The Pennsylvania House is poised to impeach Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner , as Republican legislators push to remove the twice-elected prosecutor whose progressive policies they blame for fueling record levels of violent crime in the city. The Republican-led House, using a simple majority, could impeach Mr. Krasner, a Democrat, as early as Wednesday morning. If it does, the next step would be a trial in the GOP-led state Senate. Conviction and removal from office would require a two-thirds majority. It is unclear when a trial might be held.

Virginia State Police investigated the crime scene on Monday at the University of Virginia, where classes were canceled for the day. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—A University of Virginia student suspected of fatally shooting three football players and injuring two others on campus was in custody on Monday after a nearly 13-hour manhunt, officials said. In Arizona Senate, Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly is ahead of Republican Blake Masters by 115,000 votes with 80% in. On Dobbs, the national exit poll showed 27% of voters picking abortion as their No. And remember that our final NBC News poll found Trump as one of the most unpopular political figures we measured, especially compared with President Biden. In each state, those Democratic secretaries of state nominees were running against Republicans who cast doubt on the 2020 election result. Two of those five feature Democrat vs. Democrat contests, thanks to the state’s Top 2 primary, so those will stay in the Democratic column.
REUTERS/Mary F. CalvertPHOENIX, Ariz./BIRMINGHAM, Mich., Nov 8 (Reuters) - Senate incumbents including Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and senior Republican John Thune won re-election in Tuesday's U.S. midterm elections, on a day Republicans were expected to wrest control of Congress away from President Joe Biden's Democrats. Thirty-five Senate seats and all 435 House of Representatives seats are on the ballot. The final outcome, particularly control of the 50-50 Senate, is unlikely to be known any time soon. Democrats currently control that chamber through Vice President Kamala Harris' tie-breaking vote. The Georgia race could end up in a Dec. 6 runoff to determine which party holds the Senate.
DeSantis, a possible contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, turned away Democratic Representative Charlie Crist, Edison Research projected. Seven Republicans also won U.S. Senate seats, according to Edison, though none was unexpected. Thirty-five Senate seats and all 435 House of Representatives seats are on the ballot. Republicans are widely favored to pick up the five seats they need to control the House, but control of the Senate could come down to tight races in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia and Arizona. In Maricopa County, Arizona - a key battleground - the Republican Senate nominee, Blake Masters, and the national party filed an emergency lawsuit seeking to extend voting hours after some tabulation machines malfunctioned.
The gamble appears to have worked: All eight Democratic candidates who benefited from the strategy were projected to win their races as of Wednesday morning. Democrats also defended two competitive House of Representatives seats in New Hampshire and picked up one in Michigan, as their candidates held wide leads over Republican election deniers. And Democratic gubernatorial candidates in four states -- Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland and Illinois -- easily dispatched Republican candidates after running ads in the Republican primaries earlier this year. Democratic groups spent at least $51.5 million in Republican primaries this year, according to a Reuters tally. The DGA also ran ads amplifying the conservative credentials of Republican election deniers in Maryland and Michigan who won their primaries but lost the general election.

URBANA, Md.—Three conservative school board candidates have been knocking on doors and going to parades in Frederick County, Md., in the run-up to the midterms, campaigning with a message that they will curb what they say is the injection of misguided ideas about gender, sexuality and race in classroom instruction in the politically purple region. The group, calling itself Education Not Indoctrination and backed by a political-action committee pumping money into similar efforts around the U.S., will square off in Tuesday’s election against a four-candidate slate supported by teachers unions, in a contest that both sides say carries high stakes for the school district’s more than 45,000 students.

REUTERS/Mary F. CalvertWASHINGTON, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Six Democratic U.S senators urged the Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday to bar airlines from further shrinking the size and leg room of airplane seats. Last month, a U.S. appeals court heard arguments from a flyer advocacy group urging it to order the FAA to set minimum seat dimensions on passenger airplanes. There are no current minimum seat dimensions. Current rules say airlines must be able to evacuate passengers within 90 seconds but do not set seat size requirements. In July 2018 the FAA said it would not regulate seat size.
For decades, Halloween meant a parade day in the Lower Merion School District near Philadelphia. Elementary-school students, temporarily transformed into unicorns, tigers, jockeys, witches, princesses and much else, would march around outside, as parents waved, cheered and snapped pictures. But the Covid-19 pandemic brought a two-year halt to the events, and this year officials in the affluent district have again shelved the parades at the six elementary schools, citing concerns about inclusivity and student safety.
Republicans in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives filed articles of impeachment Wednesday against Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner , saying the twice-elected prosecutor should be removed from office because his progressive policies have fueled record levels of violent crime in the country’s sixth-most populous city. Mr. Krasner, one of several so-called “progressive prosecutors” who have taken office in recent years, decried the filing in a series of Twitter posts. The move is “devastating to democracy, and it shows how far toward fascism the Republican party is creeping. These Republicans divest from communities and then grandstand about crime for political gain,” he said in a tweet.
