However, as a financial planner, I always recommend being deliberate when it comes to your annual bonus. AdvertisementHere are four things you should avoid buying with your hard-earned bonus money — and some advice on what you should do with it instead. These costs can add up and crunch your budget long after the bonus money is spent. But technology changes and upgrades so rapidly that pouring bonus money into flashy new gadgets often means buyer's remorse sets in fast. But make sure you're using it wisely so that short-term excitement doesn't result in long-term financial regret.

Two boomers who are moving to Florida for retirement say the state meets their retirement goals. The Illinois to Florida move in particular was one of the largest US migration patterns between 2021 and 2022. Daniel Mehalek, 61Daniel Mehalek, 61, lived in the Chicago area his whole life. Compared to Chicago, he's paying more on flood, homeowner's, and car insurance in Florida, though it's offset by the over $15,000 in Illinois state taxes he won't have to pay when he relocates. "Insurance is a challenge right now, but I still feel like that's a better situation overall than being in Illinois and paying the property and state taxes," Ron said.

The price of durable goods is deflating, though many Americans may not feel the impact. AdvertisementEven though inflation is still higher than ideal, many things are actually getting cheaper. The prices of durable goods, meaning long-lasting items such as used cars or appliances, have fallen year-over-year for each of the last five months. That decreased demand has helped push down goods prices. AdvertisementTo be sure, most items Americans are purchasing on the daily are still inflating.

They said rising costs kept the board from expanding amenities residents wanted, such as a shared composting system. jhorrocks/Getty ImagesRising price for peace of mindIn the constellation of household costs, insurance is often one of the lesser-noticed line items. But recently the rising cost of repairs and the frequency of damaging weather events have made the deal go sour. Rising insurance costs could inflict more pain on another bruised area of the economy: housing affordability. For this reason, insurance companies could decline to cover them or require costly upgrades before agreeing to a policy.

[1/2] Artificial Intelligence words are seen in this illustration taken March 31, 2023. Companies are increasingly using AI to make decisions including about pricing, which could lead to discriminatory outcomes, experts warned at the conference. “We should not underestimate how powerful these models are now and how rapidly they are going to get more powerful,” he said. Developing ever-more powerful AI will also risk eliminating jobs to a point where it may be impossible for humans to simply learn new skills and enter other industries. “Once that happens, I fear that it's not going to be so easy to go back to AI being a tool and AI as something that empowers people.

Wefox, the $4.5 billion German insurance technology group, has raised $55 million of fresh funding from Deutsche Bank and UniCredit , two anonymous sources familiar with the deal told CNBC. The deal was structured as a convertible debt agreement, meaning that the debt will be converted into equity when Wefox next raises cash, the sources told CNBC. The fresh funding follows on from a $55 million debt round Wefox raised from JPMorgan and Barclays and a $55 million internal fundraise earlier this year. As Wefox didn't raise equity, its valuation remains unchanged at $4.5 billion. Wefox is also pushing into a new model of selling insurance called "affinity" distribution.

If bosses want workers in the office more often, they'll need to start paying up to cover commuting costs, employees say. Workers who currently split their time between home and the office say the No. 1 work perk that would get them to return in-person more often is their company covering commuting costs (38%). Meanwhile, roughly 1 in 4 workers also say an office dress code is hampering their return. It's undoubtedly "wildly more expensive" to work from the office today than it was pre-pandemic overall, says Frank Weishaupt, CEO of Owl Labs.

After the Supreme Court dashed any hopes of loan forgiveness, more Americans started making loan payments before the official repayment period, as well as interest, kicked in. “It’s just all the supplemental spending, a lot of that will disappear so that we can make room for the [student loan] payments,” he said.
