CNN —Zhiying Zeng’s eyes begin to sparkle and her gestures become more animated as she recounts the day her lifelong Olympic dream came true. Even in China, by far the world’s most dominant table tennis nation, Zeng’s talents were evident from an early age. When she was 16, she was called up to the Chinese table tennis team for the first time. Finally, 38 years after she gave up on her Olympic dream, Zeng qualified for Paris 2024 at a pre-Olympic qualifying tournament in Lima, Peru, in May this year. “Calm, calm,” Zeng, who says mental fortitude is her biggest asset in table tennis, repeated to herself.

But with the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics just days away, the crowds have thinned to a trickle. “It’s a catastrophe,” said Mr. Pierret, surveying his near-empty terrace. Before him, thousands of brightly colored bleacher seats lined the quays of the Seine, which are now cordoned off. The river flowed by quietly — devoid of traffic — a scene reminiscent of Covid lockdowns. “The Olympics were supposed to be great for business,” Mr. Pierret said.

The pandemic accelerated the rise of telehealth, which these DTC companies are a part of both culturally and legally. Hims & Hers Health has a market cap of over $4 billion. Those at the forefront of the DTC health revolution have American guys right where they want them: insecure, on edge, and ready to open their wallets. Plenty of doctors have sounded the alarm about DTC telehealth companies, and some firms have gotten into legal trouble, too. For all the issues with DTC companies, it's fair to note that traditional healthcare settings are far from perfect.

Vance, the newly nominated vice-presidential candidate, may represent the new generation of the MAGA movement. But, as became clear Wednesday night when Usha Vance stepped gingerly into the spotlight to introduce her husband at the Republican convention, his wife represents change of a different kind. It’s because she does not hew to the very specific mold of femininity that has become the norm in the world of Trump. It calls to mind a cross between a Miss America — or Miss Universe — pageant contestant and a Fox newscaster. It is the equivalent of the Palm Beach billionaire take on the trad wife (even if these wives also have work).

Upon inspection of his trousers, officers discovered six sealed bags containing a variety of exotic snakes, including milk snakes, western hognose snakes, corn snakes, Texas rat snakes and bullsnakes. An accompanying video showed two border agents holding up large transparent bags filled with the multi-colored live reptiles, often sought out as exotic pets. While none of the serpents were venomous, at least four of the species are considered alien to China, which could constitute a violation of Chinese biosafety law. The customs authority said it would hold the man legally responsible in accordance with the law without specifying an exact punishment.

Researchers in South Korea say they’ve developed a new way to make lab-grown meat taste like the real deal. It may look like a transparent, bubble gum pink-colored disc, but scientists hope it could revolutionize the meat on people’s plates. Because the cultured meat is not yet edible, the researchers used an electronic nose, to test the aromas of the cultured meat, and see how they compare to conventional meat. Ron DeSantis banned the sale of lab-grown meat in the state in what he said was an effort to protect farmers and ranchers.
