyers offered a $50 million bond to keep him out of jail before his trial. "In short, if the defendant wanted to flee, he has the money, manpower, and tools to do so quickly and without detection," prosecutors wrote in the filing. But in the past, Combs has pressured security staff to stay quiet about his activities, prosecutors wrote. "When a member of hotel security staff intervened, the defendant attempted to offer the hotel security officer a stack of cash to ensure his silence," prosecutors wrote. "After the security guard refused the defendant's bribe, and after coordination between the defendant and his employees, the defendant's staff contacted other members of hotel security."

In a statement Wednesday, his attorney said Combs “is shocked and disappointed” by Richard’s lawsuit. According to the suit, Richard tried multiple times to intervene, offered Ventura support and encouraged her to leave Combs. Like other lawsuits, including Ventura’s, Richard’s suit depicts Combs as violent and controlling. Throughout the productions of the “Making the Band” series, the suit alleges, she and the members of Danity Kane were deprived of basic needs such as adequate food and sleep. The suit also alleges Richard attended parties at Combs’ houses, where she witnessed what she believed were inebriated underage girls being sexually violated by Combs and his guests.

However, experts say there is more to Beyoncé’s snub than the industry’s longtime erasure of Black artists’ contributions to country music. In contrast, rapper Post Malone made his first foray into country music this year and opted for a more mainstream country music sound, tapping Nashville giants to assist in his project. As one of the largest pop stars in the world, her career is not dependent on Nashville or the Country Music Association, which runs the CMA Awards. Neither Beyoncé nor the Country Music Association responded to a request for comment on the matter. The CMA Awards snub has opened up a dialogue about where the country music industry can go from here.

The filing further alleges that Richard witnessed Combs “brutally beat” his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, including instances where Richard claims to have seen Combs choke, strangle, slap, punch and strike Venture with objects. “On many occasions, Ms. Richard tried to intervene, offering Ms. Ventura support and encouragement to leave Mr. Combs,” the claim states. Combs was seen earlier this year in a 2016 video published by CNN grabbing, shoving, dragging and kicking Ventura. While working with Combs in this capacity, the claim alleges Richard witnessed multiple instances of Combs committing acts of physical violence against Ventura. Another lawsuit accused his son Christian Combs of sexual assault, and Sean Combs is accused of aiding and abetting.

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway recently debuted a new stake in beauty retailer Ulta Beauty , a deep value bet that validated a belief that the stock was significantly oversold. The Omaha-based conglomerate unveiled a $266 million bet on Ulta Beauty in a regulatory filing late Wednesday, prompting the shares to climb 11% the next day. Many view the purchase as a classic value buy after the beauty supply chain's stock suffered a big sell-off this year amid slowing demand and increased competition. Warren Buffett's head-turning sale of his big Apple stake did not faze Wall Street analysts' conviction in the iPhone maker. Bank of America noted that Apple shares rallied 23% in the second quarter despite Berkshire's selling, showing the stock's strength. AAPL YTD mountain Apple Bernstein's Toni Sacconaghi believes Buffett started trimming Apple because the stock was getting too expensive for the value investor. Bernstein pointed out that Berkshire built most of its Apple position at a 15 times multiple, while selectively adding at 20 times earnings or below and trimming at 30 times earnings and above. Apple traded above 30 times earnings on average in the second quarter.

The selling activity picked up significantly last quarter though with Berkshire offloading more than $75 billion in stocks in the period and raising the conglomerate's cash pile to a record $277 billion. Many Buffett followers view the accelerated sale of his top holdings as a pessimistic call on markets and the economy. Buffett was selling stocks last quarter when the S & P 500 rose to an all-time high in anticipation that the U.S. would skirt a recession while squashing inflation. When Buffett trimmed the Apple stake by 13% in the first quarter, he hinted at the Berkshire annual meeting in May that it was for tax reasons. But the magnitude of this selling last quarter suggests it could be more than just a tax-saving strategy.

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway dumped nearly half of its gigantic Apple stake last quarter in a surprising move for the famously long-term-focused investor. Even after the selling Apple remains the largest stock stake by far for Berkshire. Buffett had trimmed the Apple stake by 13% in the first quarter and hinted at the Berkshire annual meeting in May that it was for tax reasons. Berkshire’s Apple holding was once so big that it took up half of its equity portfolio. Berkshire began buying the stock in 2016 under the influence of Buffett’s investing lieutenants Ted Weschler and Todd Combs.

Trenton, New Jersey AP —New Jersey’s ban on the AR-15 rifle is unconstitutional, but the state’s cap on magazines over 10 rounds passes constitutional muster, a federal judge said Tuesday. “Bans on so-called ‘assault weapons’ are immoral and unconstitutional. He added: “We look forward to pressing our arguments on appeal.”Several challenges to state assault weapons bans have cited the Bruen decision. A gun rights group has challenged Connecticut’s landmark 2013 gun control law, passed after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, that bans assault weapons, including certain AR-15-style rifles and large capacity magazines. The state’s assault weapons ban dates to 1990 and includes various other weapons, but Sheridan focused on the Colt AR-15, citing the plaintiffs’ concentration on that weapon in their court filings, and the law specifying that make of the rifle.
